This location is an absolutely lovely spot to go for a hike. My SO and I got to explore the park on a quiet Monday morning, there weren't many people around. The trails were clearly marked and very clean, making our trek enjoyable. We hiked to the top of Tourne, enjoying the fresh air and views. We also got to explore the Emily K. Hammond Wildflower Trail, which was a nice detour from the normal trails. We'll be returning once the flowers are expected to bloom so we can learn more about the species on the trail. read more

Love this place. Enough trails to hike for a while. And do different trails each time. The only bad thing is that hikers don't always leash their dogs and too many bikers on the trails. They tear up the trails and never warn you they are coming. The Morris county parks commission does a great job maintaining the trails. Thanks for providing a nice park close to home. read more

I frequent this little quaint hiking spot a lot with my family, family friends, and friends. I really enjoy it here. There's a playground, a little gazebo and picnic area and plenty of hiking trails. The little hilly hike is enough to get anyone, young or old sweating profusely and grabbing a nice view of New York on a nice day at the top. The view also has the American flag waving around as a monument. The trails are easy and well seen with various trail markers. At the top, there are also some picnic areas. It's a rather quick hike to get up the mountain but it is a nice workout. Looking forward to coming back here again and again with everyone. read more

It's 547 acres of Morris County recreational opportunities highlighted by the Emile K. Hammond Wildlife Trail. There is a kiosk at the entrance to the fenced in native plant area which during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons has a free green booklet which explains the various plants which are labelled along this self-guided tour. There are also 9 hiking trails which are easy to moderate in difficulty. Trail maps are available at the parking area kiosks. The Short Loop hike will take you to the top of the Tourne, elevation 897', for a view of the NYC skyline. In my opinion it is an ok view but hardly spectacular. The trail has a 10% grade and is easily navigated by most people. It's a year round park. Winter features sledding, snowshoeing and x-country skiing. There is a lot of diverse scenery and wildlife to look at. Summer features biking and equestrian trails. I have not seen many horses on the trails but I have seen some. Pets are allowed but need to be leashed. There are also athletic fields (softball and baseball), picnic areas, a lake for fishing and a pavilion which can be rented. You have to call 073-326-7631 to reserve it. Restrooms are available. The park offers a free semi-isolated nature experience which I have often enjoyed. read more

This was my first time at Tourne County Park. It was a Saturday when I attended a group hike. We explored the blue, red, white and purple trails, passing such places as Rattlesnake Meadow, safely. It was quiet in some parts but don't come here if you are seeking seclusion. It was reassuring to see so much activity in the woods. Also, it seems everyone here has at least one very large dog. read more

Very nice park, I like it because the trails are pretty easy, since I am no hiking pro. There are a lot of nice views especially at the top of the mountain you can see the city. There is also a nice little garden that has a bunch of different flowers, but obviously nothing this time of year. Great place to walk around with the family, feel free to bring your dog on the trails too. read more

Really enjoyed it here. Well maintained, large parking lots, and lots of nice things to see. This was my first visit, and I took a self-guided hike (using a book you can pick up at the trailhead) along the Wildflower Trail. I can't wait to come back and see this place in late spring / summer. There are signs along the trail with names of plants, as well as numbers that correspond to reading in your booklet as you go. There's over 200 varieties of wildflowers here. It's very informative and, like I said, very well maintained. I carried on from the Wildflower Trail to hike to the top of the Tourne. Nice views all around. It's a quick hike up, but take your time and enjoy it. The short hike is on a constant incline, so while not steep, it'll help you get some cardio in. There's picnic tables at the top if you want to bring lunch up with you. I can't wait to come back in the warmer seasons. read more

My hubby and I used to visit Tourne to mountain bike, but today we went so the dog could get out for a little hike. Roxy, our pup loved it. There were groups picnicing, bike riding and a few hiking. I like the white trail (drive to the second parking lot, then walk toward the metal fence, bypass it and bare left), if I had to guess, I'd say it's under 2.5 miles and ends up by a little swimming area (I believe you have to be a county resident to swim). read more

A Playground and Hike to Enjoy Entering Tourne County Park from the West Entrance (Norris Road and Mccaffrey Lane) will lead you to a parking Lot located near a playground, the western Red Trail Entrance, and Porta-Pottys. The playground and play structure are designed for 5-12 year olds but has 2 toddler swings to keep smaller ones happy. There are no standard or harness swings available at this location but it does not diminish the play experience here. The ground cover is made of wood chips and there is a small sand box area set to one corner of the playground. This playground has a few stand out features that make it a destination in its own right. There is an original see-saw that can be used sitting Or standing! It is a must see feature for those who look for interesting playground features. There is also a suspended bench swing to be used by little ones or those watching them. I wished I could have had a Mint Julep or something similar while relaxing on it. The west end of the Red trail will join up with the Yellow trail which is essentially a loop leading to the top of Tourne Park. The vista and picnic tables at the top of the trail will allow you to relax enjoy the nature around you as well as the view of the New York city skyline off in the distance. The trails made of dirt and gravel (think access style roads) are wide and are fairly easily traversed by beginning hikers including the 4 year old boys we brought with us to enjoy the afternoon outside. The mature trees in the area which are well blazed with trail markers will help keep you comfortably shaded during your hike, jog, and/or bike ride. On the East end where the Red and Yellow trails meet you will see a gate that leads to the Wildflower Trail. We did not have time to check this out on our visit but it does have over 250 different types of wildflowers that are marked and available for viewing while they are in bloom. If you come here be sure to bring your bug repellent to reduce the number of little critters that will try to buzz around you. Also remember to bring plenty of water and snacks as I did not see any water fountains or places to get snacks and/or food while we were here. We had a great time here playing and searching for geocache locations off of the trails. If you're looking for a great and free place in the Boonton area to play, hike, jog, geocache, or bike you should come and check out the Tourne County Park. read more

A nice small park good for day hikes or picnics/BBQ's. 3 parking lots in 3 different hiking areas. Two entrances. Dog friendly, Bike friendly. Closes at dusk. Main hikes are like this: One hike goes in a loop up a hill through a beautiful stand of pines and back to the start. One goes past a brook on a botanical walk with signs posted listing all the flora and fauna. One goes past a bunch of picnic BBQ areas each privately nestled into the woods. One goes past very large old trees at the beginning, a bog/swamp and up a hill, if you keep following it will lead to a small lake where there is swimming for Boonton residents. You can walk around the lake. One goes along the ridge through the woods. There is also a baseball diamond and restrooms. It's a pretty park in a peaceful part of this upscale town. read more

This is heaven for sure! I walked for 2 hours on 3 different trails and I still didn't see everything! Little known fact: there is a gated "wildflower" area down the road off the McCaffery Road entrance that is just delightful. WARNING: BOW HUNTING AREA, EVERY DAY EXCEPT SUNDAYS. STAY ON MARKED TRAILS! Today was Sunday so I was safe and even managed to collect a bag full of acorns for making acorn flour. read more

Nice place to go for a tiny hike....I honestly haven't even explored the full area of the tourne but quick up and down the mountain is perfect for getting my dog used to being active. It's a decently steep incline but the climb, if done at a moderate pace only take 15 minutes up and down. there are other trails on the other side of the park as well, only gone about half way down those so not sure where they lead to. There's a baseball/softball area, a big field for football, or just flailing around if you desire, a picnic pavilion, a wildflower trail, and if you come up along old Boonton Ave there's another trail and an entrance to the rockaway river for canoes and such I guess. It's really a nice little gem to have so close to wear I live. Get your butts up and get active. Ain't nobody got time for being fat and lazy! read more

Great park. I just went to Thourne Park for a Memorial Day Picnic. The host reserved a picnic area in advance and purchased a permit to have alcohol. The location was shaded and there was a pavilion with plenty of tables. The grills are supplied and you just need to bring charcoal. I was really impressed how well the park is kept and there is absolutely no trash that I saw. The park supplied bags for people to take their trash with them. I took my son for a walk on one of the trails and it was so quiet and very few people. I would recommend this location for anyone trying to find a place for a family get together or similar event.
