I do not have any gardening or Landscape experience and do not live in the area nevertheless I decided to design a "Desert Landscape" for the front and back yards of my son's home in Palmdale. One of my son's main wishes was some privacy from the neighbors who overlook his back yard and rather than extending the block walls above the legal height I decided that hedges would do the job. My criteria were fast growing, color, low maintenance and water and I decided on "Purple Hopseed". I called a lot of local nurseries hoping to find them at 6' high but that was prohibitively expensive with 15-gallon plants and nobody seemed to have them in 5 gallons. I stumbled on Quartz Hill Garden Center and spoke with Kiersten the manager, she was incredibly helpful and responsive and tracked down 37 five-gallon Purple Hopseed plants that she could get in two days from a reputable supplier. She told me that they would be 3-4 feet tall and I resigned myself to the fact that we would have to wait a year or two for them to grow and expand. Kiersten gave me a good discount so I ordered them and you can imagine my delight when they were delivered and were actually 6 feet high! I was actually getting 15-gallon size plants for a 5-gallon price (see photo). Kiersten was also a very helpful in recommending other local resources and she was an absolute delight to deal with. Picked up some needed advise from here. Friendly atmosphere and pretty reasonable pricing. They had what I thought was a unique arraignment, of mixed or combo trees. I thought that was super cool, who wouldn't want a double cherry tree or 3 combo apple trees? The old white mine is just plain rude and has no customer service experience. Today was the second time he displays act of rudeness in the last past two visits. I arrived at 2:45 to pick up some pre paid bags of potting mix (2 bags). And he closed gates and said he was closed . Although the sign mentions 3. I pointed out the sign and he said that at 3 is when they leave. Which in my opinion, if that's the truth. The sign should reflect 2:50. Just an asshole. read more

The people are nice, my wife and I enjoy seeing Jerry the cat. My wife and I moved to the AV from Los Angeles. We want to have fruit trees. I got their Persimmons tree, which was $70. All of them did not have leaves, just a stick. I had it for three weeks now, been watering it, checking the soil and I feel I just been watering a stick. I feel it is now a dud and it is a waste. Great guy named Brandon helped us by having worms (last minute) on hand. Wanna get rid of mites? Neem oil and the rest is vinegar n water spray. Thank you Brandon, I have a bottle of Neem oil and neem leaves. Who knew it would come in handy. He also let me know we may have issues with dry fungus and white flies....great. I had ordered worms on line n they showed up today n my child needed it today, nice M, day before it's due. Thank goodness we didn't have another lady bug debacle again. Yes, one year I ordered lady bugs n my two kids (hubby n child) wanted to see it. We had lady bugs everywhere. So did the classroom. Hubby finally replaced my Aloe that was a gift, how does one kill Aloe? Answer is over watering them. My Aloe was Huge. No, he is not allowed anywhere near my Aloe ever again. This is the ABSOLUTE BEST nursery in the Antelope Valley. Last year, we brought home blight in some plants from Lowe's. It spread throughout my garden and made me very sad. I asked the woman I buy my potting soil from at America's Best Hydroponics in Palmdale for a recommendation on where to buy plants in order to avoid blight this year. She sent me to Quartz Hill Garden Center. The plants I bought were about $1 more per plant than Lowe's but they were easily twice as big and healthy! I was so pleased with my tomatoes and peppers, I went back the following weekend and bought sunflower seeds, watermelon, squash, eggplant, raspberries & 3 fruit trees. Plus, 1,500 ladybugs :) The staff is friendly, helpful, & knowledgable! The plants and trees are all so happy and healthy. They have a wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables and so much more. The owner is super friendly and always willing to answer questions and offer advice. I will never buy plants or trees again from anywhere else! The man who helped me pick out my trees even explained to me (without being asked) how I should water them and transplant them! MOST importantly, we brought home NO BLIGHT! read more

I started coming here 4-5 years ago because I like to support local businesses and I was trying to establish some fruit trees. The people that worked there seemed nice and helpful and sold me some cherry trees a large combo apple tree and several dory peach trees. These were bought late winter early spring. The peach tree's never woke up the Apple tree only one of the three grafts ever woke up. The cherry tree's did not survive I went back to ask them about the peach tree's that never woke up several times and they assured me that it would even though when I walked around their premises their batch of the exact same peach trees never woke up. I would check every couple months. I came back a year later and they told me that they were under new ownership and that they were getting bad trees from their old suppliers and I was out of luck that they would not be able to honor the old owners warranty. They told me that they are getting new stock from a different distributor now. I have since planted nine fruit trees that I purchased from Lowe's and Home Depot and they have all survived and are doing well it's unfortunate that I do not have a good option to support a local business. I went early this year and I saw them taking bare root fruit trees and putting them straight into 15 gallon pots which I would assume they would sell for a premium because people think that they are well-established maybe this is common practice but I assume when I spend $70 to get a 15 gallon tree over a 5 gallon tree that is because the tree is at least a year older. It's disappointing because growing fruit trees in this area can be tricky without local advice and since I can't trust this establishment I turned to YouTube and luckily found some good information on there to help me. read more

I've made several purchases here over the last few years but am finding them kind of sketchy with pricing now. I asked how much a 15 gallon tree was and was given two different prices and was told they sometimes charge for the support stick included with the plant. Never have heard of that before or have been charged for the stick the tree is tied to in the pot. If you're going to rip people off on that note, just skip the charade and include the stick in the price from the start. I don't know, maybe the employee was scatterbrained from embarrassment since he ripped a huge fart in front of me. Also... the older man with long hair needs to work on his customer service skills. The line is crazy, the old man cashier decided to serve people behind us in line first. When asked why he simply ignored. Then the younger male employee came out to check out our cart and got infuriated with us asking why the other customers got served ahead of us. He yelled" it's busy today and I'm not dealing with this shit now!" We immediately left. He ran ahead of our car with the shopping cart and pushed the cart toward our car, we had to move back fast in order to avoid the store's shopping cart hitting us. In September I purchased over $400 worth of plants. I was assured they would live through the winter. I wanted them to be able to survive in the shade. I purchased 6 Texas Bird of Paradise which did not live. I went back to the nursery and was told there was no guarantee. After buying what was recommended, I think they should just swap them out. Instead, I was offered a 40% discount on the replacements. He was going to call me when the reordered plants came in. Never called..just bad service. Not like they used to be. I really wanted to give this place a good review Just laid down over $700 bills on this place with a charge of $50 delivery to go less then 6 miles. The owners son was helpful in the store he told me that my order includes dirt along with my trees and plants. He also said that he would deliver it himself and tell us how to properly put them in the ground for our windy area. They gave me a time between 9am-11am to drop off. I called at 11:00 to see what the delay was and they said they were busy. By 12:30 our stuff had arrived (with no dirt) I had people and holes ready with no dirt! Not to mention we had a party in two days that we are trying to get the yard ready for. The man that delivered (not the owners son) said how sorry he was and there must have been a mix up. He told me he called the owners son and he would call me ASAP! He also said they would get down to the bottom of this. So here we about two weeks later no call no info no help! We had to go to Home Depot for dirt and get it done with out there followthrough! Please don't make promises as a company you don't intended to keep! read more

I admit that the variety and price may not be what you would find at a larger store, ie Lowes or H Depot; however, what you do get from Quartz Hill Garden Center is the guilty pleasure of putting money back into local small businesses and excellent customer service. I am not an AV native and was new to outdoor gardening when I moved here. Initially I tried the larger chain stores, but when I asked about specific plants or advice, I received blank stares and bad information. Polite, yes, helpful and knowledgeable....NO! I wanted plants that would be drought resistant, low water and would make it through our colder winters and scorching summers. Note: why are they selling bougainvillea and night blooming jasmine as outdoor annuals? They won't make it through our winters! After I wandered into Quartz Hill Garden Center, I found the most helpful and friendly staff. They listened to my preferences and made suggestions in a variety of price points that fit my needs both visually and economically. Also, a big shout out to Alex, who is a natural with customers and makes irritable kids (who are bored by a trip to the nursery) happy. read more

There prices are very reasonable and they have always worked with me to give me a Contractor price. We arrived at 4:30 on a Saturday. The website and signs outside state they are open until 5:00pm. When we arrived there were a few cars out front the gate was closed and there was a lock on the gate but it was open, not locked. We opened the gate and walked in. Asking " Is anyone here?" When I got to the front door it was open and I opened it and walked in. Announcing "Is anyone here?" I was abruptly ushered out by an old man and another person.There were 3 people inside. They said they closed at 4:30, and that we had taken their lock from their gate in the "Dummy position"(whatever that means) and we shouldn't have done that. If you are closed and don't want people coming in the gate, then lock the gate. The old guy was very rude and made me feel like a criminal for coming to his store. If they don't want people coming to their store during advertised hours, then change your hours on the website and also on the signage right in front of your store. That should be one of the first things you do. I don't want to hear " I didn't have time yet." If your business is that important to you, then the hours of your operation are one of the most important things to you. We are getting ready to re-landscape my entire front and backyards. They won't be getting ANY of our business now. read more

The Quartz Hill Garden Center did a great job. We got 4 cement pots and 4 sago palms. Their prices are about the same as all the major retailers, but they can do specialty orders, which we did with our cement pots. They have a great variety of plants, trees, and flowers. The staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable. They took my wife and I around and looked at several different types of palms and gave us a ton of information about each (growth rate, care, watering, able to grow in a pot, and anything about the Palm you could think of). My only complaint is that they took almost 7 weeks to get the cement pots and sago palms we ordered. First they forgot to order them than they forgot to let us know they were in. My wife and I had to call weekly to keep reminding them. Once we got the palms and pots we were very happy. They went out of their way to deliver and plant them the next day to make up for the delay. I would highly recommend the Quartz Hill Garden Center. They are reasonably priced, very knowledgeable, professional, and do an amazing job when they come to plant your order. read more

Came here looking for flowers. Not much of a selection. Place is small. It took us 10 minutes to find someone to help us.

We get most of our plants and garden veggies here. Everyone is always so helpful and willing to help us make an educated decision.

What a waste of my time, I went and most items had no name or price on them, just in black plastic pots. I am not going to keep asking someone every 2 minutes what the price is or what it is. Maybe labeling things better and pricing them will help with sales. The item I wanted was actually 3 times the price than at Lowes. Don't think I will be back. read more

Every Memorial Day Weekend, my wife and I like to make some home improvement. We decided to plant some shade trees and after visiting a not so friendly nursery, we ended up at Quartz Hill Garden Center. The staff and owner were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions without judgment. We ended up purchasing 10 trees for the front and back yards, posts to support the trees and vitamins for the trees.
