I needed 6…read morecam locks (to open with one key) all  slightly different, for my external storage compartments, on my Roadtrek Versatile 200.   He explained that he made cam locks and could make anything I needed.  He just needed to know the measurements.   He said he could make the locks (and ship them to me) and I could install them or he could install them at his full service locksmith store front. Long story short: I made an appointment and went to his shop in Palmdale, California. He even gave me permission to stay in my camper on his lot, the night before my appointment.  He had 3 of his staff work on the locks, they were at it for around 2.5 hours.  They all were professional and friendly. The locks were of a better construction than my previous locks, thicker metal and they turned smoothly.  I no longer have to push/pull the keys into just the right position or push on the doors to get them to open or lock. Thanks to Mark and his team, I have six functional locks that open with one master key. They offered to upgrade me to a larger unit that was missing some functionality. I agreed. I had to call for pickup early to avoid additional service charges when a tire came off the rim. It was apparently under inflated. There were indications that the setup was rushed when they couldn't deliver the tractor I reserved, turns out that the box scraper was apparently installed improperly and didn't work well. I paid for a whole week but only had it for 5 days due to no fault of my own.

They had nearly everything per my "wish list" and beyond that offered better variety (e.g., in lengths of electrical wiring) than the big stores. Even still, while I was indeed amazed with the inventory, that wasn't the best part. It was Aubern that took my initial call and met me in person as I arrived. She very proactively found almost everything with a problem-solving-can-do spirit. She located items quickly, coordinated with other staff to confirm specs, found alternatives for the rare item or two that wasn't in stock, and helped me find my most cost-effective bundle of parts when all was said & done. Karl's is a truly excellent hardware store with great staff and selection!

The prices for most items are competitive with big box stores-- items like PVC pipe, wood filler, and hardware are cheaper at Altadena Hardware in a side-by-side comparison to big box stores. If you purchase materials like wood or pipe, they can cut it for you for transport! The selection of paint, hardware, garden supplies, light bulbs, power tools, adhesives, and most other typical household hardware needs are excellent. Based on size, they don't stock as much lumber or appliances as big box stores. Very helpful -- they do cartridge exchange for Soda Stream!! And have many options of Soda Stream flavorings.
