Walked in for the Deli section and waited for the employee to finish what he was doing to start my order. Some time goes by and he just deliberately ignored me. Another employee from the cake section had to come up and asked if I needed anything. It was then he said "I was ignoring because we are not open yet". Overall, the store isn't bad and service is decent, but this is the only grocery chain where nearly each time I go, I find expired food on the shelves. This most recent time I found 3 packs of expired pasta and gave it to a manager, but clearly the staff who manages each of these departments aren't keeping up with this. read more

Event better if you have a smartphone, you can add the HT app and save more $'S They have some great coupon deals, like buy 10 for $10 on canned goods. Buy two and get three free on Classico products. They have a great selection of fresh fruit & vegetables. Always fresh Gala apples. Especially in season, look for the BOGO deals on strawberry's & blueberry's. They have a Va Lottery machine as well, it's automated and most of the time it works. Playoff weekend so extremely busy, completely understandable. What is not understandable is the manager not jumping in to help the associates with a four people line in the deli. The associates did not acknowledge the line or say "we will be right with you". I was in line for over 20 minutes and not one person in the store including the manager of the store or the deli manager jumped in to help. The team should be trained to call for assistance and there is no reason managers should not notice and help. read more

I'm sorely disappointed in the produce at this Harris Teeter. The fish selection is abysmal; I now go to Wegmans for my Omega-3s. Overall the store has gone downhill markedly in the past year. Additionally, checkout counters are understaffed during peak hours. The cashiers that are present look haggard, overworked and have the attitude to prove it. It is a sad state of affairs at this market. One can only place the blame on management. read more

Offensively high priced regular items with reasonably priced sales items hidden throughout store. $3.79 per lb for HoneyCrisp Apples? $10.59 per lb for most lunch meat. The pharms inside their stores have changed hours and close at 7 pm. At 650 there were 12 ppl waiting to pick up. Reston n Ashburn my have a lot of work from home ppl, but for many service workers, moms with small kids, evening is always best. Although no new prescriptions could be dropped off, they were they till at least 730. Sundays close at 5! Simply uncaring and unrealistist to how ppl live today. Go back to 8pm or even 9. read more

Won't be back even thou I live very close. Just went thru the self check out and the woman "helping" provided the worst customer service. I am rarely in the self checkout because I usually have a huge basket of groceries. I didn't see the code on the monitor for the salad bar. She didn't say anything to me but took her finger and roughly poked the "code" on the monitor and then got up in my face and just starred at me. Then after processing my payment the system was spinning, again she got within 12 inches of my face, hit the "debit" card button and then went to the next register where she was slamming stuff around. With all the competition around, I would think Harris Teeter would be more on top of the people they hire. read more

After the issue with the expired goods the comapny made things right by pulling all the expired cases and giving us a credit to buy a replacement of the milk we had to discard. The only small gripe I have now is that the selection of goods isn't always consistent and things that sold well disappear sometimes but that's not a dealbreaker. read more

This is your run of the mill Harris Teeter. It is clean, well stocked and has about average pricing. However, the clerk I interacted with yesterday was single-handedly the most rude HT employee I have ever encountered. My husband and I are stopped in for a couple of bottles of wine, some allergy medicine and some produce to take to a cookout and decided not to go the do it yourself checkout since I didn't have my VIC card on me (and since I got it in college I have no idea what my dorm number is anymore). Well, the lady didn't care. I have had this happen before and the clerk will usually just ring up the one they have on hand for such instances. But nope. Not this lady. I guess the fact that she didn't even greet us, she just barked at me that she needed my ID and then stared me down while I retrieved it from my (two small for it's own good) purse (hence why I didn't have my card on me) should have tipped me off she wouldn't care. *sigh* Why is this woman working in customer service? HT, you can do better. read more

Harris Teeter over Safeway for sure. For me, it's easier to get in the plaza, parking seems more plentiful and carts/ baskets are always available. The grocery has always been clean without that dirty mop smell (Safeway). Produce is great, and the guys at the meat counter are awesome. Seriously, the staff are all friendly and helpful... I think even the shoppers are nicer. :-) The Starbucks layout is also better than Safeway, multiple people can get to the mixing station vs being cramped in a tiny afterthought area. Although the seating area can get in the way. -1 for the self checkout; I really wish it'd be a 15 items or less area. I constantly see shoppers ringing up a full(er) cart and a long line of people with their hands full (no cart or basket). read more

I prefer Harris Teeter to the Safeway for many thing. The price of milk, butter, eggs and orange juice are pretty good here compared to Safeway. For most non-perishables, there is the Super Target a mile down the road. I do like that Harris Teeter carries a lot of southern oriented stuff. There is no Food Lion around, and the nearest Bloom is way over in Manassas, so that is a nice thing that HT has going for it. I really like the granny smith apples there, but they are $5 for a 3 pound bag. At Wegman's you can also get very good apples for $3. Harris Teeter's not 10 miles away however. read more

Purchased a "fresh" cod fillet from the seafood department. After cooking an ammonia smell was emanating from the fish. Being then uneducated about how a fish should smell (other than "like fish"), I figured maybe the ammonia was used in cleaning it -- idk I'm not a fish monger. Took a bite, sure enough, mouthful of ammonia. Further research has shown that an ammonia smelling fish is a rotten fish. Quite disappointed because it was a waste of $10. I very rarely go to this Harris Teeter due to their prices, but we were waiting on getting glasses fixed and decided to stroll over. The store is very clean and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. I find the store to be somewhat disorganized in their set up. There are multiple areas to find similar products. That being said, the staff will actually walk you to the areas to assist you in finding what you want. Today I encountered Kevin stocking shelves and when I told him I was looking for peppered jelly, he stated that there were a few places to look, but he would walk with me to help me find it. That was amazing to me, and much appreciated since I had a slightly impatient child with me. I also liked the several samples in the deli area. The checkout area is a bit clustered and disorganized. The checkout registers are very close to the aisles of food, and it's hard to know where to stand. The cashiers are also very nice and will give you the discount if you forget your VIC card. read more

Just okay though. I couldn't believe they didn't carry Combos. Neither could the employee i asked for help finding them. My family frequents this establishment a lot in the past, usually spending $150 a week. But recently went in to purchase some Breyers Ice Cream and it was $6.29 for a half gallon. I have had it with the pricing game this store plays. My family and I will never step in this store again. I love this Harris Teeter! The first time I moved here and went into the Harris Teeter, I thought it was wonderful. They have some of the best baked cookies I have ever tasted from any grocery store. Harris Teeter's store brand itself is just a step up from the rest. Their produce department I have found to be excellent and fresh. Also, customer service has always been very nice. The employees always seem to be pleasant and greet you when they see you. It's a nice and upbeat atmosphere. Free samples! Sugar cookies on the way in or out, pineapple and cantaloupe in the fruit isles, sushi sample, sandwich meat, cheese, and dessert samples nearby. The shopping experience is as expected, though they have a large bakery / salad bar / sushi bar / etc on the West side of the store. I wish they would stock my favorite coffee creamer, Lucerne Hazelnut (no fat), which I have only been able to find at Safeway. +The staff is motivated to open new lanes when there is even a small line at the register. *Note - when checking out, the cart goes on the cashier's side of the conveyor, which throws some people off. If you have kids in tow when you need to grocery shop, this is where you need to go. Never have I ever been treated so poorly at any store. I visited the deli for some Boars Head meats (the main reason I go to Teeters). The deli manager was incredibly rude. She was snapping at the employees and addressed me very poorly, approaching me and stating, with a horrible scowl "What do you want"? She proceeded to hiss and mumble under her breath, as if I was bothering her. I got her name from another employee. Her name is Angie and I suggest she be avoided at all costs. I usually give the benefit of the doubt and assume that she was just having a bad day but this has happened on more than one occasion. I will no longer go to this location and will just have to travel further for my deli fix, or maybe I will just start going to Giant. I strongly suggest that Harris Teeter rethink their hiring practices. read more

Is usually a friendly experience, after my recent visit to Safeway I have more appreciation for. Only main issue is not enough cashiers but their always friendly. Like most stores you have to know what is a good price there and what is not. Really good produce, nice wine selection, I recommend their Ribeye steaks, usually a good price and I've never had a bad one. Never had any issues with refrigerated food but occasionally you find products on the regular shelves expired if they don't sell a lot of it. Starbucks inside is my preferred one, don't waste your time going to the one in Safeway, their equipment is down and their out of whatever you want. read more

Our house sits between Safeway and Harris Teeter. We definitely prefer Harris Teeter. It's always clean, well-lit, and adequately staffed. They can be a bit pricey on some items, so I am careful to shop the sales. Watch for their triple-coupon deals! The produce department is probably the weakest link; it tends to be fresh but quite pricey. Their security announcements are a bit annoying, as well. I emailed the company about their frequency, but never received a reply. I've rarely waited more than 1-2 minutes to check out at this store. With 4 little ones, that is a defininte perk. I love this place, especially the Express Lane shopping. I take my time searching online and carefully looking at specials and prices and then pick it up right in front of the store...they even load it in for you. While the fee to do this around 5 bucks, it is well worth it in my over 75 dollar savings by being careful and not allowed to impulse buy! read more

We absolutely love this HT. we have been going there for years and have always been happy. They have a great selection in the deli, bakery and flower section. They rarely don't have what we are looking for. The only time this has happened is when we needed baby formula that they rarely carry. They also can be pricer then say Target. It's really also a convenience factor as well since they are around the corner and open 24/7. We will keep going back! read more
