Shortly afterwards I was put into the background process with a private investigator named Stephen Clifford who ran his own investigative firm. I turned in a bunch of documents as requested. About a month later I received a letter from Calaveras HR stating I was no longer being considered. Mr. Clifford did not even conduct any kind of background investigation. He contacted a few references and that was it. I never even fingerprinted for their department yet a complete background was completed. What a shady investigative firm, I believe the Chief hired his personal friend to do the investigative work. Very unprofessional and totally wasted my time. I would not recommend anyone to apply for work in Calaveras county.

Now I have an ARREST record, for the rest of my life, for "being under the influence of a controlled substance," even though proven innocent. I'm a 52 year old teacher! I have contacted them twice, but since my case is "closed" (for them), they will not let me talk to the d.a. I have contacted everybody I can think of to get the law changed so this doesn't happen to anybody else. It has affected my employment. I googled the cop and there he is, getting an award from MADD, for 100 ARRESTS last year. Yea, but how many were guilty? It should be an award for CONVICTIONS! If you actually think you are innocent until proven guilty, you are sorely mistaken. It could be you, next time. Trust me. There's no common sense. Cop looked 12 years old and trying to make a name for himself. The form letter I received stating "lack of evidence" looked like it had been copied 5,000 times and contained wrong information. Obviously, I'm not the only one in Calaveras County that this has happened to. I had to get correct info from my lawyer (which also cost me $2500, which is nothing compared to the devastation and embarrassment this has caused me. I have not applied for things that I have wanted to, including volunteer work in the community, because I know this will show up. Even though no conviction, an arrest is almost as bad, to the general public. They couldn't care less about the innocent people they leave in their wake. They just go on to the next thing. I am almost afraid to even write this for fear of retaliation.

Normally when you call a government building (not Calaveras talking about others) you don't often get pleasant people, however Karen went above and beyond the call of duty to answer all of my questions. A great place to spend an afternoon in San Andreas! It's located not a quarter mile off Hwy 49 in the newer section of quaint San Andreas with all of the amenities of a major modern library... ample parking, internet access, newspapers and periodicals, a wonderful children's reading and play area, and a fantastic Friends of the Library sale room. The staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly assisting with everything from searches, book orders, and even extra time on the computers if time allows. Speaking of computers, internet reception in this mountainous region of the Sierra Foothills isn't great, spotty at best and this library provides numerous computers with reliable dedicated connections for the use of members and registered visitors. The selection of books is good with a larger focus on young readers, fiction, and crafts but books may be ordered from other libraries in the county for free or from other counties for a nominal fee. My favorite area, the Book Sale room is constantly being restocked with tomes of all genres: hardback, soft cover, and collectible periodicals in good to new condition and at great prices. Often bags and bags of unsorted books will be stacked against the walls for the die-hard treasure seeker. A good selection of VCRs, cassette tapes, and the occasional DVD are also available. In the hallway before the Sale room are tables stacked with freebies. Comfortable seating arrangements are available throughout the main room offering quiet socializing or private reading. Large conference rooms are also available for meetings, gatherings, and lectures. For convenience, the bathrooms are large and pristine, located both in the library proper and in the hallway within the building preceding the library itself. The lobby carries pamphlets, brochures, and information on current events and services offered in the county and local area. Besides all these great services, there are boxes and bags near the building's entrance of magazines for all readers, most of which are current. Take as many as you want! If you live or visit the San Andreas area and in need of a good read, computer access, a place to bring the kids, or just to while away the time, the main Calaveras County Library is an ideal place to spend the day. I highly recommend it!

I order gifts for my grandson, daughter through Amazon who live in San Andreas and the carrier is so lazy (they have a camera on their front door), they don't have mail delivery at their house but have gone in a signed paperwork so they can get packages at their house but the carrier states the house isn't accessible (they have a circular drive way)! No problems if the package is sent through UPS! This last "attempt" of my son in law's Father's Day gifts that couldn't be delivered Tuesday 9:33am because not accessible then Wednesday 1:12 pm they returned his gifts without giving her due time to get the gifts! I am writing the post master general, you are a terrible post office and give them a very bad name!

Last week I had a very unpleasant experience at the DMV on Las Positas in Pleasanton. Not only was the greeter rude, but the man at the vehicle registration was obnoxious, did not give any explanations of fees or the processes. It is worth the drive to San Andreas to get premium service! Thank you San Andreas DMV for restoring my faith in public servants.
