This is absolutely a WALKING tour. Totally doable but definitely a workout. I wouldn't book this if you have mobility concerns tbh. Not the tour's fault. Old San Juan overall isn't too accessible. Also be aware that PR has (and has had for a whiiiiile) water issues all over. So pee before you go on the tour because you may not find a working bathroom. You get to move at your own pace and see what you want to see. Javier was excellent with the communication re-confirming the tour the night before and right on time for pickup. There were some concerns about rainy weather, but we lucked out with barely a sprinkle of precipitation. We first ventured outside San Juan along the coast, passing beachfront areas and smaller towns enroute to a nature reserve. It was refreshing as I had been to San Juan multiple times before, but never ventured all that much outside the San Juan city limits. After a delightful overview of the ecosystem, we went to the small town of Loiza. There we visited a waterfront multicultural center/gallery (Antiguo Ancon de Loiza) that used to serve as the historical water barge transport location for the city until a bridge was created to connect Loiza to the land west of the river. We then visited a natural cave area with these incredible local musicians largely consisting of drumming and singing (very unique and cultural). I didn't expect natural caves so close to the town & coast. We then visited a beautiful beach restaurant (Villa Pesquera Herrera) where there there's ocean out back and a river off to the side. It was here and central Loiza where scenes from the first episode of season 5 of the Netflix show Cobra Kai were filmed to portray a town in Mexico. I would have totally missed it if Javier didn't point it out. We then got a great overview of old San Juan and surrounding areas like Isla Verde and Condado. The tour of Old San Juan took us on so many of the winding cobblestone streets, with excellent coastline views. Javier was excellent in providing a historical overview of the city and how the fortifications were designed, playing a vital role in the defense of the city. With the private tour, we got to stop off for food and a delicious frozen treat at Señor Paleta in Old San Juan. We covered so many unique areas that I would never have stumbled upon if I hadn't taken this tour, and covered more ground than I did on both my prior 2 trips to San Juan combined. Javier was very accommodating to our needs and was informative and kind every step of the way. I wouldn't hesitate to book a tour with him again and will be recommending him to friends & family when visiting Puerto Rico.

Hector is one of the best tour guides I've ever had the pleasure of traveling with. Our itinerary was basically the "Let me show you MY island" tour but we just asked for it to start two hours later (at 10am) and end at Farjardo where we are staying for the night. Hector was funny, informative, and so friendly. He really went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time and provide the best service possible: - We were 6 girls on my bachelorette and we forgot my selfie stick at home. We asked Hector if he can take a picture of all of us at the beginning of the trip. From that point on, he not only offered to take our photos at every stopping point but even directed us on where to stand so that we can get the best photo. - He really had a love of the island and its history and did a great job connecting all the dots of history for us from Puerto Rico's indigenous history to colonialization days and even all the famous people PR has produced throughout the year. He also gave a lot of great recommendations for everything from tourist shops to bars/areas we should visit. - Technically our tour was supposed to be 6 hours but Hector let us stay extra time at certain spots and brought us to places that weren't on the itinerary and always spent extra time getting our photos. He offered to extend the tour so that we can eat at a sit-down restaurant which we really appreciated. And at the end of our tour, even as he's dropping us off at our Airbnb, he stayed around until we opened the door before leaving. Puerto Rico is beautiful with such a long history but Hector really made this tour for us. We all had the best day and it was such a great start to my bachelorette. We met the boat crew around 545pm as the ride starts at 6 and goes 90min. We paid $257 for 2 adults and 1 teenager. We left on time and the crew was great. They provide you a snack plate of grapes. Turkey sandwich wrap, baby bell cheese and pretzels. You also get water, soda or beer free as part of the tour. You get to see old San Juan, irs bldg, morrow castle, governors home, along with other sites. The crew of 3 has a captain, first mate and tour guide. The play music in between sites and bring the tour group into conversations on history, where they are from snd if they are celebrating anything. Here is something that is outstanding and rare during any excursion. He took a lot of pictures for us and he sends you a link to download all of them for FREE! I have never had an excursion do that before. If you do a dolphin or stingray type of excursion you know you will have to pay to get the pictures they take. The insult is they often also don't allow you to bring your own camera so you are forced to buy their pictures. Not this guy. How do you not love him for the fact he not only doesn't charge you but he takes so many for you and with you that it basically is a recap of the day with him. We had over 120 pictures alone that he took for us. It's awesome not to be gouged on an excursion.This was an unexpected add on for us. The walking portion in Old San Juan is fascinating and colorful and thrilling all at the same time. I can't say enough how great a place Puerto Rico is. Such diversity on the island. Historic Old San Juan, forts, stunning beaches, rain forest, night life, luminescence tours etc. Puerto Rico offers so much and the people are so nice and accommodating. We've been there twice and will be back again and will insist on spending a day with Carlos again. He is that good. His email replies and phone calls for any questions are always helpful and he does respond to questions in a timely manner. Keep in mind he could be on tour and he can't reply immediately. Carlos is so warm and personable it's great for this gringo to now have an hombre in lovely Puerto Rico.
