Hector's has the best top shelf margaritas around. Their food is constant (not great, not bad), as I have my favorite few items I order all the time. Their salsa has a nice garlic- heat finish but their chips can we stale at times (just tell them and they will bring you more). Wish the owners would visit MiCocina's in Dallas area and see how they do their nachos, create their sunset sauce, mamma's tacos and chicken cohongos. Would like to see more variations on the menu. Wow what a great experience!! Rosalia was our waitress! She was very efficient. The chips are really crunchy & I loved the hot sauce. My family and I really enjoyed this place! While we didn't dine in we loved that they offered delivery through yelp. The fajitas were super tender and great tortillas, my enchiladas were fantastic, the chicken wasn't dry and very well seasoned and the sour cream sauce wasn't broken. Let's talk food!!! Who has ever had fajitas not on a hot plate the meat looked like it was boiled and probably not fresh cause some of it was cold but the peppers and onions tasted freshly cooked. I want char on my fajitas I want flavor, the beans and rice were bland and no real flavor besides the salt and pepper I added. The best dish here was the chips and salsa. I do wish I would've tasted that bacon wrapped churro. The place is clean and has a family atmosphere. Service was really not up to par every time I seen our waitress she was on her knees home and my drink was empty and I asked for sweet tea I got unsweetened tea but I get it a bad day. There aren't many places in Mabank/ Gun Barrel to eat but I had been told this is the spot for Mexican food. No lie when I saw the whole crowd was 98% elderly Caucasian people I became very worried! And I should've trusted my gut. The salsa tasted like tomato water. No seasoning, garlic or even cilantro. Chips were served cold and kind of stale. I ordered the burrito plate it was sad. Very bland chicken. I asked for green salsa and my server never returned. We had to find a different server to get her so we could pay. By the time she came to bring my ticket, whole family had used the restroom, gotten to go drinks from the other server and sat in the car for almost 10 minutes. And she smelled like cigarettes. No apology, discount, or anything. My second trip, I ordered the chimichanga with fajita beef because I was told the beef is the restaurant's star item. The queso didn't have much flavor (plain velveeta tastes better) but I added guac and it helped tremendously. The charro beans were good. But the rice??? Tasted like a dirty, greasy flattop. Thought we'd give Hector's a try based on several glowing recommendations. We were seated in the back next to the bar beside (unfortunately) a guy and his girlfriend who were both wayyy over served. They ended up fighting and spewing f*bombs. She finally left. He stayed. Maybe this environment clouded our taste but the food (quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos) were average tex-mex at best. I really wish I could award half stars, because it\s a little better than a three, but not quite a four. It's one of the better places to eat when you are at Cedar Creek Lake. The decor is quite dated and a bit faded, but is well kept and clean. Service was generally on point and pleasant. Our server earned a good tip. I got the chicken flautas which came out molten, but still quite juicy, however the flavor was a little bland. The rice was a little on the dry side, but the charro beans were excellent. Others at our table got enchiladas and fajitas. We found it a bit unusual that the fajitas did not come with pico and shredded cheese, though it did come with guacamole, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos. The meat was tasty. The enchiladas are also very good. We've been there a few times, and I can say that the food quality is consistent. It was my dad's favorite place down there. Everyone should try the charro beans! I rounded up because Hectors was more than a 3.5 but maybe not quite a 4?? Nothing fancy here, our group liked the food and we had a handful of different diets (vegan, gluten free, keto, omnivore). Refried beans did show up with cheese on them but I neglected to specify and they didn't ask to make sure. Margaritas were pretty stiff so bonus points there. We did notice a lot of side-eye from numerous other diners at the black woman in our group but I'm not counting that against the restaurant (just against the patrons that stopped eating just to stare...‍). So it was with a little trepidation that hubby and I came to hectors today. We had read two reviews from last week that said that the service was terrible. But on the menu was my much sought after huevos rancheros which if some of you read my review from Ochoas last week I was not able to find well. I am happy to report that not only was the service excellent today but the sought after egg dish were not only on the menu but cooked as the way I like them not the way that the cook thought it should be. Hubby liked the turkey and dressing that they served today with a generous helping of cranberry Jelly. The pinto beans were good too, hubby like them. I ate some but they had meat in them so I didn't eat them all. They are open for Thanksgiving by the way. New to the area and trying each restaurant two times before we leave a review. Hectors is closest to our home and we wanted to like it. And we do. The building is drab. Low ceilings and dark interior feels a bit closed. The furniture has seen better days. There are three unique areas: the front section, a section in front of an semi-impressive bar, and a back section where the fun has to happen. Much bigger on the inside than would appear. Apparently the restaurant is owned by some brothers who each manage a section of the restaurant. My wife absolutely loves their carne asada. At least she did the first time. The second time around was not as gratifying but still flavorful. The chicken fajitas were a touch dry but did not stop me from eating them all. The beef were better but cut too thin for my liking. The enchiladas and tamales were as you would expect. And i love my Mexican Cokes. We ordered for pick up last time and had great customer service and the food was individually wrapped in foil. Nice touch. We are happy with our local Tex-Mex joint. read more

The appetizers we ordered were the queso (had taco meat within) which was good and the taco dip which was basically a deconstructed nachos. The taco dip was the table favorite and recommended.
