They also stand up against the book-burning crowds in our society, you know, the type of people who want a repeat of 1939. The library isn't just a pillar of the community, they are the foundation of it. They offer many groups, and if you want something to do, just look at their calendar on the library's website. You'll find plenty of groups on there and who knows, one might be of interest to you. It's a great resource all around, and also a beautiful building. It offers somewhere quiet to go, but it's not too quiet either. If you want to go hang out with friends and chat? Go to the lycuem and sit in the comfortable chairs there. You are allowed to talk in certain rooms, there are a couple quiet rooms too if you need somewhere to study, like the history room. The staff are all very polite and so if you want a quiet place, ask one of them and they will lead you to one. Definitely worth checking out and visiting.

Besides being an architecturally appealing building, I love the layout and offerings. I've found books, and other items that other libraries either don't have or are hard to get, being checked out frequently. I recently discovered their nice DVD section. I found all seasons of Get Smart and rented them all over a period of about 5-1/2 weeks. They have a decent selection of Blu-Ray discs as well. The first room on the left as you enter is where they keep newspapers and periodicals. It's also a wonderful spot to sit and read. There's a small but adequate metered parking lot behind the building , which is managed by the Town. There's on-street metered parking as well. Just a block or two away, you'll find free parking on the side streets. They also offer passes to museums and some other local attractions, although, in most cases, the discount is somewhat less than those available from the Boston Public Library. The advantage is this is both easier to get to and park at. They do also offer,some virtual passes that you can easily obtain online. It is near at least two MBTA bus routes (77, 87). The staff is very helpful and friendly. They are associated with several other libraries within their network as well.

The library is clean, spacious and offers some really cool items like their seed catalog, where you can take seeds home to keep and plant. They also loan out video games. If you live in southern NH, your library card will give you free access to most of the libraries in the area: Manchester, Bedford, Hooksett, Derry, Merrimack, Salem and a couple others. Very cool! Bedford has a great selection of books, including a decent amount of new titles. They have a huge collection of DVDs, including many TV series (since I dumped cable years ago I find this to be a great thing). The best part is they also have around 150+ blu-ray discs-as far as I know this is the only area library that carries them. There is a nice reading area in the back, lots of computers, an excellent kids section (the whole bottom floor, in fact), and it seems they have many public events during the week (movies, concerts, and such). My only disappointment is their graphic novel section is a little light, but seems to be growing. If you are into that kind of thing, Manchester has the best selection.
