Probably one the smaller Total Wines I have been to, but it is clean inside. They have beer and wine and no liquor. I think that's a Virginia thing. I was hear on the way to Luray Caverns seeking a particular liquor and ended up picking up some bottles of port wine. They have public restrooms if you need that information. I do like Total Wine and their rewards program. I get a good amount of reward dollars to spend. read more

We LOVE going here for their wide selection of wines everything from dessert wines to ports to some wines that cost, but there is something for every budget and palette. They have an excellent range of beers with more craft beers than you can count. ALL of the folks here are amazing and we love going in here and chatting with them. 4/25/21 When looking for wine, the name Beringer Pinot Grigio is my wife's favorite wine. Unfortunately today this store did not have what I was looking for. Looking around at the other wines, I think of all the people who have a love or taste for wine. I can learn about wines and appreciate the process of making wine, but I have no taste for it. Mike's Hard Lemonade, Lime or Watermelon is about as far as I go. Still I did see some wines that I am willing to try, but only when I am with my wife. I saw a watermelon sangria that caught my eye. If I am feeling up to it another day, I might go back and buy it. read more

I used to frequent Total Wine in Riveredge when I lived in Bergen County, NJ because they offered the largest selection of beer, wine, spirits, and related accessories at competitive prices. The store in NJ was quite large and conveniently laid out with wide aisles for their shopping carts. I visited this Gainsville location in February, which is very similar to the Riveredge store with wide aisles. I have visited this location many times over the past several years. In Virginia the Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) controls the sale of spirits, which are sold at separate ABC authorized stores. As a Total Wine member and frequent customer I received many incentives for discounts of 10% to 20% off my purchases. On today's visit I received 20% off 18 Winery Direct wines. Winery Direct wines are clearly labeled with prices ending with a 9. Wines priced ending with a 7 are not included in their Winery Direct discount. When I moved from NJ to Delaware I would shop at this Gainesville, VA store, when I would visit my family in VA. All locations honor my Total Wine coupons, which are now electronic for display on any mobile device including my iPhone. I will continue to shop here when I visit my family in Virginia. read more

Very disappointing! They were the only location around listed as having the mini Strongbow packs in stock for the summer season. I also called ahead to be sure that the online inventory information was correct. I was told by an employee that they did have the mini packs in stock, so I drove over 30 minutes to the store only to be told that they didn't really have them. (I even double checked the phone number to be sure I went to the correct Total Wine store.) It's one thing for the online inventory to be inaccurate, but it's very frustrating to try to verify the online stock information over the phone, only to be given the wrong details. The employees at the store did try to be helpful once I was there, but I wasted over an hour of driving time. They did seem to have a good selection of other beer/wine throughout the store, but I won't be making a special trip out to any of the stores in the future. read more

New to the neighborhood, open about 2 months. In the space that was formerly Golfsmith. I expect they will do better selling booze than golfballs here. This is one of the nicest stores of the franchise that I've been to. They even sell cigars! On a recent trip to London, I was introduced to Samuel Smiths, Organic Chocolate Stout. So pleased to learn it can be acquired here. In either 12 ounce or 16 ounce bottles! read more

This store is fantastic! The employees smile and are very helpful! I was looking for a particular kind of IPA made with fresh hops. A kind employee checked their computer to make sure they didn't have it in stock. They did not, so I brought to the check out a seasonal IPA, and what I thought was a different brand of fresh hopped IPA, at the register I realized it was a fresh hopped Pilsner. I was going to return it to the shelf where I got it, but the very nice cashier said she would put it back, no problem. Excellent customer service! This store is great! They also have a huge offering of IPA's and Craft beers. read more

Overall, this is an outstanding store for craft beer and wine. I drink a lot of beer and it's got everything here. It can be a little hard to find niche beers but you need to let the store managers know. read more

My main reason for the two-star rating is the embarrassing craft beer selection (or lack thereof) compared to other Northern Virginia stores. They either don't have a beer manager or need to find a new one. The staff is friendly enough, but without much of a selection, I don't have much of a reason to bother stopping in. read more

That other review is amazingly strange. This is the best Total Wine & More that I have ever entered. The beer selection alone left me stunned. There is pretty much anything you can think of on sale here. They have a section dedicated to Bell's. They have Dogfish Head 90 Minute for sale in cases. They have most beers available in cans. Amazing. I had a coupon that provided $2 off on up to 4 6 packs. The sixes were all value priced as is.Stunning. The wine selection is immense. They have about as many bottles in their Chardonay section as most wine stores have bottles. Check this place out. read more

This location has really nice staff and a great layout of the store. I've been helped many times and have liked all the suggestions when I shop for myself personally. 0 stars but Yelp made me give them one! I am 26 years old and went in with my husband, uncle and aunt to get some wine. My husband wanted to get the Game of Thrones wine to celebrate the upcoming episode and they wouldn't sell it to him because I didn't have my id. What kind of nonsense is that? I've gone to multiple Total Wine Stores and never have I been asked for an Id when my husband was buying, paying and purchasing the wine. Not Target, ABC Stores, or anywhere else were we have bought alcohol. The supervisor was called in and we explained that I wasn't buying or paying for the wine, my husband was and the incompetent cashier and supervisor still wouldn't understand and just invented some random excuse. They said it was the law to id both people buying wine. Never have I heard that and I looked up their store policy and the law, nowhere does it say that. Store policy states everyone buying alcohol needs to show their id. Well guess what?? My uncle wasn't asked for it yet my husband was, and in turn myself. Complete discrimination, inconsideration, and the manager/ supervisor was not helpful to us the customers and simply did not care! Will never come back to this or any other Total Wine Store! Will keep going to Target which sells cheaper wine anyways. Worst experience of my life. I felt so discriminated and attacked. read more

This is a rating based on beer only (not a wine drinker). Received the mailer prior to the grand opening and in it, they advertise having a growler station. Went there on opening night to discover they had changed their mind and will not have taps for growler fills. BIG MISTAKE! Also, the way they do their craft your own 6 pick is ungodly expensive as they have set prices for individual beers rather than a fixed 6 pack price. Even if you choose 6 of the less expensive bottles which are 1.99 each, you're staring at a $12 six pick (minimum). I think I'll stick with Wegman's for my mix-a 6's and continue to go to Whole Foods in Fair Lakes for growler fills. I gave it 2 stars because they do have a very good selection. Might buy standard 6ers from them on coupon deal. Extremely disappointing. read more

Love that they opened this store in Gainesville! Standard beer and wine, but easy to get in and out of. Lines are never long. Coupons never apply to the items you buy, and not sure bring a rewards member has saved us anything. Prices are average. read more

I can't say how much I love this store. The manager and staff have been helpful and attentive every time I've gone in. It's clean and surprisingly easy to navigate. They also have a great assortment of cigars in a huge walk-in humidor. It's just such a relief a total wine finally came to Gainesville, it makes hosting parties a little bit easier because I don't have to go out of my way to get good wine. read more

Pre paid for in store pickup of Anderson Valley Gose Blood Orange. Showed in stock online and they processed by credit card. Hours later I get an email saying order was cancelled but no explanation. When online and product still showed in stock. Called store and after several minutes was told, sorry about that, inventory mistake. Still shows in stock online. Mistakes happen and I understand that but the inventory should be corrected immediately and an email should be sent with a better explanation. Very poor customer service. read more

I felt obligated to report my horrible experience at this store and state why I will not be returning to this or ANY other Total Wine location due to the rudeness of one store manager. I have been visiting this location weekly since it opened and spending 15 dollars or more each visit. Tonight I went in for a growler the website shows sells for 4.99. After not being able to locate the item a friendly employee asked if I needed help and located it for me. Once to the register the cashier rung it up and it came up at the correct price but just then a very rude manager ran up and barked at me "where did you get this?" as if I had walked into a stockroom and taken the item myself. Then he demanded to know "who gave this to you" "we don't sell these at this particular store!" I told him that they are on the website and he rudely reiterated "well we don't sell them here" and made the cashier cancel the sale. Regardless of this store's policies his rudeness cost not just this store my business but the company as a whole. I do not give my hard earned money to companies which treat me as if my business does not matter to them! read more
