Over priced for very little room. Pool always seems to have problems, and is closed a lot during the hottest months not just a one time occurance.office staff does not handle reservations properly. Mulch everywhere and in turn creates a soggy mess when it rains. The result is a multitude of flies. Overall unfriendly. read more

We booked this KOA online for five days using the app (it doesn't get any easier), we arrived and the staff greeted us and took us to our site I requested a site change and they accommodated, after setting up camp I found my satellite didn't have a clear view of the sky due to the number of trees over hanging my satellite receiver I didn't expect them to cut down the tree so again I requested a different site and again they accommodate me (the 3rd site was better but didn't really accomplish what I hoped for). I liked the campground and listed some of the pros and cons I experienced none were deal breakers I'd camp here again but probably request the site I want before booking. It seems the reviews are a mix of reviews prior to KOA ownership so like everything else things evolve over time, we had a pleasant experience although I'm not sure when the transition from private to corporate completed. Pros: 1. A very attentive staff that patrols the property and ready to help 2. A wonderful camp store stocked with just about everything you need including gasoline and propane and a penny smashing machine. 3. Great Cable TV 4. Great WiFi 5. Close proximity to the crystal clear Little River with easy access for tubing or kayaking. 6. Close proximity to all the amenities of Townsend and the Great Smokey Mountain National Park 7. Nice pool and playground for kids and far enough away from the sites 8. Camp Staff will deliver firewood and ice (maybe more stuff if you ask) to your campsite and apply it to your account. 9. Very little light pollution once the sun sets 10. It was relatively quite after dark. 11. Great water pressure 12. Doesn't seem to be longterm residential sites Cons: 1. The campsites are very close together not much privacy here. 2. The neighbor's sewer connections are in very close proximity to your patio area instead of been on the back side of the sites where the electrical and fresh water connections are located. 3. I have come with my family to this campground for over a decade and we have always enjoyed it, never had any issues UNTIL we stayed in 2024 at a primitive cabin. I walked up to the cabin and I saw the window open, i thought it was off but i opened the door only to smell an overwhelming amount of cigarette smoke and air freshener. I called the front desk and they were very kind and moved us to another cabin except this cabin was WORSE, I checked the bed like always to see bugs crawling ALL OVER IT, I called again and they upgraded us to a deluxe cabin for the inconveniences and were very kind but as a result of what I can only think of bed bugs, they had to wash ALL OF OUR STUFF AND OUR BAGS, it was horrific. We gave them the benefit of the doubt that it wouldn't happen again, I was greatly mistaken. This year, we booked a deluxe cabin only to pull back the sheets to see HAIR and what looked to be dried blood stains and other stains, I called and we were moved to another cabin to see that the mattress protector also had hair and stains, they came in and changed the sheets and mattress protector. I was later informed that they never change the mattress protector because they are "waterproof". The employees are genuinely so kind and went above and beyond for us but I can't even think about returning. read more

We had one of the few pull through sites at the front of the campground. This place hit all of our buttons, pull through, pet playground, things for the teenager to do, lots of shade and quiet. There was two ramps into the water that you could walk into the water and if you were adventurous you could start at the beginning of the campground's river section and float to the ramps. Except for the harrowing drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway(not expecting tunnels with a 5th wheel) it was a lovely drive in. read more

A fantastic tree lined campground. Everyone of the staff is friendly and VERY helpful!! We were a last minute reservation for Thanksgiving and they had one spot, right near one of the restrooms. Not the best if you don't like people constantly walking by but we didn't mind at all.,. Great concrete pads (great size) all have fire rings and table/ chairs. There are quite a few cabins and great tent sites also... The gas stations/,store was very easily accessed for us but if you need ice or firewood they deliver it to your site for no extra charge. Great place and looking forward to spending more than 3 days in the future. Great location to do many destinations including Cades Cove, Gatlinburg, Sevierville and pigeon forge. read more

Great location on the 'Little River' where the tubers ride by. Try to get a site that backs up to the river. Many other site feature very nice patios, fire rings, etc., so there is a reason for the highly varied pricing. read more

First time with our new rv and it was such a great experience!! The kids loved the pool and the staff and play areas and the creek was amazing!!! The worker on the tractor driving the kids on the super soaker ride made the weekend for them! He deserves a raise lol! Wish we got his name! Best camp trip ever!!! read more

Great camp ground at the base of the smokies. The staff was very nice as well. I really enjoyed the cabin I stayed in on the river.

Stayed here with my girlfriend in one of the cozy cabins. We found the cabin to be warm, welcoming, and clean. I was impressed with how clean the bathrooms at the shower house next to the office building were. Karen was extremely helpful and helped us get checked in even though we arrived later on in the evening. Very enjoyable stay-we'll be back. Thanks! read more

For an RV park that is on the "side of the road", it doesn't feel like it. As while some of the camp sites seem to be on top of one another, it actually is a good rv park. Staff is friendly, with plenty of activities during the week. Cute kids park and dog park. Several sites are along the Little River, where many folk can fish or inner tube down. read more

Met Adam upon arrival, who checked us in, another employee helped us take the car we were towing off and stored the tow dolly. Another of the staff escorted us to our site,helped get us backed into our site, that was very helpful. Lots of trees kept the motorhome from getting too hot, most sites have a nice canopy of branches providing the shade. The site was a back in so I was happy to have the help, along with my wife to get in the right position because the gravel street we were on is very narrow and hard to maneuver on. Those wonderful trees provide all the shade but some are right on the street. The site was spacious enough for our family to visit, it had a concrete patio with firepit and table with 4 chairs. Full hookups plus cable TV were very nice and the free wifi was a nice addition to our stay, although it wasn't very fast. Our Verizon smartphones had 2 to 3 bars of 4G, daughter and her family couldn't use their iPhones on AT&T. We stayed June 12 thru the 20th and enjoyed the location very much, grandchildren loved the well equipped and beautiful playground. We liked that Cades Cove is only 7 miles away, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge were 15 miles or so, made grocery store runs very quick and convenient. We loaded up our tow dolly and car on Saturday with a little help from the staff but accidentally left a coupler pin for the tow dolly, so they sent it back to us. Overall we enjoyed our vacation in the smokies and recommend the KOA as a great place to camp. read more

These people are mean. Charged our neighbors camping for extra cars and they only had one. Charged us an extra 87.60 for our children dropping off infants at camp site so they could go park in designated area. These people have no business running a camp ground. Will never come back and will dispute charges. read more

At one point in time, I would have given this place 5 stars. Once upon a time, they were a family owned campground with large sites and reasonable prices. They sold out to the conglomerate, KOA and it hasn't been the same. KOA came in and made the sites smaller, made cabins and raised prices to an astounding rate. It is still beautiful and sits right on The Little River, it is still absolutely gorgeous. The best thing to do is get a little lawn chair, or a tube and just sit in the river all day. This was my mother's favorite place to be, sitting in the river collecting rocks to do rock wrapping. Even though greedy KOA has raised the prices, we will always stay here because it's where we have always gone and I stay there in memory of my mother. Peninsula State Park in Door County & this place were my mother's favorite places to camp. read more

We had tent site 113. Everything was great. Location was perfect for the bathroom and shelter/ events that happen within the park. Staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. Delivery of wood, ice, communication through text message, wifi was perfect. Kids loved the events, movie at night, playground. I am giving a 4 star because the pool was under construction for the holiday weekend. Kids and myself planned on swimming. We did get in the river so it worked out. read more

We stayed here (tent camping) one night after camping in the Smokies. The only negative is that there's no cell service, but that's not their fault. The WiFi worked (it was a little slow). The employees were very friendly, and I liked that the store was open until 8pm. The website said the pool would be closed, but I was happily surprised to find that it was still open in mid-September (the temperatures were still in the 90s). (Sadly there's no hot tub.) The showers and bathrooms were clean. I liked that there was river access so that we could go soak our feet in the water. Overall it was a very nice (if short) stay! read more

We have traveled from Maine to this KOA many many times. It's one of my favorite campgrounds in the whole country. The campground is clean. The employees are extremely helpful. I love the country store. This is on the quiet Side of the Smokies away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and pigeon Forge, yet close enough to drive there. Rented 2 6 person cabins with quite a distancebetweenus. Had 2 cars per cabin. Were told we could only have one per site had to park across the street. No problem, until we check in and are unloading cars literally doors open carrying things in and are told twice to move the car at one cabin. In the other 2 separate men walk right up to porch withing 10 minutes to ask to move. Mind you there are empty cabins around us. We finish unpacking and moved cars. We rented a handicap cabin we have a handicap person with us she is not able to walk from one site to another. In the time it takes us to get her out of car to drop her off another man stops and reminds us of rule. Mind you both cars have a parking pass and it's been less than 2 minutes,he makes comments about us not waning to walk. It felt like border line harassment, they drove around on their golf carts all day counting cars while multiple driveways sat empty. I noticed multiple rv sites had 2 cars and a few with a car and motorcycles. Including one that appeared to belong to an employee. Maybe they could take some of the time they spend worrying about parking and fix the showers or the basketball hoop that is an empty pole. It seems most employees live on the property and would rather keep it for themselves and not have guests. Felt extremely unwelcome. I would never return or recommend. The last day we met a friendly younger guy and that is the only positive interaction I had. read more

Stayed July 4th weekend 2016, great location on the river. The cabins are kind of close, but it is do able. Nice cabins near the rivers, clean showers. Awesome experience til we got home realizing we were covered in bites...turned out to be bed bugs manager on duty is uneducated and rude which motivated me to fight. We contacted health department and corporate but turns out this KOA is privately owned, regardless after 2weeks they refunded our stay. Disgusting experience read more

This was our first camping trip as a family. I brought my wife, our 2.5 year old son, and my in-laws for a couple days of R&R and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Everything about our weekend at this KOA was amazing. The bathroom/showers look recently upgraded and as some reviewers have complained about, they do have towel hooks, shower racks, and benches. My wife, son, and I stayed at primitive tent site 111. It was fine. Nothing of note. Plenty of room for our tent, a picnic table, fire pit with grill, and plants of trees for shade. Next time, and believe me, there will be a next time, we will probably get a tent site on the river (124-126 seem like the prime spots). The in-laws opted to rent a cabin, number 7 actually. I think it is the best one because you only have a neighbor on on side, it is right on the water (I'm talking cast your line from the porch close!), and you have more room than other cabins outside. The only downside, if I had to pick one is that this cabin is closest to the road so you will here cars and motorcycles passing by. This didn't interfere with the sounds of the river though so no big deal, in my opinion. Our son loved the playground. It's designed to look like a treehouse, has multiple slides, rock climbing wall, and I don't think five minutes went by all weekend without a kid or two playing on it. The "season" starts next weekend when they have all of the activities available, but we could still use the pool and rent tunes if we wanted to. All in all, a great weekend. Our son keeps asking when we are going back. I hope it's soon, son, I hope it's real soon. read more

Very beautiful location at the very edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The little country store here sells the best fudge on the planet too. I kid you not, it's amazing and worth stocking up on to take back home or to relatives who won't believe you found the best fudge in existence. We stayed for 4 days/5nights in mid July 2014. While tubing in the river I lost my glasses! The staff, most notably Daisy, were awesome! I checked out very late due to issues getting my new prescription in Knoxville. No charge for the late exit due to my circumstances. Well maintained, very close to Cades Cove! When making reservations we were informed of the spotty wifi but not the horrible cell reception! Please expect to be unreachable while you are there! This may sound like heaven to many but I feel it should have been made clear while we were making our reservation. If it weren't for that I would be giving them 5 stars! read more

Here's my experience with this place. My children and I were tubing down the river. One of our tubes burst, and my 4 year old daughter went head over heels in the water. She had a life jacket on, but she was frightened and shivering. With the tube busted, we didn't have a choice but to crawl up the embankment and call for my wife to come pick us up. As we are getting everything and everyone into the car, a KOA rep comes up to us and harasses us for "trespassing". I told him what had happened, and he still acted like we were simply trespassing. His suggestion was literally that I should have gotten back in the water and float further downstream....with my frightened 4 year old daughter and a busted tube. It was the most infuriating experience I have ever had, and I let Mike know face to face with some words that I probably shouldn't have used. Afterwards, I called to discuss the matter further...and to my amazement, Mike doubled down on his accusation that we were simply trespassing...like we had any choice whatsoever. If their treatment of people in a dire situation like we were in is any indication at all of the mentality of the people who work at this place...and knowing that culture is from the top down... I would not recommend this place if it were the last campground on earth. There is a place about 100 yards up the road called Little Arrow. The facilities are amazing, and their employees wouldn't treat a person in trouble with their 4 year old frightened and shivering daughter like they were criminals. read more

We had an exceptional stay at the Townsend KOA. My family stayed for a week in a camping cabin, which was clean and had a mini-fridge, TV, and space heaters. The staff went above and beyond to assist with two special requests we had. Restrooms and dishwashing station were new and very clean. The only improvements I suggest are a small table in the cabin, a ledge or pouch by the bed (for glasses, phone, reading lamp), and more than one sink in the women's restroom. Very beautiful surroundings and very convenient to activities as well as the Smokies. We plan to visit again in December because it was such a great experience. Got a concussion on the rapids, scraped knee, banged up shoulder. Came out of the river at what looked to be a campground without a phone, cash, etc but my husband was going to finish the ride with our kids and come get me. I hobbled to a little bench close to the road, propped my rental tube and tried to calm down. That's when the woman with no ankles decided to threaten me with trespassing and tell me it said right on my tube where to get off the water. I fuzzily explained I was hurt albeit not as badly as the woman getting loaded on to an ambulance at the rivers edge and that I wouldn't be staying long. She was incredibly rude. I get that it probably gets old having tubers cutting thru your campground, I get that you are protecting your paying customers, I get that you don't want the liability of someone hurt on your property but jeez lady. I asked for nothing. I just needed a place to sit for a minute. I will never spend one cent at any KOA based on this experience. read more

Worst experience trying to get their help today ... they will never earn business from me because of how I was treated after being injured on the river and needing help. Horrible! A decent human being would have been helpful because that's common sense and the right thing to do but no I received 100 excuses and a lecture why I should have not exited the water... are you kidding my family was hurt with a popped tube and I had children with me. Not great, especially for the price. Have stayed with KOA numerous times and it was very nice, but this time I was not at all happy. The prices are outrageous compared with other area cabins, but we thought it would be worth the price, based on previous stays at KOA. We were wrong!! The beds were terribly uncomfortable, small and cramped, the cabin was dusty and filthy, the kitchen utensils had leftover crusty food on them, toilet had NOT been wiped down and had black stains that come from not being regularly cleaned, porch was full of cobwebs, and spider webs were everywhere, inside and out, of the cabin. I could go on, but will just say it was NOT worth the price tag, and the additional unjustified fees you get hit with once you arrive. The place gives the KOA reputation a negative name. read more

My most recent stay at Townsend KOA was September 2016. I plan to be there again September, 2017, as I have been every year since 2000. I have been there in a motor home and in a pop-up trailer camper. I love this place! It is 20 minutes from Cades Cove and about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg. If you are looking for a quiet, well-maintained camp just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, THIS IS IT ! In all of my stays here, I have never had occasion to complain about anything. The staff keep the grounds , bathrooms and showers immaculate. Do yourself a favor. If you are looking for a campground near the park, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, etc. try this one. read more

I came for a running race weekend getaway. Stayed in a camping cabin on the river. Perfect for what we needed- didn't have to deal with traffic or crowds had we stayed further away. Within walking distance of the race staging area. Clean; the sound of the river was peaceful and kept the bugs away. Bathrooms and shower rooms were a close walk away and clean. Reasonably priced. Just spent the weekend here in a deluxe cabin. It was incredibly clean and we were provided with all the comforts of home including bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, keurig (with pods), and semi-private patio with fire pit, table and chairs, and gas grill. It was a little costly but I guess that is the price of convenience. Greatly enjoyed and needed the trip! Next time a deluxe cabin on the river! read more
