Had to wait an hour and a half for my order. Got a soggy sub with slices of green tomatoes and greasy fries

Fan, fan, fan! Ok it…read moreall started a year ago, when my mother wanted to go have diner to a restaurant owned by the Winner of Les Chefs (French Canadian Tv show ). We then decided we would do this each year, but this year she asked we go to her favorite chef,s and not necessarily the winner. So The sis how we got to Mui Mai, one of Chef Minh's 3 restaurants. This cozy cute little joint that doesn't,t look like much from outside it well decorated inside with its simplistic yet cozy decor. The staff is nice and quite knowledgable about their products. Food wise, well, what can I say I am in love. Ok, let me calm down. I'll first start with my bestie and my mother who each had the package deal: you get 3 services, if I don't mistake for only 65$ (please note this is summer 2025 if you read this in 3 year from now!!!). Inexpensive for the quality. So each service has like 2-3 smaller format of some items of the menu. You get to taste lots of plates from the menu. On my side, as a vegan and gluten free eater, thus by intolerance,s I was able to get three different items (there were 2 more I could have had, but have a small appetite). Ok, are you ready? THE BEST RICE EVER! This Nori and sesame rice, brought me to a world, I still cannot describe. BEST RICE EVER! Dis I mention they had the best rice ever? And oh, f you try to reproduce it at home, good luck...I did and was nothing like at the resto. love dit so much, I bought an extra portion to bring home. And truly, I think that if ever I pass nearby, going back home (live in North shore), I would stop to get a take out of their rice. Finally we got to meet Chef Minh...simply nice and so human. Thank you Chef Minh to make one of my mother's dream come true! TO BE DISCOVERED!

Sadly this spot is not at all up to par and a huge disappointment. Coming from New York, I will say…read moreour expectations for high level food are higher than average. Mui Mui's menu seemed as though it would be interesting and full of flavor, but that was not at all the case. Each of the four dishes we ordered lacked seasoning, punch, and overall balance. Eating at an Asian restaurant, there's an assumption that the food will be filled with exciting flavors and seasoned accordingly. Each dish lacked acidic balance and between the albacore, scallops, thai-inspired noodles, and ribs, the scallops were the only dish of taste. Each sauce pairing was either too heavy for the dish at hand, or too light for the noodle and meat bases. This was a let down as our first meal on Montreal and would not recommend to diners alike.

The service was good. They took our order and brought out our food. A bowl of rice is not included with entrees. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, beef chow fun, and pan fried dumplings. Sweet and sour chicken was ok, the sauce was good, I just would've liked a tad less breading on the chicken. The noodles were what I expected with beef, bean sprouts and green onions. Pan fried dumplings were good and a nice side.

We got the deep fried pork wontons ($5), crispy shrimps ($17.95) and house noodles with beef ($15.95). The fried wontons were really crispy. The wonton wrappers were all blistery. My only complaint is that the amount of ground pork in each wonton was very little, but I guess considering the price, I guess it's to be expected. Luckily the house noodles with beef had a good amount of beef in it. The beef was lean and tender. The noodles were a good texture and there was also broccoli, Bok Choy, onions, cabbage and carrots in it. This was my favourite of the 3 dishes we had. The shrimps were tasty too, but I felt less bang for our buck since the portion was small. The shrimps were crispy and there was diced onions and bell peppers mixed in. There were chili flakes too, so it was a bit spicy. Service was really efficient. Our food came out in record time. They also gave us 2 refillable bottles of water and as soon as we emptied one, they swapped it out for a full one. As soon as we finished a dish, they removed the empty dish from the table. The restaurant is really small, so the servers had an easy view of all the tables. It was almost comical how efficient they were, lol. This place is popular. They seem to have a lot of regulars. Decor is casual. We had a great meal and would return. Review #72 (2025)

The Long Version: I love hand pulled noodles, so my husband and I had lunch here. He's not a fan of noodle soups but agreed to come and just have appetizers, lol. I got the small-sized Spicy Mushrooms and Chicken Noodle Soup ($13.99). I chose the #6 size noodles which is the thickest noodles they offer. My husband got the imperial rolls ($4.50 for 3) and the fried shrimp wontons ($11.99 for 10). I really enjoyed my soup, especially the thick noodles. They were chewy and the right amount of softness. There were chicken pieces in it, mushrooms and a delicious "tofu sausage." It also had 2 pieces of baby Bok Choy and some pieces of kelp. I wished there was more vegetables. The soup also had green onions and cilantro. The broth was a tiny bit spicy from the chili oil. I am happy that this soup does not have sesame seeds in it, so I didn't have to ask them to hold the sesame seeds. Lol. My only complaint would be that the broth was a bit too salty and too oily for my tastes. I still thought it was good though. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The imperial rolls were vegetarian. I didn't have any, but they looked like nothing special to me, haha. However, the hubby liked them which is what matters. The fried shrimp wontons looked good and he liked those too. Service was pleasant and efficient. The decor is casual with some fun touches. I liked the rotating lanterns with lights on the ceiling and the drawings of a big squid and clams on the walls. I would return to try their other noodle soups and also their handmade dumplings. Review #10 (2026)

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.
