Ms. Blanca and Ms. Maria are loving, engaging, and truly gifted at creating memorable experiences. You can feel how much they care about the kids and it shows in everything they do. We absolutely love all the seasonal art projects and celebrations at Yak Academy. From trick-or-treating and the school Thanksgiving meal to the magical Polar Express Christmas day (that my daughter in 3rd grade still wishes she could skip school to attend), everything is done with so much care and creativity. The silly St. Patrick's Day fun, the Easter egg hunts, the Spring concert, and the beautiful graduation are all memories our family will cherish forever. My son learned to speak and understand so much Mandarin during his time there. This helped him to communicate with grandparents. It was really cute when he sang Chinese songs and even recited some poetry from the Tang Dynasty, which was impressive. For the parents who care a lot about math, my son was at least 2 years ahead of the LAUSD curriculum when he left MTA. He was able to do 3 digit addition, very very basic 4 digit addition and basic subtraction. When it came to meals, we were satisfied with the food. Jenny Laoshi did a great job getting my son to eat vegetables and fruits. This was no easy feat for our son as I struggle to get him to eat more veggies and try different fruits. We only wish they served more Chinese meals but we heard that some of the kids were not willing to eat Chinese food as much as American food. In terms of value, I don't think you'll find anything else that will beat MTA. We were pleasantly surprised by the price point, especially for the quality of education, care and food (2 meals and 2 snacks provided every day). The hours were also fantastic - 8am-6pm. Now with all that being said, no school is perfect. There's always room for improvement. I think one of them is better school-parent and teacher-parent communications. I think as long as parents are not shy about asking questions, there should be no issue. I was also hoping there would be more cultural education, like discussing Mid-Autumn Festival traditions and reading relevant stories.

I am glad my child no longer attends this daycare. Is your child crying because they miss their parents and don't want to be in the care of strangers? Well, it's the child's fault is what the owner will tell you. In reality, they do not have the patience or skill to comfort a child who has been separated from their parents.The owner will fabricate lies and excuses to explain her poor communication and will not take responsibility for anything. This place makes NiHao Chinese in Redondo Beach seem like a five star daycare (Nihao is acceptable, but also has it's shortcomings). There are plenty of other daycares in the area that will care for your child with the compassion and understanding that they deserve. My child is thriving at their current daycare, where the teachers truly understand and nurture children. If you're looking for quality care for your child, look elsewhere.

My daughter has been here for almost a year and she is absolutely thriving. She went from basically…read morenot speaking at all at 2 years old to a chatterbox at almost 3. Her growth has been so dramatic even her speech therapists are surprised and impressed. She did not have such big developmental leaps under the care of 2 other daycares or speech therapy alone, so I believe it was TSD that made the difference as she spends the majority of her weekly time here. For us, the excellent teacher: student ratio is the KEY. No other place maintains at least a 1:4 ratio, sometimes 1:3. Nowhere else have I seen the kids get along so well (though I'm sure the shared background helps too as most kids have part or full Asian heritage). The mandarin exposure aspect was important to us as well. My daughter has gotten much more comfortable with speaking mandarin, even if she doesn't know what she is saying sometimes. She has made so many friends here and has bonded with all the teachers and it shows. Nowhere else have I been so updated everyday through Brightwheel app with what she is doing, eating, and learning at school. I would not hesitate to send my son here as well when he is of age. Getting my daughter in here was a bit challenging in the beginning but rightfully so bc i think it speaks to the quality and desirability of the place!

He has so much fun and loves his teachers. It's also great being able to volunteer and see how he interacts with his little friends at school. Our other kiddo goes to the after school Chinese class at GLA. He's only there once a week but he's still learning so much. After every class, he asks to do his Chinese worksheets as soon as he gets home. GLA also offers a bunch of other classes and programs like Spanish and parent and me so there really is something for everyone. We love it there and highly recommend it to anyone!

The curriculum specializes in Japanese Language and Mathematics, but extends into Sports and Cultural events. My son's experience makes him natively fluent in the Japanese language, when he graduated he had a high score of over 95% on the Japanese Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanji Kentai.)
