Took a band course. Initially you will get to play with other people and the teachers will assess your proficiency and place you with others with similar skill level. If you decide to move forward, you will start 10 band sessions, 1 hr per week. In these sessions you get to decide with your new band mates what to play, and with the guidance of the teacher assigned to the band, you get also guidance on the technical aspects of playing in a band. All in all I enjoyed my time thoroughly while I took the course. The instructor was very knowledgeable and willing to help everybody even though we all played different instruments. All while having fun and without feeling too much pressure. By the end of the sessions, I felt I had become a much better guitar player than when I started. read more

Specialties

The Toronto Guitar School specializes in guitar lessons in all styles for beginner to advanced learners of all ages. We also organize Rock Bands and Ensembles for our students to perform in. In addition to guitar, we teach bass, piano, keyboard, drums, vocals, ukulele, woodwinds, brass and strings. Recording Arts, Theory and Songwriting are also taught at the school.

History

Established in 2014.

Toronto Guitar School started in 2014 as an offshoot of the parent company Mint Music which was established in 1998 by Glen Alan. Mint Music offers a full range of music and recording services. When the guitar program started becoming increasingly popular, Glen decided to put his focus there and continues to do so.

Meet the Business Owner: Glen A.

Glen Alan, a graduate of the Humber College Music Program (1996) was first introduced to recording and engineering in 1998 when he studied recording arts. With his musical background Glen learned quickly and soon was asked to engineer, produce and arrange the songs of other artists and bands he worked with. His keyboard, vocal and musical experience proved to be invaluable and over time his studio and recording clientele began to grow. Glen has collaborated with many accomplished musicians, songwriters, producers and arrangers including Taylor Ambrahamse, Dylan Bell, Chris Birkett, Tim Bovaconti, Bill Colgate, Michael Cooper, Paul Delong, John Dickie, Marc Dubois, Wendell Ferguson, Don Francks, Robert Graham, Steve Hunter, Elise Legrow, Leh-Lo, Charles James, Sterling Jarvis, Natalie MacMaster, Tony Nesbitt-Larking, Jackie Richardson, Karrnnel Sawitsky, Lenny Soloman, Julian Taylor and Suba Sankaran.

Sure they're nice but they're terrible at fixing guitars. They were able to give my Ibanez a…read morestandard setup and replace one of the pickups no problem but when I brought my bass in, they did basically nothing to fix it. I asked them to see if they could fix the buzzing that was happening every time I played it and fix both of the knobs which would just spin around and do nothing. When I got it back the buzz was almost worse and one of the knobs completely just screwed off (wasn't doing that before) would not recommend this place if you're wanting more than just a set up. Waste of $120.
