He gave us a rich historical background of Asheville before guiding us through the streets, where we stopped at various points of interest. Along the way, he highlighted restaurants, landmarks, and historical sites dating from the 1700s to today. His storytelling made the city come alive, and I learned so much more than I expected. We love zoos, but this was so much more…read morethan just staring at a bunch of animals behind bars - instead we had multiple opportunities to get up close, touch and feed the animals. In addition, some free range friends walked along with us humans on the tour and literally wanted to eat out of our hands. Our guides, Maddie and Shane, were fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable about the animals, and excellent at making sure everyone in the fairly sizable tour group had an opportunity to see or feed each animal they introduced. We bought the "Kit and Kaboodle" package which was so incredibly worth it! Some zoos allow you a "personal encounter" with one species, or by holding up an animal and letting you pet it,... but in the encounter room, Maddie and Shane spent an hour or more introducing us to at least 10 animals, all different species, in very interactive ways. We held armadillos, hand wrestled a mongoose, let a tiny monkey jump from shoulder to shoulder between us eating Fruit Loops, fed and high-fived otters, and so much more. I truly can't say enough about how happy we are that we included Darby Safari in our first ever trip to Charlotte!

Tebbe is a masterful storyteller with a deep command of Asheville's history, economics, and politics, and he weaves them all together to bring the city to life. He traced Asheville's story from its Native American highway of towns spaced 20 miles apart, through every boom, bust, and upheaval, right up to the residential growth reshaping the city today. What could have been a dry history lesson of dates and buildings became a beautifully described story of how Asheville became the city it is now. Tebbe was incredibly patient with our questions, genuinely engaged with our curiosity, and made the tour feel like a conversation with a new friend rather than a scripted presentation. We found ourselves completely drawn into his stories. This tour sticks out as probably the best city walking tour I've ever taken.

We were on our way from Columbus, OH to Asheville, NC when we stopped in Johnson City, TN for the…read morenight. My wife saw some information on the historic Town of Jonesborough, TN and we made a last-minute, spur of the moment decsion to take a quick detour to Jonesborough and "just drive through to see it". We ended up stopped at the visitor's center and then spent about 2 hours doing a walking tour of the town. The Town of Jonesborough dates to 1779 and it is the oldest town in the State of Tennesse. The town is a well-deserved but still functioning piece of history. Walking down the main street and reading the history of the town was very interesting and informative. This is one of the best "spur of the moment" side trips we've ever made.

Highlights - Great place to walk, run, bike or walk your…read moredogs - Restaurants and places to get a drink are not far off the Strollway - Old Salem section is great - Runs from 4th Street to the Greenway The Downtown Strollway runs from Salem Avenue, past Old Salem and into downtown, ending (or beginning) on 4th Street. Great trail for walking, running, walking the dogs or riding a bike. The Old Salem section of the Strollway is a 5 star. The trail takes you right past Old Salem. You will pass right by the Old Salem Visitors Center and the Heritage Bridge. You can cross over the street using the bridge and visit Old Salem if you like. The trail in this section is wide enough for all people coming and going. If you follow the Strollway south you will end up at the Greenway, which you can take to Winston-Salem State or Salem Lake to the west, or Washington Park to the east, but that is another review. You do have to cross over a busy street (Salem Avenue) but there is a nice wine shop on the other side. The northern route past Old Salem takes you to downtown and ends at 4th Street. This takes you under Business 40 and past Corpening Plaza park. Nice part of this section is you end up right into the heart of all of the downtown restaurants on 4th Street. This section requires crossing 3 streets in downtown. The only reason I don't have the Strollway rated 5 stars is the section running under Business 40 can be a little sketchy. This will change after the Business 40 renovations are completed.

We had paid a deposit for two days of tour but when we contacted them 3-4 days prior we received a curt email which incorrectly stated that we were only booked for one day. Most businesses would have at least reviewed emails after receiving a detailed note from a client before sending such a rude response as the one we received. When we asked in repeat emails about what options were available for lunch and other specific questions no answers were received. However, the day of the tour George tried to turn the blame on us stating we would have needed to pre- order the meal with him despite his lack of email response about meal options. We also felt racially profiled since his interaction with my husband who is Caucasian visibly altered in addition to his entire demeanor, once we joined them In the hotel lobby and he realised that the other members of the tour, myself included were black. We opted not to take this tour since we felt that the new terms were different from what was previously discussed (not to mention he promised full flexibility with tours repeatedly on the phone) and we couldn't figure out how he'd be able to take us walking with the boot safely. We also were very specific in prior discussions that we had no interest in visiting the Biltmore estate but this was what George was encouraging us to switch to the day of the tour (once again probably because of his own limitations) He also tried to make us try to sign a waiver but then he got angry and defensive when we politely asked few polite questions about his insurance coverage and things to clarify what he was asking us to sign. Overall, I consider this a near miss event since everything suggested this tour would have been a competent disaster of a day had we gone on the road with George. The tour we ended up taking instead with a different company far exceeded our expectations without any hassle or racist undertones. George will probably try to defend his behavior by accusing us of being rude (this is in response to us asking for clarifications and for what we booked ) but since issues started way back from his side of the correspondence (or lack thereof) you can be the judge of the situation

We were really taken aback how the area has changed for the good in such a short period of time. The amount of great art, food, and drink in such a cute community is really great. He made several points about the history of the area that I had not heard about before and I thought I was familiar with the area.
