In Blowing Rock, NC this is the place for outdoor and hiking gear and shoes. Those Keens caught my eye as my wife and I went inside. A minute or two for a separate staff person to come help us, as another staffer was there in the shoe area. A couple of try ons (as my shoe size in Keens can be 11 or 11 1/2) and I was ready to go; however, my wife who initially did not look the look of the bubble toe on the Keens (for women or men) was finally talked into trying a pair of Keens on and walking around in the shop. I can't say enough good things about this store and all the people who work there! My husband and I are avid hikers across the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah. When we need new hiking shoes we make the trip down from Richmond, VA and make a stop here while we're in town. They are always helpful finding out what kind of hiking you're doing and what styles you're comfortable with - my husband has to have tall, over-the-ankle height- and making sure they're the right fit for what you need. I have been to this store several times while vacationing in Blowing Rock over the years. It is usually a regular stop when we are strolling around town and we usually find something we "need" when we are in there. Earlier this week (on Wednesday) we were in town and wanted to shop, but we were there before they opened at 10:00 am as posted on the front door (we were about 40 minutes early). My wife and I killed some time walking around and then found a nice spot to sit and wait for the last 20 minutes until opening time. At 10:05 am the front door was still locked, so we walked into the coffee shop next door, which I believe is affiliated with Footsloggers, and asked when someone would be opening the store. The young lady told us very matter of factly that they aren't opening at 10:00 am until Friday and that the days and hours have been changed, presumably because of Covid. In fact, they would not be open at all today. How hard is it to put a sign on the door that says they have changed the hours? We said we had been waiting more than 40 minutes and there was no apology and when we suggested that they post the correct hours on the door it was not even acknowledged. I checked their website and it has not been updated either and shows that they open at 10:00 am Mon. - Fri. Be considerate of your patrons or they may not be your patrons anymore. read more

Great outdoor store with high quality products and knowledgeable, friendly staff. My wife and I decided to hike in the rain near Blowing Rock and my wife didn't have the jacket she would need to stay dry and happy. So with the slogan "happy wife = happy life" I found Footsloggers online and we made a beeline there given we were staying nearby. The short haired lady (used only to help identify her because I don't recall her name) who helped us was awesome - I asked her if she was a hiker and she clearly was (and also sounded like she liked the snow as well). She asked if we needed help as soon as we entered the store, and she was already wearing a mask which was reassuring. When we explained what we wanted she didn't immediately take us to the most expensive items, she explained the differences in price and what you get for it. Her knowledge was high and it sounded like she had firsthand experience which was super helpful. My wife and I settled on a perfect jacket that ended up keeping her perfectly dry on our hike while my Eddie Bauer Weathertec jacket lasted about an hour in the pouring rain and ultimately I was the one who got wet..!! Footsloggers is a store with only good quality stuff - I didn't notice any cheap stuff that doesn't last. I would whole-heartedly recommend this place to anyone wanting good quality product that really works. It's not a discount store so don't expect the lowest prices, but i believe that supporting a local business that provides real knowledge and assistance is worth paying for when the service and help is real.
