I moved here 8 years ago from NH and started off being very confused i couldn't buy my beer and wine at the grocery store... they are on my way home from work and can walk here making it very convenient, so stopped in. I found most people to be cold and un attentive down here ... and then there was this place! They alwaysss great you and i love that!! They are also so good at knowing if you need help or when to leave you alone, which is an art form. They are all knowledgeable about what they carry, when it will be in, etc. Flash forward to covid - they offer delivery, curbside and in store; which is impressive for a tiny family business! They also leave the door wide open on nice days so you don't need to touch the handles and the place gets aired out! I will be honest and they don't have the cheapest prices, but that's only to be expected in a small family business. But they treat you like an old friend even if you haven't been there before and they are always happy. I will always choose a family business and good customer service and knowledge read more

Great liquor spot right on Newport Ave in Rumford on the Pawtucket line. They have many types of beer (lots of craft and specialty brews), a decent selection of wine and a liquor aisle that's heavy with bourbons and whiskey. They also have cigar case so you can get your beer and cigar in one stop. I have found the staff to be very friendly and knowledgable and have often sought their advice when gift giving. Nice store to have close by. They lose one star for narrow aisles (tough to pass other customers when it's busy) but what they lack in space they make up for with selection. read more

They have the rare finds in both the wine and spirits. They have almost all French regions represented. The California wines are not overly marked up. They are so helpful. No sales pressure. Never condescending, and always well staffed. If it's not too busy, go ahead and ask the questions you've been curious about. I was once treated to a detailed lecture on how the availability of wines and spirits is warped by political and mob interests. Some of it is actually written into law. I have seen few shops with as good a Champagne section. The store is always clean looking and smelling. One funny story- I was doing some Christmas shopping there and I was carded (age 30 at the time) and the cashier refused to accept my California drivers license. She said "I can't take this" and just stared blankly. It's a state honey. Ya know- Hollywood, Gold Rush, earthquakes, silicone, silicon? This is my fave spot around for uncommon finds, especially craft beer. The store is a perfect size to hold a carefully curated selection of fine wines, spirits and the aforementioned selection of beer. They might not have everything you'd find at a cavernous box box booze emporium but if you don't know exactly what you are looking for, the Town Wine & Spirits staff is uber knowledgeable and will make stellar recommendations without trying to sell you the most expensive hooch in the house. Unless that's what you're looking for! Be on the look out for boutique brand samplings as well as a great selection of gift sets around the holidays. read more

I've only been here a few times, but I've been very happy with the selection of craft beer and wine. It may look small on the outside but they pack quite a large variety of items inside. Both times I've seen things that I haven't seen at other liquor stores in the area. We've gotten some great deals on the closeout rack. There's a cigar case as well, which is convenient. I've been to Town Wines a couple of times and really haven't been pleased with their selection nor their prices. As well as, it is very cramp inside and I will expand on this in a few moments. My first beef with them is their beer selection. Granted it is a small store but their selection of craft beers do not compare too the likes of other stores near by. If there is something that you really want too try chances are they won't have it. Which is a shame since craft beers are very popular nowadays. My second point is their prices. It is more expensive their, than any other store. I bought a six pack of Narragansett Del's Shandy and it cost me about a dollar or more. Too be fair, I bought my first six pack in Seekonk but it still shouldn't be that more expensive. Lastly, it is really cramp in there. When you go in there with a carriage, be really careful that you don't knock anything down. In full disclosure, I have not but I'm just saying that the aisle's are that narrow. You go to turn down one and you're praying that you don't crash into a bottle of whiskey that costs $50. That would not be good for anybody. read more

Elliot is extremely helpful in finding what consumers are looking for, within reason. TWS provides opportunities to sample and learn about the beverages. The descriptions are consistent with the liquids. The TWS emails sent are extremely thoughtful in alerting us about what is available at any given time. Honestly, I come here all the time and if it wasn't so close I wouldn't come here at all. The cashiers never know the price of the beers/over charge me (and sometimes smell of booze). Their wine and spirits section is okay, but if the wine/whiskey expert isn't there when you have a question you are SOL. The only reason I give this place 3 stars is the manager Mike who is a true gem, and down right nice guy. Until this place gets some new staff this will always be my 3-4th choice. read more

This is probably one of the best liqueur stores in Rhode Island.. There is always someone in the wine area that KNOWS all their selections & has never failed on a recommendation. Today's visit I went in looking for a nice wine to pair a meal eyes and not only did they help select but also wrapped if up in ice so it would be cold by the time I was ready to eat. For example, Double Bastard was $5.99 at Town the last time I visited and $6.49 at Nikki's. 10% off if you a mix a six and good prices even if you don't. If you're looking for that REALLY special bottle of wine for a fancy dinner, or some top-of-the-line spirits for a gift, don't go anywhere else. Town might not look like much from the outside, but you'll find as extensive a selection of wine and liquor as you could possibly want once you're inside. The staff is very knowledgeable and are great at making suggestions if you give them an idea of what you like (whether that's as specific as "I love woody, earthy, [insert wine aficionado jargon of your choice here] flavors " or as vague as "uh, I had this one wine once and it was really good? kind of sweet but not TOO sweet, you know?"). Prices can really vary - you can find stuff that's reasonably priced if you just want something to have with dinner that night, but you can also REALLY go crazy if you want to. If you tell the sales staff what kind of budget you have in mind, they'll stick to it. It's very much a generational store, in the way many Rhode Island local businesses are. For example, Town is where my dad has always bought his wine, and the owner's daughter was friends with my brother in high school - it's THAT kind of place. The kind of place where staff will greet customers with a hug and ask about their kids before helping them make a selection. You may not always be able to count on a hug as you walk through the door, but you can always count on excellent, professional service and a wide selection. read more

Excellent service and very helpful. I was looking for our cousin's Italian winery (Antonutti) wines as my mother was visiting California from England. She grew up living opposite the winery that her cousin Franco Antonutti inherited from his father in Colloredo di Prato, near Udine, Italy. Difficult to get from Italy to England it seems, but Elliott had The Pino Grigio, Friuliano (Graves), and my brother in law's favorite red wine, Refosco, in stock. Reasonable prices and shipping. They are very knowledgeable, they stock everything we have ever wanted and some we were sure they did not have so were surprised to find a sought after beer we got in VT and were told you can only get it at that bar. Walked into this store looking for regular things like some wine and bottle of rum and there it was Radler Grapefruit beer by Stiegl. WE will certainly make the 10 or so mile trip back over. read more

Fantastic store. It isn't just that they sell excellent wines - they do - but more importantly, they remember who you are and what you like so that they can make informed recommendations. It has a huge selection of wines and beer, there is liquor too but I don't do that so i was impressed to see such a huge beer and wine selection. Very cool that they have it broken down into sections of which areas the wines came from. In the mood for a cali wine head over here, feel like italian over there. Nice touch. The real reason I am writing this review is because of Micheal. Oh my goodness, if you want to talk to someone who knows there stuff about everything wine related talk to Micheal! I was returning some wine I bought earlier in the day there. I was looking for organic and missed the mark. Micheal graciously took my wine in and helped me find what I was looking for and explained the whole process of sulfites and why some wine companies get organic labels and some do not. Just an amazing selection of single malt scotches and Elliott knows so much about them and is willing to tell you all about them. When buying wine there the staff is treats me like someone buying expensive wines even though the average bottle I buy is around $12 (you've got to try the Frontier Red which is such a nice reasonably priced red blend). I'd say the price per bottle of wine may be $1 or $2 higher than some other stores but the selection, staff knowledge and just overall friendliness of the staff is worth the premium price. read more
