Tuscanos Bistro is a cute little gem tucked away in downtown Shelby. The host seated us as soon as we walked in and our waitress came over immediately to get our drinks. I was going to order one thing but after asking the waitress what her suggestion was I ordered the Chicken Philly with fries. My husband went with meat tortellini and it came with garlic bread and a side salad. My husband loves Tiramisu so we ordered that for dessert and split it. Everything was great and it was a great experience. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

The waitress was very nice and attentive I will say the sweet tea was good but the rest of the meal was awful .Grape leaves were out of a can and there were only 4 and it was twice as much as actually as just buying a can .. my salad was literally nothing but lettuce. I had chicken put on it and chicken was not seasoned well at all husband had chicken parm and it was literally cut up chicken ( same as on my salad) on over cooked noodles and a runny sauce covered in cheese , he took one bite and couldn't eat it . Needless to say we were really disappointed and don't think we will be back.the decor also was a bit worn out looking but I will give credit the bathroom was spotless which is usually a good indication of how everywhere in the restaurant is kept but it could use a little update to the decor. Pros - The food was good and the service was okay. Cons - This is the noisiest restaurant I have ever been in. We could barely hear what our friends were saying who were sitting on the other side of the table. The bill was not itemized and was almost unreadable. This is by far the worst Italian food I have ever had! Ordered the lasagna. It came with a green salad and garlic bread. The sauce had no flavor profile, no seasons and was runny. The noodles were clumped together and dry. The salad was not fresh, and the tomato slices were close to being inedible. The blue cheese dressing had been thinned out and had zero taste. The garlic bread was a soggy piece of barely toasted bread. I would never eat here again or recommend it. read more

I am visiting the area and need to be upfront. I am sorta a pizza snob. I found this restaurant online. Reading the positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I am not impressed. I'm not saying it is bad. Just not my taste or up to my standards. The salad was ok. I didn't feel there was anything special about the house dressing (as I read in a few reviews). The disappointment came with the Margarita Pizza. A Margarita Pizza is supposed to be light and super fresh (next to a regular pizza). Fresh dough, a dash of fresh tomato sauce (not canned), fresh olive oil as a base, topped with fresh cut mozzarella slices (6-8 slices laid out with spacing), fresh cut tomato slices (4-6 large slices), and finalized with full basil leaves. What I received was quite different. When I opened the box, I was shocked to see a pizza filled edge to edge and piled high with melted mozzarella, and small chopped basil bits. That was it. Basically, it was a mozzarella pizza. Furthermore, it was so heavy. Not what I was looking for. I get that each place has its own interpretation of menu items, but this one is way off. The restaurant should change the name of their margarita pizza to a mozzarella pie. read more

What a wonderful find! We spent the day tubing the river and were beat. Traffic, amazingly, was light when we hit Shelby so we explored in search of a restaurant v. fast food. Toscanos was the result. And are we happy. An established Italian/Greek restaurant on the town square. Nothing fancy, but clean and plenty of room for tables. Most tables were filled, a good sign to us. I never got the name of our waitress, but she was totally on the ball. She answered our menu questions and kept her eye on us. We took on the driving risk with each of us having a glass of red wine. Nice portion. Wife ordered Greek Meatballs ($11). She LOVES meatball sandwiches, so ordering meatballs was no surprise to me. Out came a super hot platter of about 8 golf ball-sized meatballs swimming in an excellent red meat sauce and smothered with melted cheese. A side salad was included and she asked if it could be a Greek salad and it was as beautiful as it was delicious. Mixed greens topped with a lot of finely diced feta cheese along with olives, onion, tomato. FANTASTIC. I had the gyro sandwich ($10) and it was stuffed full of lamb meat. And...I received the same wonderful Greek salad as my wife did. We both smiled our way through cleaning our plates and bowls of anything edible and told the waitress how pleased we were. She ended up with a 100% tip. Am certain that Toscanos is a busy place for the city employees during weekday lunches, and judging with how crowded it was the night we rolled in, Toscanos enjoys patronage throughout the week. Monday is burger night! You can't get a burger here any other day. Six dollars for a burger on Monday! If they did burgers other days they could easily charge twice as much. Yes, even one "side" included for just six dollars! I hope I'm not ruining the special, because it is special! Who goes out Monday night, right? Keep the special, add burgers to the menu for the rest of the week! It is very tasty, highly recommended! I have eaten other foods here. The Greek and Italian food is also delicious. We have been here a few times now. My Mom just loves Italian food. I'm don't so much. The first thing I want to mention is the salads are great especially with their Greek dressing. They are made very nice. A few things I have to note is they need to drain their Speghetti better, We had quite a bit of water to drain off our plates. The next issue was I love eggplant. Well I was VERY disappointed, besides being super thin slices they came out burned. You get 3 pieces on top of Speghetti. I've never seen eggplant Parm come out this way. On top of the Speghetti with no sauce, and sitting on top of the cheese. I would never get the eggplant again. The next issue is sauce, the pasta was just too dry without asking for more sauce, had to drain the plate before adding the sauce. One more thing I have to add is for being a Italian restaurant they do not have angel hair pasta. If I have to have to have Speghetti at least be angel hair. The Speghetti plate was good had good amount of items they put in it. Now I will mention the chicken parm. It was odd pieces of chicken not a piece placed under the sauce and cheese kinda laying on top of the Speghetti like my eggplant. Needless to say my Mom said she would never get that again either. Over all we do like coming here just won't venture far from what we had the first couple of times going. I ended up just eating my salad and the burnt eggplant but the pasta I just didn't like. Too thick for me. Hopefully it will be better next time we go. read more

Had to ask another server for our drinks (never seen the original server again). Finally ordered and everything came out cold or barely like warm. Then the guy that was our server was mad at us because they were sending out cold food and we needed refills. Actually never spoke another word to us. When we asked for refills or anything. We don't mind paying for food but you can't expect to send out food that you wouldn't eat and think I'm going to eat it. Got a bunch of kids working who wants to stand at hostess stand and play on their phones in front of management. So sad!!! read more

I was disappointed that most of the gluten free options on their menu are not available. I've had a grilled chicken sub and spaghetti & meatballs... gluten free and no complaints. We started with crisp, fresh garden salads with excellent blue cheese dressing, and an order of cheesy bread with marinara sauce, to die for! I had the spaghetti with meat sauce, which came piping hot along with an order of garlic bread. It was very flavorful, and the pasta is perfectly cooked. My husband had the chicken Alfredo, which I had to sample in order to accurately rate and it was some of the best I've ever had. Our friends had spaghetti which she pronounced delicious and he had shrimp scampi, which is not on the menu, but you can ask for it, not morsel was left. The four of us agreed. It was some of the best Italian food you're going to find anywhere. Service was excellent, polite, but not intrusive, yet we never had to ask for anything. Happened to be in Shelby today at dinner time and called my order in based on pictures I'd seen online. Because of the state mandated discontinuance of dine-in eating, they only had call in available, but when we are back to normal I can see myself making a special trip just to eat there! As it is, they allow you to call in and they'll deliver your order to you curbside. You don't even have to leave the car! My order was super inexpensive too, especially considering the amount of food they give you! I got the delicious pasta with a creamy sauce and tender chicken, studded with sun dried tomatoes. Perfectly seasoned and so good! This came with a garden salad and two pieces of garlic bread. Honestly, I brought most home, and my son had the rest for his dinner, that's how much food they gave us! It was definitely more laid back and casual than I expected but I didn't allow my judgment to run free before or presentation of food. The menu has many options from vegan to vegetarian and everything was asked for a fair price. Our server was very persistent about checking in with us on our drinks and food arrival. Aesthetics are everything. Super cute restaurant that's perfect for the location. Went for lunch for my brother's birthday and was immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was super sweet and came very frequently to make sure we were ok and didn't need anything. Had refills available for our drinks before we even needed to ask. We all chose the lunch special of lasagna and create your own pizza up to 3 toppings. They all came with salads, and we got a side of cheese bread. Forgot to take pics bc it was that good. The food was fresh and extra hot when it came out. the cheese bread was mad cheesy and the pizza was made perfectly. There is enough space/seating for large groups. We were so disappointed in this place. I was thrown off immediately upon entering when a staff member shoved a handful of mints into the hand of a person using a walker- making it difficult for them to exit the restaurant and compromising their safety as they attempted to maneuver one-handed. The food took it down even farther; The salad lettuce was going bad, the marinara and spaghetti sauce were so bad we could not eat it. Too seasoned possibly and I don't even know what else was going on with it but it wasn't good. The garlic bread was brought out without butter or garlic on it or anything! Plain, dry bread! Who does that? The meatballs did not taste good, I bit into what I can only assume was a piece of bone and I got sick that night with what I believe was food poisoning. We tried multiple dishes and the only thing that was any good was the mozzarella sticks. We won't be back. read more

Was actually planning to go to Kozi's Italian Kitchen but they were closed so I went here for the first time. Our server was absolutely wonderful! She was friendly and genuinely kind. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip which was yummy but not enough pita was served with it. They're sangria was freaking amazing and just tasted like juice- which I'm totally okay with. I ordered the grilled chicken Parmesan, the portion was huge. I do wish they offered a breaded chicken option but that grilled chicken was pretty good. The tiramisu took the cake....see what I did there?! It was creamy and soft. My only critique was I didn't really taste and expresso, so a little more of that would have made it perfect.
