November 10, 2025 This is a long personal story of my recent experiences at LCMC TOURO and Ochsner Jefferson Campus hospital stays with two very different outcomes. I have intentionally omitted names of Doctors involved. That information is readily accessible to those who wish to see it. My wife and I have been LCMC TOUO patients for 6 years. The medical professionals at LCMC TOURO have been friendly, professional and caring in providing for our health needs until this most recent disheartening event. Recent Event - Terry Edwards On September 17, I had a complete right knee replacement . On Saturday September 20, I experienced a severe panic attack with chest and back pain. My wife called EMS, and I was then transported to Touro ER Saturday Afternoon: Once at Touro's emergency room I underwent several tests and was evaluated with a heart attack. Early Monday Morning: A team of doctors came in to speak with me as to what they planned on doing next. It was determined that a Catheter Angiogram was to be performed. Shortly after that determination a lady came in and reviewed a document with me explaining the three possible outcomes of the test; nothing would be done, stents, open heart surgery. I signed the document and she left. The Catheter Angiogram procedure was performed. I was awake during the procedure. My personal cardiologist very briefly casually spoke to me just before procedure began. I did not see or talk to my personal cardiologist again during my entire hospital stay. Why? He was my cardiologist for six years. So truly sad! When I was returned to room recovering from Catheter Angiogram several persons spoke to me. I do not remember exactly what was said except the mention of open heart surgery. I do remember my reply was NO, I would get a second opinion. My wife was physically in my room during my hospital stay from Saturday late afternoon to Monday afternoon, except Saturday and Sunday late nights. She did not arrive on Monday until about 1030 AM , after team doctors spoke to me about my condition and their proposed treatment plan. My wife was never contacted by a doctor treating me. Not once did any team doctor inform her of my status or what medical treatment was recommended. No doctor spoke to her until Monday afternoon on my discharge day. Monday, Discharge : On Monday afternoon I waited for a doctor to be discharged. At approximately 1630 after expressing my concern to nurse to be discharged. A Cardio team doctor showed up and stated to my wife and I that the team determined that open heart surgery was their determination for treatment . We asked for hospital discharge to proceed. At approximately 2000, I was actually wheel chaired to my waiting car. Discharge Documents: My discharge documents , What's Next stated follow up with my primary doctor. Why not my established cardiologist? I did schedule an appointment with my primary doctor. She reviewed the TURO hospital team findings and showed me the several vain blockages on computer screen. She instructed me to contact my cardiologist. I scheduled an appointment with my cardiologist. The earliest I could see him was 25 days . Really!!! My TOURO Doctor Evaluation: I fully understand that life saving decisions are based on known facts, and level of experience of doctors providing medical treatment. I also fully understand that one team of doctors may believe what is the right treatment another team may disagree. That is why I as an 82 year old male in moderate good health wanted a second opinion. Open heart surgery for an 82 old at best presents many serious challenges and serious life threatening conditions. And at best, a long anguishing recovery time. I also understand communication between patient and their treating doctors is paramount to insure success for treatment. That did not happen with my treatment at LCMC Touro. Treatment at Ochsner Jefferson Campus: On October 27, I was admitted to Oshsner Jefferson Campus for heart related issues. The attending medical team requested my heart photos from LCMC Touro. After reviewing heart vein photos, the lead Cardiac surgeon determined that three heart stents were required for treatment. Three stents were inserted into damaged vane areas. I was discharged from hospital one day after stents were inserted into damaged areas my vanes. In summary: Disappointed, is my evaluation of my treatment at TORO. Perception is reality in the eyes of the beholder! The questions I ask myself. Was my established Cardiologist involved in my treatment? If not, why not? Why did I not personally see my established cardiologist my entire hospital stay? He knew my medical history best. Why was my medical condition explained to my wife not until discharge day? Was my age of 82 and medical condition history evaluated prior to diagnosis for open heart surgery? After being discharged from hospital why did I not receive a wellness check call from my cardiologist or his representative? read more

"Where babies come from!" Of course, I didn't make my decision for birthing preference solely based on a catchy slogan. This review is from my experience at Touro Birthing Center in October 2023. The team at Touro Birth Center is known for their expertise, compassion, and commitment to providing personalized care to each patient. I visited the birthing center early on in my pregnancy to ensure the facility met my needs of a having a calming birthing atmosphere. Touro offers just that, a comfortable and home-like environment. I couldn't have been happier with the care I received from midwives(Heather, Sarah, Tisha), nurses (Samantha,Erin) and OB Dr. Tara Morse. I couldn't have asked for a more skilled, compassionate, and supportive team to deliver my baby. The center is equipped with advanced technology and amenities/resources(spacious single rooms, birthing tubs, peanut/exercise balls, postpartum essentials, individual mom and baby nurses, doula support, lactation consultants). The Touro Birth Center also emphasizes family-centered care, encouraging the involvement of partners and loved ones in the birthing process which was comforting to me. I love Touro Hospital, however they can trash the Chick Fil A restaurant, that's located Inside of Touro Cafe'. I wanted a Cobb salad first off, they didn't have any. So I get the chicken sandwich with Mac n Cheese. The sandwich looks like it was very old. The bread was hard, and chicken breast was horrible. I recently had a cardiac procedure at Touro. I can't say enough nice things about the Nurses, Techs, and entire Staff. Everyone involved in my care was beyond helpful, friendly, supportive and attentive. I would like to personally thank the Nurses who took care of me during my procedure and recovery: Elizabeth, Barbara, Jane, Caitlyn, Colby, Emily, and Patient Transporter Broshawn. Dr. Charles C. Smith and Dr. Dedric Clarke are stellar in Primary Care and Electrophysiology. I should also mention that I've had 2 babies and several other surgeries and treatment at Touro over the last 45 years. Listen to the patient Intake never told me their names. A man and a woman. They were both asking me questions while also chatting. I was asked why I was there and explained that I had gone to urgent care for an issue that had been ongoing explained what it was. While the UC they took my BP and Blood sugar were both high and concerning they felt based on everything going on I should go to the ER. So here I was upset being asked questions by two ppl at once. I teared up not feeling well and overwhelmed. The female the PA suggested I should see a psychiatrist. ???? Went back Blood work was done. An iv was hooked up and a dose of nausea medication was added. I was in pain and not nauseated at the time After a five hour experience of being given an IV 1(bag) in a chemo like treatment room and a pill to lower my BP they said I was doing fine I could be released. At that point I feel exactly the same as when I walk into the UC. I go outside sit on the ground crying waiting for my Taxi home. Realizing I can't function. I go back in side. The PA comes to talk to me (the PA) I tell her I'm still feeling just as awful as when I got there that I'm still in pain shaking and that something was wrong with me. (I was verbally advised to start a bland diet and follow up with the clinic on my discharge papers along with my pC. The clinic was for mental health. ) i asked for a supervisor (I'm sitting in waiting area crying in pain. She eventually comes out. Stated that they treated you for why you said you were here, we could re admit you but there would only be like one test we could run. At that point I was treated like I was drug seeking. It is two days later I feel exactly the same. The report posted to the medical portal does not reflect my visit. No results for one of the tests. And falsely stating things that weren't done. Also full history never taken. As I've explained my experience to a few friends they say they have had similar experiences. I don't use the ER like a PC. It wasn't my choice to go to an ER the urgent care sent me. I have been to a number of hospitals in NO over the years, none of them including the UMC and have new felt so mistreated. read more

So today started out ok until I started feeling a numbing sensation on my left side. I took 2 low dose Bayer and my BO medicine and went about my day feeling ok. I even went bike riding. Such a beautiful day. As the day progressed I began to feel bad again and I decided to visit my birth place, "Tour Infirmary".... Talk about great advice, awesome medical Experts and attentiveness. There were a few growls for my decision to drive myself to ER and of course eating all day to hit the ER but I am here now. I figured this is where I was born and there is no better place for me to die. Well, they would not let me die and I am ok. Thank you Touro's team of experts. From what my friends have told me this place is awesome. The nurses & doctors are kind, very caring, and helpful. My friends & I came to NOLA to just relax. Well, I had a vision issue where my vision completely whited out, & my friends husband had a hard blip. Not a HA, but his heart was not doing well. So, he went into the ER & they kept him. That's what they do with us heart problem people. So, he will be having a procedure done on Monday. Well, because we were unable fabulous little Air B&B, my friend needed to find new accommodations. The nurses & security helped her out. She will be staying in the nurses area until her husband can travel back to Texas. Her husband is from NOLA. So, as he said he wanted to visit home. Visiting my grandmother on Thanksgiving the entrance to the hospital on the 3rd floor is closed. I'm handicapped, so I called the security team and all they continued to say is the entrance is closed. I had to use my rescue inhaler while traveling the longer distance to get to my grandmother. Along the way I felt like I was going to pass out. Thank God I didn't. I think it's ridiculous that that entrance is ever closed. I was in touro Senior care jan 1st thru 4th. Mon. and Tue. was great. Wed staff came in 8am raised both bed rails and said Confined Bed and left. 11am I called nedded go bathroom had call aat 12 20 somecame1125. once thru bed rails put back had to do same thing later. night i gave up going held in pain. at 8am thrusday 4th they came ask why rails up and tech asked why I told her that wed they said I was confined bed she said not and put rails down within 2hours told i was being discharged didnt see DR. Saw Dr on tues. I been going touro since 2009 . but after this will not. I called Patient experience # 4 x 2 on thursday 1x friday and at 8:15 am Mondwy just get recording leave message they call back. So far no call back. First time using Touro's services in about 28 years. Unfortunately, I suffered a scare a couple of nights ago in which the EMTs had to be called out. I'm hypoglycemic and was experiencing abdominal pain in addition to shivers as a result of me feeling so cold. It was an uncontrollable and overwhelming feeling of coldness that I shivered more as time passed. In addition to this, I have Lupus, Leukemia, MGUS, Sjogren's Syndrome amongst other debilitating illness which is additional reason for concern. 1. The dispatcher insisted on saying that I was having a seizure despite my family and I communicating that it was not the case. 2. Paramedics came and immediately assumed I was having a seizure which was not the case. 3. I was asked about allergies but never about medications. I volunteered information without being asked. 4. In the ambulance, I was asked an additional 3 times if I'm a diabetic and each time I said no. The paramedic proceeded to ask me if I'm taking diabetic medication. I replied by telling him that I don't take insulin or any type of diabetic medication because I am NOT a diabetic, I'm hypoglycemic which means I suffer from low blood sugar counts. (Implicit bias?) 5. I arrived at the hospital and saw that the system had my married name which had been changed over 10 years ago after my divorce. I was told that my sister had already communicated that and they were working on it. Later on, I saw that it still hadn't been changed but that was for naught. In my mind, it would make sense to have all of my documents correct especially since I have medical insurance and a driver's license with my actual birth name on it. My insurance has to cover the cost and I am the person paying for my insurance every other week. If I need medication, my name needs to match my prescription. It's a no brainer. I later realized that they never updated my last name in the system until I called today. 6. I asked for something for pain because of the terrible headache and abdominal pain. I asked a second and a third time until I decided to leave it alone. No one ever addressed it until my mom asked when the nurse came in to discharge me. My mom was told that I could take Tylenol or ibuprofen. Why did the nurse or doctor have to wait until they were asked a fourth time to say they weren't going to give me anything for the pain? (implicit bias?) 7. Today I'm finally feeling like me again and I proceeded to read my After Visit Summary which states that my reason for visit was loss of consciousness...I never lost consciousness. I stated that I ALMOST passed out. Nausea is one of the diagnoses...I never complained about having nausea. 8. I read over the lab tests that were completed and I see that a drug screening was performed which is most likely the reason they didn't want to give me anything for the pain. The two medications that I mentioned to the paramedics were: a) Tylenol #3 and b) Pregablin I offered to inform them of these medications because it's important that they know. If this is the reason they decided to test me for drugs, they should've asked me about it, communicated their concerns, and I would've been as transparent and honest as I'm being now. (Implicit bias?) Once upon a time, I thought highly of this hospital and its staff. My niece recently had her baby at Touro and had a traumatic experience. Unfortunately, today, I have very different view of Touro Hospital and some of its staff. Dear Touro, Please hire an outside consultant to develop, implement, and monitor a strict policy against implicit bias, racism, and discrimination. I sent the following to Touro directly, hoping for a phone call to discuss and I received no response. So, it's time to share our experience with the Touro Emergency Room with others who may consider going there for help. Beware as they do not take your safety seriously. On Wednesday, July 14th around 1:30 pm, I was instructed by my husband's oncologist to take him to the Touro ER as he was extremely weak, had trouble walking, and other issues. I want to make it clear that I understand the enormous pressures our healthcare service providers are under and I respect them tremendously (my mother and a dear friend were both nurses). I also understand that, considering what's going on in the world today, a hospital may not have available beds. So my compassion goes out to all. And, in general, the staff at Touro Infirmary have always been wonderful. However, I take issue with the ER staff as they seemed to consider my husband's safety a low priority. His doctors decided to run a myriad of testing (to be expected) and decided to admit him overnight. For close to two hours, we sat in a room with no bathroom, no water, and no way to contact the front desk except for me leaving my husband alone to find someone to help us. My husband urgently needed to go to the bathroom, so I quickly walked to the nurses' station where everyone seemed pretty relaxed, just sitting around and chatting. But someone did come and help take the leads off and IV off him so I could help him to the bathroom. They also provided a single Styrofoam cup of water that did not last very long. After sitting until 4:00 or so, he was taken for an MRI and I ran home to get his cancer meds since he'd need them for an overnight stay. When I got back, he had just returned to his room and, shortly thereafter, a meal was brought to him. At this point (probably around 5:00 or 5:30), I was exhausted and thought I'd go home to feed the cat and get some sleep as I had to be back to the hospital early the next day. But before I left, I was told there were still no beds available for him. So I said maybe I'll take him home and was told it was not a good idea. So I left thinking, he's in a hospital that's supposed to be taking care of him; I shouldn't worry. A little after 8:00 pm he called me extremely upset. He was not given any way to contact the nurses' station and no one was checking in on him. I was very surprised that he was still in the ER. He had no water, he was not connected to any machines (that I'm aware of), and he was still very weak. Going to the bathroom would have been very dangerous with no assistance. So I called the nurses' station telling them I was coming to get him. Of course, I got an argument but I insisted. In the best interests of a patient, it seems to me if there are no beds available to admit them, they should be allowed to go home if there are clearly no "near-death" issues. To leave an elderly man alone in the way they did is completely irresponsible. Then to argue with me because I wanted to take him home is nonsensical. If they can't take care of him, why shouldn't he come home? Again, I understand the pressures of hospital staff and I understand that beds in the hospital are scarce. But it is not appropriate to neglect an elderly man that is obviously having mobility issues? And, neglect is exactly what was prescribed by the ER staff on this day. read more

I was admitted twice I'm not going to lie they have good Doctors but once you get to the 8th floor you are your own my experience yesterday with a RN named D'Juan I was neglected by the Tech all day and her name was Davelon I'm sure if I spelled her name correctly but anyway I was already upset with my treatment from the tech but to turnaround and to be abused by a RN I only asked him to reposition me mine you I had asked twice but long story short I raised my voice mind you I never used vulgar language but he walked out the room told me he refused to be talked to that way all I asked for was to be moved up the lady Mellisa she witnessed everything she even tried to reposition me but she a small older lady but mind you I'm bedbound I'm supposed to be turned every 2hrs anyway but I stood in that position until next shift started the the next tech name Latasha bath me and reposition me and the nurse Carolyn was superb and Megan is a good nurse also but they work at night but other than that I would monitor any loved one that's on the 8th floor my room was T839 and this incident happened 12/19/22 and my name is PAMELA SMITH read more

It has to be mentioned, Touro Infirmary underwent a major renovation, that closed off part of the building for months. It has totally received a long overdue facelift, and it looks amazing. With more changes to come I'm sure. Touro is where I delivered both of my babies; if and ever we were living in NOLA again, and were pregnant, again, we would definitely deliver our third child here. Our L&D room was large, clean, and bright. The food was your typical hospital food. The Recovery room downsized a lot; small with dim lighting. The Labor and Delivery nurses who tended to me during my first delivery were Phenomenal!!! I was going through the worst labor pains, nobody but my mom and these ladies could talk to me. They were truly amazing and warm. Many of them mothers themselves, knew how to bring comfort to me (with crushed ice, warm blankets, constant fluctuation of the thermostat -- they were there). When their shifts were over, they kindly let me know, and introduced me to the new nurses, assuring me that I was in good hands and that they were completing filled in to my needs. The worst thing one hates to do when you are experiencing severe labor pains is explain everything to someone new. Second child, again, our overnight shift nurses were on point, recognizing the things that the earlier nurses hadn't. Like my water not being completely broken, and breaking it for me. The only problem I have, and it's not with the hospital itself, more with the OB doctor who delivered our baby, the on-call doctor whom will remain nameless, did not give me the option of having a resident deliver our baby. Unlike my doctor, who did. The nurse staff during my first pregnancy did a great job reading through and following our Delivery Plan, the second time around, they needed some reminding. Just got discharged from an endo procedure. Had the pleasure of having Tamara and Hennisha as my nurses. They were wonderful. So funny and full of knowledge. Overall amazing bedside manner and Touro is lucky to have them on their ATC team. read more

Touro Infirmary is a stellar hospital in Uptown New Orleans. I've gone to Touro a few times as a patient. My experience was wonderful. Luckily, I visited today to give a lecture to the medical staff. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The hospital is clean. In my experience, that is sometimes not the case. A nice lunch was provided. Good job Touro Infirmary. read more

I've never felt the need to write a bad review to any place before. However, after my experience with Touro, I feel like it's only fair for people to know how your staff treats their patients. I was brought to Touro by an ambulance, they asked me and my husband our hospital of preference and we made sure to answer that we wanted UMC (due to the fact that I have a 6 months coverage with UMC). Upon my request I thought that would be respected, well it didn't. I got to Touro and I was crying because the reason why an ambulance was called was exactly because I had a mental breakdown and was harming myself. They placed me in the hall until a room was being provided, I waited, of course crying because I had a breakdown and was unstable and scared. But not, at any moment I was rude or acted with violence, even because I'm a tiny 5'2 girl. Then they placed me in this white room with only one bed, not a single pillow, and a blanket (if you can call that a blanket). I was crying nonstop because first: I didn't know if they let my husband know I was transfered to another hospital, second because the staff was extremely mean and not at all thoughtful, they would ignore my questions and be sarcastic. The male nurse who took my blood made such a bad job that my arm is bruised very bad and till this moment it hurts with every movement. The female nurse or intern was extremely sarcastic and would make comments such "if you don't know his number he won't know you are here, nothing I can do" "if you keep crying they will find a way to stop you" and would leave me crying. The only nice nurse or intern that I interacted with was the one who took me to the bathroom, where also I gave a sample of my urine, which later on they told me I had an UTI. I came back to the room where they would turn off the lights and left me there crying. One of the nurses finally took my number and tried calling my husband. After that I received 1 shoot of antibiotics, and one to "calm me down". As I, still scared and in panic (I suffer from severe anxiety, agoraphobia and depression) kept crying, this female nurse showed up saying thaf if I didn't stop crying she would sedate me till they placed me in a mental hospital. I tried to argue with her and the male nurse came to calm me down and he was kind, I even asked him not to leave. She gave two more shots to sedate me and I passed out. I woke up with them moving me to an ambulance to bring me to River Oaks. My point is: it surprises me that Touro has a rehabilitation center, considering how the ER nurses/interns/doctors (wait.. I can speak about doctors cause I might have seen one in 2 seconds or less) are not prepared to handle patients suffering from mental illness. Once I was placed at River Oaks I talked to some patients who went to Touro Rehabilitation Center and they told me that not even if they had to kill themselves they would go back. Mental health is as important as physical health, and mental illness should be treated with the respect and seriousness as physical diseases are treated. Touro as a medical center should be responsible for giving their doctors, nurses and interns the proper trainement to deal with situations such as this one. I was a patient just as much as a patient with a flu is a patient. Never going back to this place, and if I didn't have to focus on myself and getting better, I would be with my lawyer suing Touro right now. read more

I have been here quite a few times over the oast year. The staff is so courteous and they always seem so happy when you start feeling better. I sort of feel like this is the hospital version of Cheers, where everybody knows your name. Emergency room waits are so short. No longer than 15 minutes if you come in our your own and if you arrive by ambulance you are instantly given a bed in the ER. When you have a mystery illness which is what I am currently dealing with they will run every test imaginable to make you feel your best. While i would never want to wish anyone to go to a hospital, I would definitely say go here. read more

I was sent here for excruciating abdominal and back pain after first going to an Urgent Care Clinic near by. My first experience was with the security guard, who yelled at me for coming in and asking where to park. The wait was short and I was admitted quickly after driving 7 round-about stories to the top of a parking garage. Ultimately, I wanted two things from this visit: answers and pain relief. I got neither. Once settled, I asked many questions trying to become comfortable with the situation and with the nurse. Both the doctor (Arrillaga) and nurse were extremely condescending, sarcastic, and far more focused on the patient next door (and by door, I mean small, cold cubicle separated by a curtain) After the first dose of meds, that didn't work and me in tears for an hour, they tried something else. Still no relief, no answers. An hour later they give me a shot that is intended to do the same thing the other medicines could not do. When this didn't work, I got dosed with morphine which brought temporary and minimal pain relief, but not answers. When we got the diagnosis, "a virus," they put me on fluids. I had many questions about the virus and how or why it was affecting me like it was- how long I should expect it to. The nurse would leave to "go find answers" and would come back with absolutely nothing. He would actually then just avoid my questions and concerns completely. I'm leaving with a prescription for the first of four medicines they tried, which clearly did not work (and which I have found no indication is related to treatment of a virus). After confirming this with the nurse, and agreeing that it was not a successful treatment the first time, he just said "well yeah, that's just what you're getting." No answers and no relief. Instead frustrated, embarrassed, infuriated, and still in pain. The whole experience was incredibly uncomfortable. When I asked for water (to wash an ill taste medicine down) the nurse replied "I can look and get you a little but not a lot." I wasn't asking for a lot, i wasn't asking for a liter of Fuji mountain-spring-island water. I just needed a glass. There was no need to specify. When I asked for a pillow, he said they didn't have any (no pillows?) but would get a blanket for me to roll up. He never did this either. The fact is, they were completely unattentive, biased, and unconcerned. I could care less about the pillow but the lack of follow-through was a fine example of the lack of care. I can deal just fine with a loud, obnoxious, man peeing his pants next door, curtains that don't close, and uncomfortable beds. What I cannot deal with is the disrespect and ultimate failure to effectively do their job. I will be writing letters to the administration and voicing my concerns elsewhere. Go somewhere else. *UPDATE* I went directly to my regular physician afterwards, who immediately suggested an ultrasound to check for gallstones. GALLSTONES, everyone. Sure enough, they were right. Touro couldn't even (didn't care?) to figure that out-- a virus?? Really? Get out. read more

My visit started in the ER. My wait into the ER was fairly quick. Probably not more than 15 minutes. After examining me, they decided that I needed to stay longer and moved me upstairs was pretty quickly. The doctors and nurses that I saw were very quick and efficient. I am annoyed that I charged for a "seeing" the doctor on call. I saw him once. He came in and asked me how I was doing, and that was it. No physical exam or anything else. I didn't even see him when I was discharged. The food that they serve is not good at all. Everything that they served was very oily. Some one from nutrition serves even told me that the food was cooked in LARD. As someone who is diabetic, I have to be very careful with what I eat. Serving me a plate of pasta and bread is not a healthy meal. I don't care how many calories it has, it is not part of my recommended diet. I spoke to nutrition services and the diabetic counselors about it. They insisted that they were serving me appropriate food because it was the correct amount of calories for me to consume. They did not understand that there is a difference between calories and carbs for a diabetic. I would choose a different hospital if I ever needed to go to the hospital again. read more

I had my son here August 27, 2014 and it was an ok experience. I really hated that I didn't have a personal doctor and there were like a million and one people checking on me. Creepy!!!!! The ER exam rooms are separated by curtains. This allows one to hear what's going on with other patients. Not pleasant. Not comfortable. Not Private. Intimate conversations between family members. Moans. Groans. Cries. The patient behind curtain number 1 is a girl with some sort of pustules. The girl is frightened and crying. Why do I have be subjected to the play by play. This is absolutely unnerving! The Doctor comes and says he's going to numb it and it won't hurt that much. Her brain disagrees and she starts with a whimper and ends up screaming. Then it's time to lance that thing that I imagine is as big as jicama. "Whoa that's a lot of puss!" "Jesus!" "Now we are going to pack it" Is this really happening? Behind curtain number 2 is a man with a persistent cough. Does someone have a cough drop? For fox sake! Hope he is not contagious. He's prescribed an inhaler, antibiotics and steroids. How do I know? Because I can hear every word and bodily function through this thin curtain. Is there no privacy? Apparently not. Because now that it's our turn the question and answers are heard by the guy who has a sore throat and should quit smoking, the granny who fell down and hit her face and got a nose bleed,( Is her nose broke? No.) and the girl with a toothache who is prescribed antibiotics and advised to go to a dentist. Thanks Obama! J/K On a second visit (don't ask) I have a private room. I can assume they were very busy on that first visit and that bigger room is the overflow. Very professional and thorough. I was in and out in less than three hours. read more

Having a baby? Go here. I did my OB rotation here and it was amazing. I loved the well baby nursery, the NICU, and all of their doctors, nurses, and staff. They even have good cafeteria food! The rooms are state of the art and they even offer special rooms for those considering more natural birthing options. Water birth? There's a special tub for that. If you go with Touro, you won't be sorry. Did I mention their classes? They're free. We were required to attend two, and they were very informative. The classes are helpful for anyone who is thinking about getting pregnant or if you're currently raising a child. They really do have a million different types of classes. Several issues after surgery: 1. They jammed an IV needle in my left hand. It failed in the middle of the night, infiltrating, with continuous burning when the pain meds were added. Had surgery in early December and to this day the vein is still swollen and is painful. Note that two IVS were started by Ochsner emergency room nurse (see why, below, I had to go to emergency room TWICE IN LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER SURGERY!) in the small of my elbow AND I DIDN'T FEEL A THING GOING IN, coming out, With no after effects! 2. The catheter they inserted during surgery was bothering me so I asked to have removed. Enough blood came out of my bladder making it look like I ruptured something. Poorly installed? Yes! 3. I stop urinating two days after the catheter was removed and had to go to the emergency room. A great deal of pain. Lots of blood came out with my urine when a new catheter was inserted. Pain was gone as I was able to urinate. A negative culture resulted so touro can't blame infection. Apparently someone on Touro's staff was in a rush and was negligent. Perhaps it's because I am a Medicare patient (I did see that they did not get as much as they charged!!)?? I had to go back to the emergency room for the same bladder malfunction as well as making a visit, with catheter and bag in hand, to a urologist. 4. In my opinion Touro is a worn out hospital with 20th century processes. I plan to sue. You only have to have your bladder clogged with blood once, not being able to urinate for more than 24 hours, to know real pain and suffering! read more

My boyfriend had to go to the emergency room because he has third degree burns on his hand. There was no wait when we entered and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly during check in. Once he was admitted into the room the doctor and nurses came in almost immediately. They were very nice and really took their time when looking at his hand. They let us know things about the burn that the other emergency rooms did not. They really cared about the problem and how to correct it unlike East Jefferson, they treat you like pure trash there. If this location is relatively close to where you live I would recommend coming here instead of anywhere else! read more

I am a physician and after researching the various options for my wife who needed total hip replacement surgery.....one name kept coming up on top - Dr. Richard Meyer. He specializes in the anterior approach - (which he teaches other orthopedists about) - and has many years of experience in this technique. My wife had surgery (3 months ago) at Touro - which has an amazing hip and spine surgery program. She got the very best team approach to her care at Touro. She felt like she was in a boutique/private hospital that was super clean and followed all the Covid precautions. The same day of surgery, she was walking and going up stairs. Now she is has been getting around very well, riding her bike and is ready to start back playing tennis. Dr. Meyer's office folks are super helpful and have made this an amazingly successful medical experience. My wife has her life back and we couldn't be more thankful to Dr. Meyer, his staff, and Touro Infirmary. read more

Super great staff + fast and efficient = Great place to go when you have to So i had to go to Touro for an emergency out patient procedure and can i just say that everyone I encountered was amazing. It was the end of the day on a Friday so everyone was getting ready to leave when I walked in. They were all really helpful and caring and I never felt judged or like I was a burden because of bad timing. Dr Paul and the One Day Surgery Center staff were all amazing and if they were there when I woke up I would have told them so. I would not come here for a bandaid!!!!!!!!! The staff is totally incompetent (not talking about the doctors, but everyone under them). I moved away a few years ago, but my family has been living in nola for over 100 years and going to Touro for more years than I've been alive. My father has currently been in and out of Touro for the past few weeks and the care that he has received is embarrassing. Everyone is nice, friendly, and caring in nature, but the competency is not there. After breakfast, lunch, dinner- the food and plates aren't cleared away for HOURS even after asking. Should he unhook his IV and put them in the kitchen himself? When the patient sharing his room checked out last week, his food trays weren't cleared away or bed changed for over 24 hours. The doctor has put my father on a low salt food regimen, yet in this hospital they have been serving him PORK SAUSAGE for breakfast and PORK CHOP for lunch every day. And he is Jewish (does not eat pork). Touro is completely unsanitary and disgusting. My grandmother and many family members have received the same pathetic care in years past. I actually think they helped put her in the ground. Nothing has changed. I think they're trying to give people heart attacks, diabetes, and infections to keep them in their care for longer and collect more $$$. My advice to anyone reading this: go to Ochsner. read more

Excerpts of complaint filed with State and Joint Commission - Following my surgery at Touro Ambulatory Surgery Center on 17 Sep 2019 (time was approximately 13:00), the first thing I remember is being shaken by someone...As soon as I had my eyes open and began to stir, a female nurse began telling me...she couldn't get a hold of...my ride. I was still groggy and trying to understand everything. The nurse said that she'd tried to call the telephone number that I'd given them, and the person that answered said there was no one named "S." there. I suggested that the number may have been taken down wrong... The same nurse took out my IV and bandaged my wrist...I said that I was going to get my clothes and then look at my cell phone to check for another telephone number...and took off my blood pressure monitor... The nurse...became agitated and...asked what I was doing;...she grabbed my left arm possibly to try and restrain me. I restated that I was going to put my clothes on and look for...a ride in my phone and...stated multiple times that I needed privacy. The nurse...refused to give me privacy...I said that I was getting up anyway. The nurse started freaking out and...grabbing curtains. I got...my clothes bag which contained my telephone. I gave the nurse a number to call...He (P.) declined to come to the hospital...I said that I didn't have another ride and hadn't said anything about leaving yet anyhow. Another female staff member with glasses (Robin) appeared...with a more volatile manner than the nurse had. This person actually came and snatched my clothes bag out of my hand to try and take it from me and began telling me, "No! You can't have that. You don't get to have those." As she wrestled with me over my personal belongings, she also said something about holding me on another floor so that I couldn't leave. I told the woman to take her hands off me and my belongings and that she had no business treating me in that manner. She aggressively said that I couldn't leave the hospital...I stated that I was putting on my clothes. After the aggressive violation of my personal space and further uncivil tones from (Robin), she grabbed a telephone...and began...calling for security "stat." I asked where the bathroom was and went to urinate...I was surrounded by a crowd of people including no less than three armed officers (the officers were Bruce Jackson, A. Dowell and one other man that was seemingly Caucasian with glasses and a mustache who was overweight and wore a blue blazer). Another blonde female staff member (Jeanne?) had arrived and joined in the aggressive...behavior toward me stating that, "If you leave right now Mr. Hudson, your insurance won't pay for this and you have to pay the whole bill."...I also stated that I had never voiced an intention to leave and made that clear multiple times. Robin...started telling the crowd that I had taken my IV out. I...rebutted that the original nurse had done that; the same nurse who took the IV out...confirmed what I said. I stated that my personal space had been violated...especially by Robin...I said that she was...one of the people that aggressively violated my space...Robin stood and shook her head. I asked her...why she was lying...NOPD Officer A. Dowell tried to turn everything back on me and asked, "Why are you being so argumentative?...Maybe you shouldn't speak" (...official oppression is...a good thing for a patient to not have to deal with...). I...made it clear...that my actions hadn't started...that situation and...I...didn't deserve to be treated in that manner...in the chaos, someone called for Dr. Ewing to come...he...apologized to me...and began stating...that he didn't understand how the situation got to that point. The blonde...staff member (Jeanne?) stepped forward to start...falsely stating that I had given them a name of someone who didn't exist. I...said, "A person dials a telephone number and doesn't get the person they're supposed to on the other end of the line...by this logic, you're suggesting that I gave you the name of a person that doesn't exist?..." Dr. Ewing asked the crowd, "If I can get him out of here will that be alright with you?" They seemed to be agreeable. Dr. Ewing...asked me, "What if I use my Uber account to call a car to bring you somewhere? ..." I told Dr. Ewing that I'd gladly accept...Though I asked for someone from administration...I was never presented with any such person nor any patient advocate. At no time, did any of the people involved introduce themselves to me clearly and state their position at Touro...when I asked for Officer Dowell's name, he merely pointed at his uniform...stated sarcastically, "It's right there." Robin...had the nerve to dance...around like a child trying to cover her name tag when I asked for her name. Robin flat out refused and told me, "I don't have to give you that information."...No person or their family should ever have to be subjected to such...denial of dignity read more

i am far from impressed with this hospital. i am a surgical technician and worked a week in the operating rooms, and i honestly lost count in the amount of of breaks in sterility i witnessed. there doesn't seem to be much of a conscience from the staff. sterility is NOT an option when it comes to operating / patient care. i genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has had surgery here. on the last day that i worked there, the charge nurse told me there wasn't any surgeries for me to scrub in on..... (there was actually 28 surgeries that morning, but i digress) so she sent me to a room, which i believe was a post-op area, where i had absolutely NO business being in. upon arrival i was asked to take patients' vitals. i explained that as a surgical technician i am NOT trained in doing so. even still, i was asked twice more to take vitals, and then to "just go take his temperature". granted, there isn't much room for error in taking somebody's temperature, but i had already explained that i was not trained nor certified to be taking patients vitals. i have no idea why i was sent to this room to begin with, instead of doing my job, which is being in the operating room. i could see the concern in the patients faces wondering why on earth i'm in this room yet have no idea what i'm supposed to be doing. i contacted the charge nurse and left. side note: i found out my friends mom got an ORIF on her ankle here in 2011 and is still regularly suffering from pain and infections. the screws in her ankle are visible to the naked eye....... absolutely not how it's supposed to be. i'm curious how this hospital is running with the errors that i've seen. i would never recommend anyone come to this hospital to have surgery done. read more

I consider what they charged me to be healthcare fraud. I have to have the same outpatient procedure every year. It takes no more than 5 minutes. Usually my insurance is billed no than $3000 for this procedure. Touro charged my insurance over $14,000 with me holding the bill for $2000. Go some where else unless you like being over charged for substandard care. read more

Coming from Houston, which is the Mecca for medical care, I was very rudely awakened to what emergency rooms are probably like everywhere last night. Just to preface, I'm 24 yrs. old living on her own for the first time away from my family who live in South Texas. I went alone in an Über to the Touro Infirmary at the insistence of my mother who lives 10 hours away. Last night, I woke up to chest pains. I knew it wasn't a heart attack, but I was having trouble going back to sleep and catching my breath. My Über driver was skeptical of taking me to Touro, but I just wanted the pain to go away/make sure my heart wasn't failing. Check in was quick. I waited all of five minutes before I was called. The older male nurse that greeted me wasn't super friendly, but it was 2 AM. Another younger male nurse was waiting for me in a tiny little unit closed off by a curtain. Quickly, they told me that they were going to do an EKG to rule out a heart attack. Everything was happening so fast, which I understand given the presumption of my illness. I had to take off my shirt and bra in front of two strangers with the unit screen partially open to passerby. It was very uncomfortable having two men present while I was topless and receiving care. They did have a nightshirt for me but it was lifted up to my neck, so it didn't provide much coverage. I'm not one for emergency room visits. All I have to compare Touro to is the care I've had at Memorial Methodist Hospital and the 24-Hr. Urgent Care under Hermann Memorial (both times after I fell on my ankle). In comparison to those facilities, Touro is a low-quality hospital. However, I've heard the medical centers in Louisiana are, on average, sub par. My doctor was friendly enough, and the female nurse who accompanied him was helpful enough. I had to ask 100 questions though to understand the treatment I was receiving. Normally, even in a packed emergency room in the Houston Medical Center, doctors walk a patient thru treatment. Overall, everyone just seemed very laissez-faire about the whole ordeal. What rubbed me the wrong way was the older male nurse seemed to chide me for suffering from anxiety and stress at the age of 24. When I explained I was completing my first year of law school, he rolled his eyes and said, "That's not a good excuse." Well, I'm sure medical school/training wasn't a carefree walk through the park. Stress happens and mental illness (such as anxiety) isn't something to brush off flippantly. Furthermore, it made me feel silly, and I was already vulnerable (being shirtless and alone). Also, only being separated by a flimsy partition from the rest of the ER subjected me to the sounds of patients suffering (and the sights). The cotton sheet that covered the exam table I was on had holes in it and the nightgown was frayed. Would it be frivolous, or even possible, to request to be airlifted back to Houston if I ever (knock on wood) need medical attention again? read more

I called Touro earlier this week to schedule an appointment as a new patient as my husband and I are ready to conceive. I had my first child at Ochsner Baptist and my OBG was out of town so the experience was ok but I kept hearing commercials on the radio about what an exceptional experience it would be to give birth at Touro so I wanted to try something new. When I called the main line, the operator answered and I told her the reason for my call. She was very short with me replying that "this is the operator. I'll transfer you to the correct person." Once transferred, the receptionist was unbelievably short with me, often times talking over me before I could finish my sentence. When I told her I was a new patient, she cut me off, "Date of birth?" Ummmm, ok. Are staff that much in a rush that you can't be courteous? A new patient? I made an appointment but am canceling. That left a bad taste in my mouth. The check-in was short and easy, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Everyone there does everything to make you feel at ease. It was an emergency visit, so I was there for maybe 4 hours total. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more

I have no complaints about the medical care I received for nasty case of strep throat. Doctors were very sharp and nurses were kind. However, the billing department is totally incompetent and lazy. Due to the dysfunction of the billing department, I would never go back to Touro. read more

I had a wonderful birthing experience here for my second baby back in 2015 with the midwife Tisha Seghers. The staff was very polite and the food was amazing! Better than what I had had at Ochnser when I gave birth to my first baby. I loved the celebratory cake from Maurice's Bakery. Overall I will definitely be back here if and when I do get pregnant again! read more
