Well, as I later found out, it it because the place was where the idea of Sooty, the little yellow hand puppet who was once one of the stars of ITV, was conceived. This fact shocked and impressed me - I had no idea that Sooty came from Leeds, not least that he was invented in a chippy. Though I only discovered this after I had had some chips and scraps from Springfield, I was already impressed with the place. The service was quick, the chips were lovely and light, and had just the right amount of grease about them, and, to say its a rather celebrity chippy, the prices were right. For a chip shop to survive in the same tiny town as Harry Ramsden's, it has to be good. And this place is.

However when this has happened with other takeaways they happily (and easily) changed the delivery address but when my dad rung to do the same a woman answered and was unbelievably rude and nasty to him (who lost his dad today and this resulted in him having a nervous breakdown). However, it obviously doesn't do well enough to remain open for more than a few hours at any one time, as I have found to my frustration on more than one occasion. Apparently it's not that unusual for a fish and chip shop to open for lunch, shut in the early afternoon and then reopen for tea time, but for one in such a good location (right at the top of Horsforth's Town Street) you'd expect one continuous period of business. If you can catch this place when it is open, the fish and chips are pretty nice, and they do a mean battered-sausage. The chips are usually over-fried and crunchy, the fish non-descript. Redeeming feature the mushy peas are quite nice. I have been told that the sausage is delicious (as also indicated by the previous reviewer), but it's not for me. They also sell Southern Fried Chicken, but as I have NEVER seen anyone buy it, presumably those who have either won't or can't buy again, I would not recommend it. This place used to be full of school kids on a weekday lunchtime so I imagine that's were they get a lot of trade. Again too much choice to put Long Row in the top five this side of Leeds. Give it a miss if you can.

Friday and Saturday lunch times are always the busiest with people queing out of the door and into the street, but the hard working staff they soon get customers served. You are asked to clear away your plates etc. But I think this is a good idea as it clears the tables quicker. Prices are about average for fish and chips. Queues can get big at busy times and the service can be slow, depending on who/how many are serving. Food is usually really good quality and cooked nicely. They fry in vegetable oil, which makes the chips veggie friendly. This is why I choose to eat from this chip shop especially.
