My brother applied to work here and got the job. He gets there for his first shift on 5/13/2026 and management and the employees were immediately incredibly rude. They: 1. Put him in a cooler with no direction of what he was doing. 2. He asked if he could get his sweatshirt, they said "no we have a jacket for you." Not entirely stupid but still? They didn't immediately supply him with one while working in the cooler? 3. He looked at his phone for the time and to check if he had a ride home (he doesn't have a car), and was immediately told "you shouldn't be doing that" by what seems to be just a regular employee. 4. This regular employee got a manager and the manager asked if he even wanted to work there, and literally said "you should just quit now if it's a waste of time." He walked out rightfully so because what else do you even do in that situation? I'm sure there are good staff here, but the staff working this Wednesday were not good.

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. She came out with a case and took bottles out to make a 6 pack for me. I thought that was generous until I got home and saw that the beer expired. I went back to the store and the person there said he had no authority to take the beer back and I would have to talk to manager. I didn't want to waste my time going back and forth so I threw it out. The store is nicely renovated, maybe they need the money to pay for renovations and that's why they are selling old beer. What else has expired? Be careful and check expiration dates before you leave the store.

They are also so good at knowing if you need help or when to leave you alone, which is an art form. They are all knowledgeable about what they carry, when it will be in, etc. Flash forward to covid - they offer delivery, curbside and in store; which is impressive for a tiny family business! They also leave the door wide open on nice days so you don't need to touch the handles and the place gets aired out! I will be honest and they don't have the cheapest prices, but that's only to be expected in a small family business. But they treat you like an old friend even if you haven't been there before and they are always happy. I will always choose a family business and good customer service and knowledge
