I had a really good experience when I visited the Total Wine & More at Potomac Yards. I went there looking for a wine I saw on IG or TikTok (I can't remember). Of course I called first to the location closest to me. They didn't have it. But, they told me the PY location had it. When I arrived, I was able to easily find help in the form of a team member. She walked with me to make sure I found what I was looking for. I also received additional assistance and recommendations from another team member who was very helpful. He provided great information about the wine I was looking for plus some additional recommendations. Very disappointing experience at the Total Wine in, Potomac Yard, Alexandria. The cashier refused my purchase because my daughter, who was shopping separately, was not immediately present to show ID. By the time my daughter came to the checkout, the situation had already escalated, and we left without buying anything. The cashier handled this poorly, and the response was rigid, dismissive, and unprofessional, and the manager did nothing to resolve the situation. This created an uncomfortable and embarrassing situation for my family, which should never happen during a simple purchase. What's most concerning is how inconsistent and unclear this policy is. If a family of adults come in together, are they required to check out together? Customers should not be forced to guess the rules at checkout or denied service based on arbitrary judgment. This experience reflects very poorly on store management and customer service. read more

Came to this location for a holiday wine tasting class. I'm not a big wine drinker, but the class was fun and opened my pallet to New. Wines picked up a couple bottles for different holiday events and a good time was had by all. read more

Unfortunately this is our closest total wine location and it seems like every time we visit, they have a worse selection of beer and wine and more aisles are filled with THC infused crap. Staff is consistently rude, with an attitude like buying things is inconveniencing them. After a visit today with a particularly rude cashier and discovering that the section of single beers had been reduced again, I will happily go without rather than return to this location. read more

This is an awful store. Here the customer is not a priority. I have ordered beer from them through a delivery service, and they ALWAYS send warm ones even though they have a cooler full of cold ones. If I ask the driver to ask for cold ones, they refuse to provide them. Tonight I called them to see if they had a specific wine in stock and asked what the case price was. Employee went and looked and said they had it in stock. Apparently the case price was too hard to figure out. He said, "It's whatever 12 times the cost of one bottle is. If you go to the app you can see what it is." Gee. Thanks. I asked him to pull a case for me. He said, "No. No one can do that." I said, "They can't?" He said, "No because we give priority to online orders." What the actual xxxx? So, I told him I would pull my own. Someone with customer service training who actually gave a rip about their customers would have said, "I'm so sorry, we only take orders through our app," or something POLITE AND HELPFUL. When I got there, there were three customers in the whole place. There were exactly three bottles on the shelf which he would have seen when he went to check if they had any. So, I had to ask someone if they had more in the back. A dude with a name tag said he would get someone to help me. I waited and waited and waited and no one came. Found another guy who said he had to get a ladder to see if he could find one. I was in a rush so just left with the three. I'll only ever shop here as a LAST resort. They get two stars for the big selection. read more

The biggest and the best place in the DMV to find wines, beers and any type of drinks you are looking for. The staff here are very knowledgeable and helpful. Someone even asked if I wanted a basket and then proceeded to go and get me one. They helped answer questions about a variety of wines and also happily educated me on different details of those wines. Not to mention, I came here looking for the impossible of wines....a wine that could meet the category of low carbs, mild tannins and low sugar. Yeah, I know, it's was a stretch!! But, the mid-year ---"new-year resolutions" struggle is real. Lol! Well 'lo and behold', in steps Total Wines & More. This store has several variety of wines and spirits that met exactly what I was looking for....which was booze without the guilt. I must say I was quite impressed, and the manager (sorry, I forgot his name) helping me to find these rare items in a sea. of wine bottles really knew his stuff and was very persistent-outstanding with the customer service provided. He walked me to each bottle location and helped explain the product. I really wish I could remember the guy (manager) that assisted me, he definitely deserves a shout out here! Nevertheless, I bought several bottles of different varieties. They were all good and now I'm quite pleased to find a place where I can get these items on repeat. I'll definitely be coming back to this store. Also, they allow returns if you don't like a wine. One last thing is they do $20 wine tasting and pairing classes every few weeks. This is in regards to a vist to the store on Richmond Highway on 20 Decemeber 2025 at around 1000am. The trip was relatively good except for my experience in the check out line. I bought two bottles of French wine and two other accompanying items. I needed a bag or something to carry them in and the cashier made no effort to provide me with one. I stood there for a moment after paying expecting her to do something regarding a bag, and she did nothing. When I tried to grab a bag, she told me they cost .5 cents. It would have been fine paying for it, but she never gave me the option. So, I carried everything out by hand.......and in the process lost my reading glasses in the parking lot. Been to this location twice now. First shortly after their grand opening and the second time was right around Christmas. The staff is wonderful, very insightful and willing to assist. I'm sorry but I visit this store weekly. There is only 1 person there who understands customer service and she is the one who brings my order to my car scheduled for curbside pickup. She knows we are regulars. We know she isn't there when we have to go in and chase down our order. Today two managers standing doing nothing, not being helpful, not offering help, blaming their store device while on their cell phones. If you are going to offer curbside pickup, remember, you got your money so fulfill your end of the service you offer. I started going here during pandemic when my brand was scarce but that not the case any longer. There are other options. read more

Love going to this place. I wish I had discovered it ages ago. The staff are so good and so friendly. Right now, I have an injured knee, so I got my wine delivered. The guy came right on time and was also super friendly and helpful (put the heavy box inside for me---and cheerfully). What a great experience! I've been to other Total Wine shops and had good experiences. But this store has chronic problems with out of stock items. Sadly, it is the closest one to me but I end up schlepping to other locations because they have difficulty with ordering adequate amounts of product. Also, the staff needs some additional training in what good customer service is. When I've asked where I might find a certain product, they point in a general direction and that is it. Then they get back to having their group conversation rather than working and helping customers. I worked in specialty food retail for many years in NYC. When a customer asks where something is, you walk them over to the specific product. While walking you ask them what they are using it for and can often (if you are knowledgeable about the product) help them choose additional items. What I tend to do now, is to go to UnWined. They have two locations in Alexandria. The staff there REALLY know wine and beer. And, if they don't have what you are looking for, they will order it for you and contact you as soon as it comes in. And they give price breaks on cases. Try asking someone at Total Wine to do that for you. Ha! read more

I love Total Wine! Huge selection to choose from as well as beer. They have cheap wine to expensive wines and everything in between. I like that they give scores on some of them and have a favorites section. They have a ton of recommendations from people that work there and then they have the scores. Now who makes these, I don't actually know, but the scores are usually pretty accurate. The store workers are so nice. They're always helpful and ask if you need anything. I was really excited to visit this Total Wine since they are generally an incredible shop with great selection and wonderfully knowledgeable staff. I had been holding onto a gift card for almost 2 years, through a move, and excited to redeem it. When I got to the cash register, they were unable to process it. It turns out I was missing the actual card - even though I had a bar code, I needed the card itself (which I don't remember receiving as it was a gift). Who knows, I might have used the card already and forgotten. I was simply looking for confirmation of - maybe I did receive a card and used it. Or was there a way to find out? The cashier Neq was very apologetic and helpful, but the store manager John was not friendly and basically told me that there was nothing I could do and to call the corporate HQ I was excited to patronize this store and tell all my friends about it, but the manager's attitude really turned me off. I had been waiting almost 2 years to go into a store and was extremely excited for this opening. I felt he could have been more understanding and either honored the card or given me a discount towards a future purchase. Total Wine and more has a beautiful new location right off of Richmond Highway. The easy access and ample free parking is a win-win when compared to its nearest peer in Ballston. The store itself has a fresh new feel to it but in terms of inventory appears to be pretty similar to what one would expect to find in Northern Virginia Total Wine & More establishment. read more

This is the best total wine! We go out of our way to shop here because the selection is fantastic and so is the staff. We love interacting with Mark and the team.
