Who works out there: I've been working out with Ryan Hunt at Total Results Training for over 5 years. I have developed a love of fitness and working out thanks to Total Results Training. I continue to make friends and bond with a community of like-minded people. We are not "crazy work out people". The people I work out with are young people, older people (I am one of them--I am reluctant to admit) and some of us are dads (like me) and moms. It truly feels like a family to me...from Ryan, to my work out peers, to the other trainers. What is the work out like: No matter which group session it is, Ryan is adjusting the workout to fit the needs of each person. He has an incredible sense of what to do and how to do it so it fits into an individual person's fitness level. Five years later and Ryan is still pulling out exercises I have never done before. He is *that* good. Did I mention that on top of it all, he's a nice guy? Yeah..that too. What is the studio like: Total Results Training is Ryan's passion. The training studio is his own (not a chain) so there is a personal experience that you get from going there and from the work out. It's clean, it's well-stocked and it's bright (except maybe during an early morning work out) Ryan is not churning out the work outs, he pays attention to each person and meets their needs at every level. The committment and professional experience that is shared is very different from what I've seen at larger chain-based facilities. I'm so happy to be a part of the Total Results community. It's fun. It can be hard (today kicked my butt!). But most of all, it's rewarding and I feel *&%$-ing GREAT. You should try it too. read more

I started training at Total Results about a year ago. I happened to be at the starbucks across the street when I saw a woman leave TRT who looked like she just got her ass served. And I thought, I'm game. I did my free week trial and knew that it was a perfect fit. What I love. It's down to earth, it's inclusive, it's personal and Ryan is AWESOME. His workouts are challenging and I swear, the hour goes super fast. The fact that the sessions only have a handful of people makes me feel accountable to show up. I'm not lost in the shuffle. I've met some great people and the conversations are always fun and interesting. When I turned 40 I made a deal with myself to make this decade the healthiest yet. I'm two marathons in and working out here makes me a stronger and healthier endurance runner. Very grateful I stumbled upon TRT. read more

The customer service off the bat was outstanding I brought in a Groupon that was outdated and we worked out a couple week deal and after that the experience has been just awesome. Looks like some bad reviews from a few yrs ago, but if those are true, it's a totally different place now. Feels like family there and I'm so happy and excited to go work out each time. Ryan the owner has been my TRT trainer in the small group sessions and you feel like you are one one one. He's so personable. Kind and tough on you and finds those little victories and motivates you with them. The mental results are the first thing to show up. You just feel so good about working out even as out of shape as I was when I came in and weight lose and definition came quickly behind it and honestly didn't feel like I was killing myself during the work outs. If I did an hr at the gym before I left dying and semi injured. These guys are super pros and the best kept fitness secret at the gym. Thats another thing about those bad reviews, I've learned over the past few months you don' t need to kill yourself to get those results. Those people sounded upset they didn't leave hating life. Maybe hey can explain their method better to people..For me my brain got in the right direction, I enjoyed working out and I didn't strain myself to the point of injury and loose weeks. I worked with Ryan and TRT for almost a year. I showed up to my first bootcamp session scared, real overweight, unbelievably out of shape (we are talking couldn't run one lap around the soccer field) and totally intimidated. But the lack of judgement, kindness and encouragement he and everyone at TRT showed me kept me going until I'd lost more than 50 lbs and felt athletic and strong and confident. Once, I was frustrated because others in class were faster and could do more than me. Ryan said, "you're working just as hard as everyone else is. You're not cheating because you're not as fast." That was so huge! The acknowledgement from someone that I was actually busting my butt allowed me to realize that it was true. I really WAS working hard and I was going to get better if I just kept trying! If I wouldn't have moved to the opposite end of the city I would still be there. TRT changed my life and allowed me to actually start living it. read more

My kids and I were in Chicago for just three days and trained with Ryan for two of those days!! He was great and encouraging. Really felt great especially after all the great food available in Chicago that can be consumed while on vacation. Made the guilt much less!! I can't say enough great things about Ryan. I had tried literally everything to take off the extra 10 lbs I gained in my early 30's. Bar Method, Power Yoga, Running, CrossFit, you name it. Ryan is a fabulous trainer. I go to small-group training with him. It is a bootcamp-like workout indoors with up to five people. Every day is different - Ryan changes it up all the time - but one thing is consistent and that is its intensity. Ryan is a very creative and practical trainer and he is super-supportive and reliable. After just two months, I have noticed a significant increase in my strength, flexibility, and stamina. You just have to try the boot camp sessions! The energy and power of the group is really more motivating than you can imagine. I lost weight and more importantly felt great. My energy went up and a few aches and pains that I've had for a long time just seemed to go away. Ryan Hunt is one of the best trainers and very motivating. Even with a group, he manages to find time for you as an individual and make sure you are getting exactly what you need. TRT is a great place to workout! I've been working out with Ryan for a little over 7 years. I saw him when I could during my college years when I was not disciplined with my eating. Ryan was never critical, but was always positive and encouraging. I now see him more regularly and have lost weight and feel much more fit. I do small group training and Ryan is good at tailoring workouts to each person's ability. He pushes you to work at your maximum potential without being too pushy. Every workout is different with a mix of cardio and strength training so they are not boring and repetitive. I would highly recommend Total Results Training. read more

TRT is amazing! They actually found a way to make working out fun. An hour would pass by so quickly, but the workout was fun AND it kicked your butt. Even after a week, I started seeing a difference in my body, and strength. Ryan is a great trainer, and the small group settings is intimate enough where he will still push you personally, and help you correct your form for any move. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a fun and effective workout with a great trainer. read more

I originally started out doing bootcamp with TRT, as part of a groupon. All of the trainers are superb and motivating. I found the whole experience great. It whipped me into shape right away! After the initial three months, I decided to stay on, and continued the bootcamp throughout the summer and fall. It was a great compliment to my marathon training! In addition to bootcamp, I did the tough mudder race in WI with the team--this is something I never in a million years would have done myself... but as part of a team, it was super fun! And I met some great people along the way! Once winter came, I started doing small group training with Ryan--he is wonderful to train with, and I've really enjoyed the small group setting. I saw there are some reviews of bad customer service with TRT--I have not had this experience. Ryan is now the owner of TRT, and he will always get back to you via email or phone and try to work with you to sort out any dilemmas. Whether you choose the bootcamp or the small group training, you will not be dissapointed! They are great! read more

When I started working out with Ryan, I was in the worst shape of my life. He was encouraging yet tough and helped motivate me. He made me excited to work out again. I drive from the suburbs spending up to an hour in traffic at times. He is just that good. I feel great after his workouts. read more

As a first time boot camper, I didn't know what to expect and was a little nervous. Though I used to do yoga and am a runner, I had a procedure done on my elbows last summer for tendinitis and had practically no upper body strength left when I started so my goal has been to work on strength without hurting myself. I explained this to all of them, Ryan, Brian and Kelly and they have all been great, giving me modifications when I need them and making sure I'm working hard but not over doing it. Bonus, I'm doing more sit-ups then ever before on top of other things, and I definitely feel and see the change, so does my fiance, he tells me everyday;-) I'm only sad my three month sign up is coming to an end. read more

Have been training with Ryan for almost a year & he's been great. I have worked with other trainers & always injured myself. Ryan listens, (occasionally accuses me of whining) and modifies exercises to meet my needs, age & physical stamina. He doesn't 'go easy' or let me get away with wimping out, just makes adjustments to benefit my workouts. I feel very confident in recommending him. read more

If i could give this boot camp negative stars I would. Me and two other girls bought the Groupon for the TRT boot camp. We arrived and the instructor, Brian told us to run laps around the soccer field. Okay-- warm up- I get it. then after this, he pulled out the ladder. We did the ladder drills for about 20 minutes. I don't even think a 2nd grader could think of any more ways to hop scotch through this ladder. It was clearly a time-waster and the entire time Brian looked like his dog had just died. No motivation, no pushing the boot-campers to do anything. He literally just sat there and occasionally told us a new way to hop through the ladder in his mono-toned voice. Not the most ideal person for a 6 and 7am bootcamp. The next few times I had gone was even worse. Most of it consisted of running back and down the field ( something I could have done at home around my neighborhood) we did a couple band exercises for about 30 seconds ( not enough to get me or the most out of shape person sore) He never was watching us to make sure we did it right or even once gave us a "C'mon you can do this!" kind of chant. It got even worse when the "sub" came in for the last time I attended. This guy could have slept on the ground on the field. He had us to sit-ups for 15 minutes, basic sit-ups and crunches. You know- the ones that most trainers know are not effective. At one point, no one knew what we were doing and he was gazing around the field not even watching. Please do not waste your 250+ dollars on this OR 70 dollars even on a Groupon. You could find something way better and overall these guys are just awful. i cannot believe they actually are making money and still scamming people off this. read more

Another update, I emailed last week asking about my check. They claimed they sent it 3 weeks ago. I asked about re-sending the check with a tracking number but haven't received a response. I was also asked to amend my Yelp review. I told them I would once I received the check and it was cleared by my bank, but since I haven't received a response from them or a check, I have contacted Groupon in order to try and get my money back. Will update when Groupon gets back to me. ETA: Groupon got back to me and gave me a full refund. Can't say enough how crappy the customer service this place has. read more

not only is this gym clean and free of sweaty stank, but ryan is a great coach. he really took the time to help me with my form and make sure we all got the most of our workouts. i use classpass a lot (they aren't on there) but some of my favorite gyms are there are slipping in terms of quality coaching/adjustments and overall gym experience. ryan was attentive to everyone there and i taught me some things i hadn't ever done before. it's great coming to a place like that and knowing you have the tools to go to your own gym, and get still crave this kind of great trainer experience. will DEFINITELY be back !! read more

I am a 46 year old woman and since working out at TRT, I have lost weight, become stronger and changed my body shape - all from the challenging, dynamic workouts and guidance from Ryan. He designs his work outs for all fitness levels. As I grow stronger, I am still constantly being challenged. He uses a variety of equipment - weights, TRX band, plyo boxes, ropes, machines and so much more. I never get bored with the workouts and know it is worth getting up for his 6:00 am class. My husband and I have been training here for about 14 months now, and we are both so thankful to have found Ryan and the community of people who train with him at Total Results Training. Although we started working out here specifically to get in better shape for a strenuous hiking trip in the Andes, we quickly decided that we wanted to continue working out here even after our trip was over. I was leery about joining any gym, because I had never been a member of any gym before and I had preconceived notions that small group training would be like a nightmarish boot camp, I am over 50 and was not sure I could keep up without getting injured, and I was not sure how welcoming the others in the small group would be to a newbie. Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised on all fronts. As others have stated, Ryan does a great job of mixing up the workouts so they do not become repetitive. He keeps things challenging and interesting, but doable. He is also able to motivate me to do things I did not think I was capable of doing without yelling or any kind of shaming. The vast majority of the other members are friendly and welcoming, so it really does feel like a community. Finally, Ryan takes a personal interest in his clients and is a keen observer and listener. This helps him to help tailor workouts when people are injured or have other limitations. Most of all, his attention to detail makes you feel valued. I am often amazed at how much he remembers about clients and their families and what is going on in their lives. This truly is a special place. read more

Where is the 6th star? I have been seeing Ryan a couple of times a week for a little over a year. He changes it up all the time so I am never bored and I constantly feel challenged. Small group training is great because you don't get to distract the trainer by chatting him up. Definitely worth every penny. Surprisingly, the endurance stuff we do has improved my running dramatically. I can't recommend ryan and TRT enough. The new space on Lincoln is also super convenient with plenty of parking. read more

I have been working out at Total Results Training for 6 months now. I am in the best shape of my life since I played college sports. I work out 3-4 times a week in the small group training sessions. The great thing about the small group training sessions is all fitness levels can work out together at once. Ryan my trainer gives me a results orientated workout every time. While Ryan is very friendly there is not a lot of chit chat during our sessions only Ryan pushing me to the level he knows I can reach. The best thing Ryan does is he watches us to make sure we do each exercise as it was intended. Making sure we are in the correct position for maximum results, and safety. read more

TRT Rocks! I have been an athlete most of my life and gone through a slew of workout regimens, but this is the one I am going to stick with. I easily get bored with the same routine and Ryan makes sure to always switch it up. No two days are ever the same and after each workout I feel like I got my butt kicked. I have been working with Ryan since January 2014 and he is an excellent trainer. I've been active all my life, believed I was in decent shape. I'm over 50, and he's helped change my body (for the better) no lie. No, it is not easy. Yes, it pushes my boundaries. However, I'm not injured, he's respectful and professional and he kicks my ass. Total Results Training has been amazing! I have been taking the boot camp classes since February (with a few breaks in there!), and the entire TRT team has been supportive the entire way. Each class is a little bit different from the one before, so I never know what to expect. This keeps it interesting, but best of all it keeps me from that feeling of dread that comes from knowing I'm about to have my butt kicked. Ryan gives personal attention to each of his clients, and is a great resource to go to when you're working through an illness, an injury, or just have a general question about how your body works. The environment is inclusive and supportive, so whether you are a total beginner or as fit as they come, you will find yourself challenged without feeling like you don't belong. You have enough freedom and support to push yourself harder or take it a little easier than your neighbor, but the group setting ensures you don't totally wimp out on yourself. While I still have a very difficult time with cardio work, I have absolutely noticed an improvement in my stamina over the months. I have also noticed a great increase in my muscle strength, energy level, and overall I just feel a whole lot better about myself. I have invited both my super-fit boyfriend and very unfit father to join me in classes, because I truly feel they both would benefit. This is a great, great company lead by amazing people, and the only thing I could say needs improvement is their website. You will love these classes!!! read more
