We were so excited for the new campus in North Torrance (18749 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, CA 90504)! It's a great mandarin immersion daycare for families especially if they're interested in the mandarin immersion program at Chapman and live in the Gardena area like we do. It's a great head start in learning the language because he's learned a lot even having just been in school for 5 months with no prior knowledge of Mandarin. He can answer simple questions and hold very simple conversations with our relatives. He loves singing the songs and enjoys practicing the lessons in their learning app. He is the one teaching me words these days! I love seeing the crafts and projects they do and their English work as well. He is so happy and proud to show me his work and tell me what he's learned. Smaller class sizes which I love. Very clean school and a new gated and well-kept playground space for the kids. They really try to make holidays and celebrations fun for the kids; we especially loved the school-wide Lunar New Year Celebration where students from both campuses performed and celebrated the holiday! Teachers and admin are so supportive and kind to the students. You can tell they really care and want to help the kids grow and succeed as human beings. My child had a hard time adjusting to outside care at first, but I received daily updates on how he was doing and they really tried to work with him and meet him where he's at. It really eased my anxiety knowing he's in such good care. Shoutout to Sophie and Jojo laoshi for being so so understanding, encouraging, and optimistic about his progress and growth socially and emotionally! As a parent that values being informed, I really appreciate the app the school uses to provide daily updates about his day. It is also a way to easily communicate with staff and admin if we are running late, aren't coming in, or if there are school updates they need to share. The teacher also provides a weekly recap of what the students learned!! Good Teaching, But Communication and Character Could Improve Our kids learned a lot from this Mandarin program, and we appreciated the quality of the instruction. That said, a few important policies weren't shared before enrollment and only came up weeks into the program. We also experienced some communication challenges when we brought up concerns, and the process didn't feel collaborative. One major red flag was we're asked to remove a review or our children could not return. This put us in a tough spot to find immediate child care. We would have preferred the chance to work things out, but the way the situation was handled by administration made continuing difficult. The teaching is strong, but clearer upfront communication and a more open approach to feedback would really help future families. read more

Great environment and great leaning academic everyone is friendly and good to be in a welcoming place

My 3.5 year immediately started speaking more Chinese at home after starting here, and adjusted quickly to the immersion environment. Prior, the only exposure was me speaking Chinese to him maybe 50% of the time at home. Now I am able to speak more to him at home and feel like he's tracking! Apart from the language, my kid is learning cultural etiquette too! He's also been very engaged with school curriculum. The teachers prep every week and have to submit it to the admin for approval, and they really focus on weekly themes daily. They also are consistent with telling parents at the end of the week the new vocab so we can reinforce things. When I pick him up he asks if he can finish his work and sometimes tries to sneak another worksheet - this has never happened before at other schools as he usually books it the second I show up. The ratios are great as is their classroom management. The admin and teaching staff all seem to know the kids which is assuring. When they asked me to bring an emergency prep backpack, they immediately noticed that I had forgotten to include Zyrtec (without looking at any papers for him)! They are very responsive and when my kid was new or when we have a bad drop off they take extra photos to put me at ease. My main regret is not coming here sooner... and I'm sad there's no immersion elementary in TUSD. read more

My husband and I have two sons, ages 7 and 4, and have had a lot of experience with a variety of local Chinese schools. There are so many factors to consider when choosing what's best for your family, so we wanted to share how over the moon we have been with Sing In Chinese. Neither my husband nor I speak Mandarin, but we realized how valuable speaking it would be for a better world-view for our children and our family. When my children were little, I took a couple Chinese language classes at El Camino College so while I am in no way fluent, I can at least speak basic simple sentences now at home. Beyond that, their only Chinese language exposure comes from their respective schools. You know how they say when you meet the right person, you just *know* they're the one you're supposed to marry? Well, we just *knew* we made the right decision to send our son to Sing in Chinese the very first week of school. From his first day, he was SO happy to be there and made friends immediately. All the other parents in our son's class are constantly remarking on what a special bond these kids have with each other and their nurturing teachers. Without any direction from parents or adults, the children are often so excited to see each other every day that many of them greet each other with a hug, or group hug, and similarly bid farewells in a similar manner which speaks to not only the caliber of the families at the school, but also the quality of the teachers and environment. Beyond seeking a safe and compassionate environment, the main qualification we sought was Chinese language acquisition and boy, has Sing in Chinese delivered in a huge way! Their program is fully immersive in such a fun and loving way that within a span of only three months, our son was speaking complete and complex sentences in Chinese. This was such a huge win for us considering he was at another local Chinese school for a year and only ever responded to them in English and minimal Chinese. Sing in Chinese uses their own proprietary and creative curriculum which involves teaching Chinese through a large catalog of songs they specially created for their students. And wow does it work! From his first week of school to the present, our son is constantly singing songs to himself and to us that he's learned at school, from colors of the rainbow, to cleaning up, going to the beach, and countless others. Safety: The school has taken extra measures to include a code lock door on their classrooms and use an app to check your child in and out each day with a unique code that only your family has. I'm so glad we made the switch from the other local Chinese school to Sing in Chinese and I can truly say our child is thriving there! It isn't uncommon to hear my child as well as many of the others request to stay later because they love school and their friends so much. I'm so glad we made the decision to move to Sing in Chinese and I can't wait to see how both of my children's love of learning the Chinese language continues to develop over the years in not only their preschool, but also their after-school program! Looking for an immersion program with an excellent participatory and strong English pre-academic skills curriculum? Stop and look no further! As a former educator, District Administrator with background in supervising programs from infants through post high school, I can highly recommend this school. We are extremely sad my grandson is moving out of the area and leaving this excellent school during the holidays! Max started in February 2022, one of 7 students, with no ability to speak Mandarin but he was able to converse with his father within a few months with perfect articulation. Don't worry about the English pre academic skills as everything is incorporated within the curriculum along with the immersion aspect. Low student/teacher ratio along with daily hands-on and movement activities enables the young child to absorb concepts at their academic level through all their senses. This enables the brain to create strong pathways which develops stronger learning skills. Kudos to Carol & Lynn Lousi for creating & expanding the wonderful preschool program. My daughter enrolled in full day, 5 days a week, program started in September, 2022. She had surprised us with how quickly she learned to speak Mandarin to communicate to me, my wife, and her grandparents and the vocabulary she uses sometimes completely surprised us. The way the education program structured not only taught her the language but also singing, dancing, writing, and art as well as improved her social skill to play nice with others. Thanks to my daughter's teacher, Hsiao Lu Laoshi, for taking care of the kids, spending the time and effort to send a very detailed weekly reports to inform parents on what the kids had learned for each week. Also really appreciate her and Miss Lynn for a very throughout progress report and discussion during our first parents/teachers conference. Our daughter started this preschool a month ago, after having been at another preschool for five months. The level of care and effort that Teacher Lynn, Summer and Lenaye demonstrate is so astronomically different, we were astounded. Weekly plans, cute activities, healthy snacks, simple cooking activities, growing plants, a Halloween trick or treat / recital / party event, learning songs... the teachers inspire me with their creativity and effort. (The last Montessori we went to did not share anything during the whole time she was there, asked us to pay for lessons during the week, and during the one awkward parent teacher conference, parents asked what the curriculum or day was like, and found out that teachers probably gave the kids 10 mins of dedicated time each week.) Within the first week at Sing in Chinese, our daughter was grumbling when we picked her up. We love this school so much, and really appreciate the owner and the staff. Now, down to ONE star because SICP is STILL denying facts I stated in my first review [many Brightwheel messages and emails sent prior to this public review] about that day, 1/25/23, when they indeed used scissors with my 3yr old (2/15/23: Images I uploaded of Mindy Chen holding a scissors in my 3yr olds hand were removed at request by SICP due to "privacy concerns"). Both Mindy Chen & XiaoXiao Li were present at AM drop-off and XiaoXiao present at 2:45-3:00pm pickup as usual. Their continued manipulation, gaslighting, dishonesty, and mistreatment is absolutely sickening. We're very familiar with CA educational laws and have experienced many hardships with how other federally funded public schools have ignorantly mistreated families like us, but for a paid private *preschool* to continue in this poor unprofessional manner with our youngest daughter is absolutely disgraceful, unacceptable, and shouldn't be in operation anymore. They should have their CA license revoked. read more

Sing In Chinese has been a gem for our daughter. She's spent the better part of her age 3-4 years at this school M-F and she still wants to stay longer after it's time to go home. The teachers are all very caring and do an excellent job of keeping the kids engaged and interested in their daily activities. It's a mix of indoor and outdoor play/learning with split language immersion (Mandarin/English) that honestly just works! Thanks to them, our daughter's reading comprehension and math skills have exploded.
