This was a cool stop and a nice break from the traffic on our road trip. I wouldn't mind swinging by when in the area again. We walked in knowing we were taking it to go because we had our dogs with us. I did see a separate dining room to the right though. The initial entrance has more of a deli setup. We went to the register and read the menu that is taped to the display case. The gentleman at the counter was polite and helpful. He let us know about their specials and the flexibility of the menu. While waiting a very brief amount of time, I noticed they sell their own tortillas and chips, as well as produce and snacks. I just liked the feel of the place. They aren't cash only, but there is a fee for using a card. I got a taco plate for $5.99. It was decent, but not my favorite. The pastor was very fatty and didn't taste much like pastor, it was lacking in flavor. The asada was much better in cook, cut, texture and flavor. The corn tortillas were very good. The rice was above average and the beans were ok. Their agua fresca is in jugs, but is made fresh each day. I got the Jamaica and it was pretty good. They make theirs pretty strong. The impression from my meal was they had potential, but were more in the 3 star category. Then I tried my husband's asada quesadilla and I changed my mind. It was so much better than my asada taco. The combination of the flour tortilla, cheese and additional seasoning was absolutely delicious. It was pretty thick and filling, this is a repeat order for sure. I'm not sure how much it was. We paid cash and weren't given a receipt. Quesadillas ranged $5-7 on the menu though. Next time we come through, I hope we don't have our dogs with us, because I would like to dine in. When the gentleman had described the two specials that day, they sounded really good but all I could think was that enchiladas are too challenging to eat in the car. I look forward to getting the full experience the next time we return.

This is one of those places you want to love but it's not quite firing on all cylinders. I'll call this a 3.5-star review, but I'll round up to 4 because it's better than just A-OK. Just. From the outside, it looks like a hole in the wall. Good! Good start. When you walk in, the front room also feels small... but wait, what's this? To the right, the place opens up into a much larger room, with many tables and plenty of nice touches. Interesting! Not what I was expecting. But not bad either. Bigger room almost feels more like an Italian restaurant than Mexican. :) Everyone was super nice and service was great. No complaints there. Chips are clearly made in house - beefy and thick, fresh-fried tortillas. But they're cut a wee bit small - I'd prefer the triangles be a bit bigger. The salsa is awesome - really, really good. My only disappointment lay in the actual street tacos. They weren't bad, but I was expecting greatness based on the feel of everything. And they turned out to be decent, not great. Barbacoa needed more moisture. Chicken was decent - also needed a little something more. While much of this place felt authentic, the street tacos weren't quite there. The rice and beans were also... forgettable. Boring. Store-bought taste. Good: Atmosphere People and service Chips and salsa - I gorged on this and found myself considering buying their salsa in bulk Needs a *leetle* help: Street tacos (at least barbacoa and chicken) Forgettable: Rice and beans I want to like this place more. It's a very likeable place. But it's kind of so-so, food-wise. A little hit or miss. I might stop in next time we're in town, but ... maybe not.

    Breakfast Burrito

Excellent breakfast burritos. Their tortillas are some of the best I've had!!! It's to go only but great pick up breakfast.

Very friendly and accommodating service. To-go only during COVID. In addition to menu items, they had housemade flour and corn tortillas, housemade gorditas, farm eggs, dried red chiles, horchata, coffee, etc. $24 for 4 breakfast meals and 3 drinks. Great value.

We were driving from Louisiana to San Antonio on a Sunday and stopped here for dinner ~ Wonderful service, great food and full of flavor!

We were daytripping in Corsicana and we arrived hungry. We'd stopped off at the nearby Visitors' Center and were hunting for parking when we saw the lot next to both the Visitors' Center and theTortilleria Matehula. Tortillerias make tortillas and often showcase their wares in burritos--good, filling comfort food. I was rather disappointed when we entered. There were two large display cases which should have been full of baked goods. Instead, there were just a few empenadas and conchas which didn't look like they'd been made on the premises. There was a partial menu board overhead and a menu taped to the display case. I speak Spanish which helped with the ordering. The menu did not offer full descriptions of all the items and my monolingual friend was unable to read much of the menu. I was familiar with the items and ordered potato and egg for myself and eggs and ham for my friend. We chose to eat in the restaurant. I was impressed with the restaurant side decor. It was much nicer than I expected out of a utilitarian tortilleria. I loved the dramatic red walls but was puzzled by the huge New York scenes. A server brought us a basket of freshly made tortilla chips and salsa which tasted like it had come straight from the garden. The chips were just what I like in a chip--thick and obviously housemade, not those puny chips which you usually find in Tex-Mex establishments. The salsa had a nice kick without overwhelming the tastebuds. Our orders came out. We had get our drinks, Cokes in the bottle, from the drinks case. The server offered us glasses with ice. The food was hearty and filling, just what we were looking for. The flour tortillas were smaller than I'm used to but delicious. The refried beans which accompanied our order tasted housemade. If/when we come back to Corsicana, we'll be stopping here again!

Found this gem passing through town on my way back to Austin! Their chips and salsa's are all made in house and phenomenal. My boyfriend ordered chicken enchiladas and an al pastor taco, I ordered a one chicken and one carne asada taco fully dressed with cilantro and onions. Everything was incredibly flavorful, I ate so quickly I forgot to take a picture! Their tortillas are also made in house and you can tell. I loved them so much I had to buy a bag of red corn to take home and enjoy! I highly suggest this restaurant to locals and passerby's alike!

Great breakfast taco and burritos! Seems like their tortillas are very popular too, everyone else that came in bought at least 2-3!

First time here, we came for their "$1 Taco Tuesdays" We…read moreordered tacos for the following meats: Asada 8/10 (Steak) Chorizo 10/10 (Mexican Sausage) Campechano 8/10 (Mixed Meats) Birria (Lamb) 10/10 Tripa (crunchy) 10/10 (Tripe) Chicharrón 8/10 (Pork Cracklings) Carnitas 10/10 (Pork) Pastor 10/10 (Pork) Cabeza 10/10 (Beef Head) Lengua 10/10 (Beef Tongue) Wife got the pepino(cucumber) fresh water, she said 10/10. We also got 1 churro each the taste was amazing, we got them plain with no filling, the only thing negative is the price, $4 per churro for the size we were thinking $2-$3 each. Overall everything is very tasty we got all of the salsas they were all good, the red one is super spicy lol, one thing definitely need to put more cilantro in the onion/cilantro mix, you got about 90% onions and 10% cilantro. You also got chiles toreados(sautéed Jalapeños) and grilled onions(delicious)! Service was excellent, the drive thru was wrapped around the building and a huge line inside, they manage to keep a smile on their faces, super courteous with everyone, recommended items on their menu, very knowledgeable of their job. For being that busy the lobby was clean and bathrooms were also really clean. The ambience was very pleasant, all customers were happy, eager to try out this new spot, definitely did not disappoint. I can honestly say this is the best authentic restaurant in Corsicana, (besides like food trucks) it is not Tex Mex, it is actually Mexican Food. I would highly recommend to anyone willing to try some amazing flavors and customer service. Keep up the good work!

Definitely a small gem! Everything was delicious! Do yourself a favor and try the quesabirtiaread more
