Husband and I just moved to town, and we enrolled our son in Piedmont Academy at Piedmont Church…read more The facility is gorgeous, so while I toured the Academy, I inquired about the church - what type of service (contemporary/traditional), music, activities, etc. We came from a young non-denom, very contemporary church south of the city that recently opened the doors at their permanent home, and we loved the passion and authenticity of it. We're looking for that same vibe up here. We finally tried Piedmont yesterday. We went to the 9:30 AM service, and we were warmly greeted by the staff. We needed to check our son into the children's environment, so they walked us to where we needed to be. The church is gorgeous - almost like a mountain lodge. We were surprised to walk in to a sparsely attended service considering the size of the auditorium, and the fact that there are two services (maybe everyone goes to the 11AM?). The music is contemporary, but not as loud as we're used to. Dr. Reighard's message was good, but it was a little long-winded for me (he went over his timer on this particular day). The preaching felt a little more traditional. Our old pastor could speak a compelling message in 30 minutes, so we've gotten to where we really appreciate something concise. After service, they were giving people the opportunity to join life groups, and we noticed there were several tables set up, so they have a large selection of life groups to join. This would be a big plus for us if we were to join. Overall, I have nothing negative to say about our experience. I'm not sure the style of preaching is what we're looking for, but it can be an amazing church home for someone who enjoys something that teeters on the contemporary/traditional line.

I have been to some establishments where when you are new and you are interesting for 2 mins and then that is it. You leave this church on a high feeling good and challenged to better certain areas of your life. They maybe small in nature compared to other churches , but they seek volumes when it comes to the important matters. I appreciate when I can't be there in person they have a video option to be live and still hear the message. I am very Thankful for this church.

The pastors are so sincerely spirit led. They are down to earth and deliver meaningful messages every week. They provide fantastic children's programs that help parents raise believers. The teens have a wonderful youth program that the pastors and volunteers poor their hearts into. The musical worship team is very joyful and passionate. We have had a wonderful experience at Town Center Community Church for the past 5 years. A couple of years ago we moved about a half hour away, but still attend. We drive past 20 churches along the way, but it is so hard to find the right church. It is definately worth the drive.

At the time, I would not have counted Hall as a purveyor of doctrinal error, but in analysing how he now is manoeuvring his own congregation, I had to visit the church on a recent visit to the United States. I must say that the pipe organ at the church is most impressive, sadly moreso than Pastor Hall's surmon. I was there for a pastors' conference a few weeks ago for the first time. Wow. What a church. I was…read moreso impressed with Midway Presbyterian Church (MPC). Here's why (not in order of importance): 1. Beautiful campus, esp., the main worship room. I've visited a lot of churches in my life: both old and new. Many old churches lack functionality/practicality. The modern ones, on the other hand, simply lack depth and theology of what a church building should be (and yes, there is theology of church building, or at least the main worship room). What's interesting about the main worship room at MPC is that it is a new building, yet feels old (in a wonderful sense). In fact, the church has a pamphlet to explain in details why they built the way they did. And that was very impressive. 2. The people who serve voluntarily. They all seemed to love the Lord, his church, and their minister. That's a sign of a healthy church. 3. Their senior minister, David Hall. It's a precious and rare commodity to find ministers that are pastor-scholar. That is perhaps one of the best gifts a church can have. Dr. Hall has written many valuable books, not only for the PCA but those of us that are outside of the denomination. His writing ministry has influenced beyond the walls of MPC, which I am a testimony. He truly exemplifies what a church statesman should look like. Not only Dr. Hall is a fine scholar and a statesman, but a personable pastor. And it's rare to find a man who can be a scholar and a personable pastor at the same time. I was impressed how he took time to meet everyone at the conference. That seldom happens at a conference, let alone at a big church. Hence, that shows that Dr. Hall cares for people, and he doesn't simply sit at the ivory tower that people can't reach. There are many other reasons, but due to time I must stop here. If you're looking for a church that genuinely wants to glorify God and to enjoy him forever, visit this church - not just once or twice (because you can't really judge a church based on a few visits). But spend time getting to know the church. If I live in the vicinity, I would do so in a heartbeat. But that's a bit difficult since I live in California. Besides, I have a group of God's people to shepherd.
