The Town Talk has been in business for many years and I can testify that it carries the same high-quality bakery that it did 40 years ago. I especially like their cream puffs, napoleons and cookies but their doughnuts, breads and other goods are just as good. For the best of donuts-maple bars, pershings, jelly filled, chocolate cake-my favorite-this is the bakery to see. They also have the best french bread, fin rolls and hard rolls ever. If it weren't for the awfully rude and ignorant lady that runs the cash register in the morning, I would have given this place 5 stars. The maple bars and doughnuts are the best in town, but I won't be giving this place any more business. It's not like I need the bars anyhow ;) My work place buys maple bars by the dozen at least weekly. This was my first time picking them up, and when I came back and shared my experience, everyone there said this is the norm. Had I known that this was how Town Talk ran their business, I would not have been participating in the purchase of their product all this time, and I won't be from this point on. I was told, "I don't know where you come from, but I don't do plastic." It was obvious that I was an out of towner. I told her I wasn't sure why where I'm from was an issue, but while we were on the subject, where I'm from we are polite and respectful to customers willing to pay for a product. Terrific hidden gem if you're stopping through Butte. My French grandmother stops in a few times a week for her bread, and they know her by name (well, the nicknames they have affectionately dubbed her), and welcomed us just as warmly (visiting from Colorado). Doughnuts are the best, homemade pies are perfection, and this is the only place she'll buy French bread...and believe me, it's top-notch authentic (and cheap!). Make sure to get there early; it's widely known as the best in town, and they run out of popular items by early afternoon, which should tell you how beloved and delicious their pastries and breads are. read more

Amazing baked goods that sell out early. People start lining up before the place is even open. The maple bars are beyond compare (It's hard to limit yourself to what most people would consider a reasonable number of them). This is one business that I'd like to see operating 24/7 (like Winchell's Donut Shops used to). I for one would probably weigh 20 pounds more than I do were that the case. ;) read more

We didn't have a maple bar on our first visit but I hear we should have ! We had trouble choosing what to take with us enroute to Thanksgiving dinner 2 states away. Some pastries for the road. Finn bread. A hard roll. But the WINNER was the dinner rolls. Made like you remember Grandma's being. Made in muffin tins. Tear apart perfectly. Soft, perfect texture, melt in your mouth dinner roll. Good with dinner. Great for the leftover turkey sandwich. And yummy topped with our homemade jam. Will be hard not to stop every time past Butte now. read more
