I went to Trader Joe's this evening around 7:30pm eager to restock on all of my grocery favorites, only to be extremely let down by THE Joe himself. As I perused aisle by aisle, my heart continued to sink deeper and deeper until it finally touched the heavily trafficked tile floor. The grocery store was stripped of all its goodness in the form of tasty frozen food and popular Trader Joe's creations. Those who had witnessed what I did, may go as far to say the shelves were that of a zombie apocalypse... So what is a man to do in a situation like this? I grabbed a large tub of yogurt and a picked over package of salmon and ventured to the check out. With my head hung low in disappointment, I drug my broken heart to the check out line. Amazing store! This place literally has everything I need. The food here is pretty fresh. Most of the inhouse stuff they make is amazing they have a huge wine selection they even have dog food. The customer service here is impeccable people are very friendly and always willing to help out even if it's not something they do they go out of their way to help you. I love all Trader Joes. This one is pretty nice like the other ones. It's out of the way for me to come here but when I drive by, I come here to buy my go to items. Man, I forgot how amazing TJ's is. Trader Joe's is AMAZING. I love it. I love getting fresh vegetables at low cost, delicious healthy lunches (all the Indian entrees and salads and pastas, etc), and so much more. I really find that TJ balances low pricing and good quality stuff. They don't skimp out on freshness and taste. Their already prepared meals are always good and you get great flavors and fresh meats. Their frozen food selection is also great! I started off this year eating very healthy so it's important to me to be able to buy healthy and fresh food at a low cost. Service is always top notch here. The staff are always friendly and ready to help. Someone always asks if there's anything they can do for me and when I ask a question, they'll either answer it or find someone that knows the answer. They really have a great staff. This place is pretty convenient for me and it's in the plaza where Wells Fargo, Petco and Ulta on the other side of the road. All the things I need. The employees here are super friendly. Actually, I don't believe I've ever been to a Trader Joe's where the employees weren't friendly. I came once looking for cookie crunch. The employee helped me find it and when she realized it wasn't he dreamt kind she went out of her way to find it for me and recommended some additional delicious spreads. They have this blueberry goat cheese that is soooo good. I haven't it found it anywhere else and it's the other goat cheese is more affordable than other places. read more

The customer service is always great at most Trader Joe's I go to, but Karl made my last two experiences at this location more than great. He's in the wine section and really makes a point to speak to every one in the section and offer recommendations. He's very kind and sweet. read more

Very unfriendly to seniors and people with disabilities. The express checkouts are for baskets only. The staff rudely kicks you out if you have a cart. If you have only one item you can't use the express lane if it's too heavy for you to carry - like a gallon of milk or a melon. Shame on Trader Joe for this. Otherwise the store is great. read more

I love the Trader Joe"a brand. This is why when I needed a gift for a relative in the hospital, I decided to stop in and create one out of Trader Joe's goodies. It was Sunday afternoon and this place was a terrifying nightmare with the longest lines I have ever seen at TJs and people literally everywhere making it difficult to maneuver the aisles. It was awful!! I would NEVER return. It gets worse...the check out lanes are marked to be used for carts or baskets. The lady in front of me had 5 items, but was using a cart because she had a 2 year old with her. An TJs employee actually told her that she had to get out of the line because she had a cart. All other lines were 7-8ppl deep with carts filled. She was next in line in the no cart line. She had to surrender the cart and hold the 5 items and a 2 year old. Really? Was that necessary? While the most convenient Trader Joe's to home, it's not the greatest location or store. The parking lot is always busy with people jockeying for the closest spot and pedestrians crossing, causing backups and making it difficult to get in. You also have to hit the store just right because they go out of stock on many items, sometimes for days, attributing it to supply problems or missed deliveries. Common items like spinach, bananas and oranges are hard to find later at night or if you go too early in the morning before they can restock. Lines at the register can get extreme as well, though they do have a basket only express line of sorts. When they are well stocked, it's not so bad, but more often than not I walk out without something I went there for. read more

1. The employees at TJs are really cool. I would be friends with all of them if crossing that employee-customer relationship was possible. 1b. All of the cashiers can bag groceries with the most beautiful and pragmatic Tetris-like skill. I aspire to have their bag skills. They also set a bar for other grocery stores where people do not bag groceries according to any use pattern. 2. The store expanded in the last year and includes a corner dedicated just to wine and beer. This corner is known as the fun corner. (Label of my own making, FYI). 3. Sometimes the items get shifted around. Some customers may find this annoying. As an adult, it is the closes thing to hide-and-seek and I enjoy it. 4. Parking outside is difficult. Mostly because people don't know how to park or drive safely (less than 5MPH) in a parking lot. read more

TJ is my go-to weekly! The produce section really speaks to me. Fresh organic fruits and veggies at a reasonable price, not only that but the employees are always found there keeping it clean, restocking, fifo'ing & helpful! There's a difference when I bite into a fruit from trader joe's versus a fruit from safeway/harris teeter. You can really tell the difference by it's freshness and texture! This is a really good TJ location! They always have great stock of items. I really like the grab and go salads/soups for lunches, and they have expanded the amount that they keep on hand and have a wider variety now. The one draw back is this location is always packed-- there is always a line, usually a long one. I feel like TJ's are becoming so popular in the DMV area, and this is at no fault of theirs, but this isn't a "run in real quick" type of experience. You will struggle to maneuver the aisles, and also struggle with check out. Don't even bother getting me started on the parking. Overall the actual location/workers are really nice. It's with a heavy heart that I write this review, and I'm happy to change it if they respond to my e-mail. Let's get some background. I love Trader Joe's and all of its products, and all of the friendly people that work there and seem more than happy to help you out. For a full review, I'd probably give it 3 or 4 stars, with the deductions coming from having a mass of humanity that descends upon this place over the weekends, and having little to no available parking. But, it doesn't stop me from coming back. What will stop me are surly cashiers. Typically, if I feel bad that lines are long, or if I'm just feeling helpful that day, I'll help out bagging the groceries. But that being said, it's part of their job to bag. On Saturday, as we stood to check out, Brad, an older gentleman with white hair, nodded over to the bags and said "bags are over there if you want". OK, so he wants me to bag the groceries? Maybe I didn't hear him right. I was busy on my phone that day, so I chose to let it pass. He rings up all of the stuff, and then says, "do you want your groceries in a bag"? Uhh, yes, Brad. How else am I going to cart the 30 things I brought, by hand? So I say yes, and then he glares at me and says "wow". It still didn't register with me...maybe I didn't want to believe that this cashier just didn't want to do his job, or was just an ass. But, to me, this is your job. Do it, don't expect the customers to do it for you, and certainly don't give them attitude when they don't feel like helping you today. If you don't like the job, then quit. I talked to the manager about it for a little bit, but I doubt anything will come of it. So, end of story, love TJ, love the products, just avoid Brad. read more

This place is highly unorganized and a ZOO! This is my fourth visit here, and nothing has yet to change. It doesn't matter if it is on a Sunday afternoon or Wednesday night. Never ever are they organized. Team members are aloof and not so willing to help you as the more chipper and customer oriented locations in Foggy Bottom and Clarendon. My visit today will be the last. I keep telling myself it will be okay, and that the convenience is worth it when I am in the area. Dead wrong, buster! Dead wrong. Also, don't think this is easier to get in and out of just because it has a parking lot in a strip mall. That isn't right either. read more

First off - Trader Joe's gets an immediate 5 stars for allowing me to finally find cat treats my little guy is absolutely bananas for. Well its not just the cat treats that has me rating them so well (but they do probably score an extra star just for that). Its the extraordinarily friendly staff. Doesn't matter what my day has been like. I never fail to leave here without having a little respite from the insanity of the world,, a few helpful conversations with folks on the floor (like the lady who showed me that the bread trays pull out - you don't have to go digging when items at the front have been sold), and an engaging conversation with the folks that man the registers. The crew here is also the first I've encountered that across the board know how to bag: frozen with frozen, fresh with fresh, cans and hard packaging away from other items they may damage. I can't do 100% of my shopping here as there are some items they just don't carry that I want. And I usually hit up my farmers market for produce (largely because I can buy individual pieces instead of set amounts like TJ only offers). But I do like that I can buy poultry and pork in small packages instead of the mega servings at the mega marts. The cheese department provides excellent variety at reasonable costs for most of the nibbles I like to get. And there are some frozen items I just might be addicted to. Bottom line, this store is always well stocked, well staffed and well kept. Its fairly easy to park here (well easier than the one in Old Town) and its a rare day that I walk out without at least one random impulse item that caught my eye. Its many of those impulse items or those offered at the sample stand that have become the favorites I return for time and time again. Plus you just can't beat that the number at the bottom of the receipt is very pocket friendly. read more

A solid 4 stars.... I like this location, but don't go here all of the time. They have a great organic section which my wife really likes. Wines from Trader Joe's are pretty good and fairly priced. Some of their items can be a bit pricey while other items are deals/steals. This is a specialty type grocery store so they have just about everything, but don't come here looking for certain items. Service here is pretty damn good, I have been here countless times and only encountered one snotty employee I would like to smack upside the head. They have a decent beer section too, but I opt for the Trader Joe beers when shopping here because if you buy some Stella or Guinness it's overpriced. Also, I really like the fact that they're always giving out samples of something. The fruit and vegetable section isn't as good as some of the other Trader Joe's locations I have been to, but they usually have one or two items on sale. The parking here absolutely sucks, and it shouldn't because they have a very large parking lot that they share with other businesses. This location is always very crowded as well. I have the luxury of working within walking distance of here, and get to do my grocery shopping in small amounts, during the week. This store has the standard run of TJ goods, though there are bigger ones elsewhere with the complete selection. There are great prices on an array of frozen and prepared foods, produce, coffees, environmentally safe household products and a nice selection of beer and wine (I grew up in PA so this still blows my mind) and a friendly, helpful staff. There are lots of organic options too. As for location, you are basically at Bailey's Crossroads (rts. 7 & 224) and have a short walk to Best Buy, PetCo, Office Depot, Pier 1, Tweeter, five restaurants, three banks, a Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, La Madeliene and a deluxe Safeway in case they offer a speciality item not available here, and a short drive to so much more, but hey that is northern Virginia, one stoplight for every five people. Just dive headfirst into consumerism and go nuts. P.S. For about 3.50 you can pick up a tiny, packaged sushi snack of 8 thick pieces; it comes with packets of soy sauce, wasabi AND ginger. As a recent transplant from Texas, I was both shocked and disappointed by the pretty mediocre grocery stores around here. The prices are sky high and quality is low at Giant, Safeway, etc. I had always heard of this mystery store called Trader Joe's from my east coast friends, but had never stepped foot in one until I moved here. This place is great! Albeit small, the prices are AMAZING and rival even that of HEB grocery stores in Texas. They have a fabulous selection of organic stuff at regular product prices. Produce is fresh and cheap--again, even the organic. The staff is helpful and friendly and I have never waited longer than a minute or two in line. They supposedly pay their employees an actual living wage (much better than Whole Foods' lousy $10 an hour), and it shows because they seem decidedly less surly and much more genuine than WF's drones. A few of my favorite products here: frozen mango chunks, salsa, mushroom ravioli, Cookie Butter (better than Nutella!), shredded cheese, organic broccoli slaw, etc. I try a new product during every shopping trip and am always happy with something new that I've discovered. Leesberg Pike Trader Joes, come early or face the wrath of the parking lot. I love Trader Joes for the ability to stock up on essentials, buy great flowers, frozen meals and well priced wine. What I hate about this one is that if you head here on the weekend to do your shopping and you get there after lunch time be prepared for a Parking Lot of hell. The problem is that the Trader Joes shares space next to a huge Best Buy and Staples stores in a well stocked strip mall of other shops, restaurants and such. Also, the shop gets cleared out pretty quickly of the more popular foods the later in the day you go. My faves are: Sweet Hot Mustard, Tofu Spinach Egg Rolls, Chicken Gyoza, Frozen Fruit (Mangos, Tropical Mix), Toasted Sesame and Ginger Potato Chips, PaPaDums (Tikka Masla and Yogurt Dill), Refried Beans and Peach Salsa. read more

The BEST prices on wine in the area. Period. They have real, TJ's champagne, and it ain't bad at $20 a bottle (other champagne is $40-$60/ bottle). Inexpensive, healthy food. Lots of nearly-prepared items. Decent cheeses and coffee. A relief for thrifty, label-readers who are looking for quality foods without preservatives. Ideal for busy people who wish for "slow food," but for whatever reason (2 kids under age 3), just don't have the time to prep from scratch. Oh, and they are absolutely the best about returned items. Choose when you go very very carefully or you'll probably need some blood pressure meds. Not recommended: Saturday afternoon and definitely not Sunday afternoon or evening. The parking lot is a pain in the butt as is, but if you go at peak times you're going to be circling for ages and possibly parking illegally beside some dumpsters like I once did. Saturday after 6pm is pretty ideal if you want to avoid the crowds. The fresh produce section is fairly small and the prices vary. A bag of five avocados for $4 is good, but a tiny bunch of cilantro for almost $2 not so much. However, for cheap packaged items, Trader Joe's usually wins. Canned or marinated artichokes are around $2, so pretty much always cheaper than a regular grocery store. Pesto, gourmet cheeses, frozen fruits, cow's milk alternatives, frozen meals, fancy crackers and cookies, and frozen desserts all tend to be good quality and better deals than other places. They have their own brand of Greek yogurt and a big container's under $3, but the quality isn't as good as Fage, which they also carry at a decent price. The prepared foods and ready to eat foods can be hit or miss. Their sushi's a little weird, but their soups are pretty good. I had high hopes for their cook at home premarinated bulgogi, but while the flavor was fine, the meat was way too tough and chewy. I'd definitely give it a pass. Their chocolate croissants are great, but the lemon tart was really bitter. Fortunately, their staff's always sweet. read more

I have become such a Trader Joe's fanatic after heading back to the DC area after graduation. Their prices are so reasonable compared to Harris Teeter, Safeway and of course Whole Foods. One caveat with Trader Joe's- best to go in knowing what you need. The aisles can get pretty crammed and there's not much room for stopping and searching. Some of my recent favorites-raisin rosemary crackers with their goat cheese, corn and chile tomato-less salsa (great thrown on chicken), cookie butter cheesecakes (deadly), and spinach dip. read more

The store is almost always crowded and the parking lot is worse, but the store employees unfailingly seem ecstatic to be working here - they're chatty, helpful, and very knowledgeable about products and store layout. Shelves are constantly stocked, even during prime weekend hours, so I generally leave with exactly what I was looking for (plus one or two more things, generally of the sweet variety). Some of the prepared food in the fridge case looked less-than-appetizing, but I go to TJ's for frozen foods and pantry staples, not lunch. I love the organic options at Trader Joes, from the greens to the dairy to the corn chips. I buy them all. In addition to the good produce and prices (compared to the competition, phew!) the staff is always friendly. I've never had "surly" customer service. Their smiles are contagious! I hope they are getting paid well. As far as the parking is concerned, I bike in and out. I can fit two bags in my crate and a sack of potatoes or 2 cartons of juice or milk in my front basket. I pedal right past all the folks still looking for a parking spot. On another note, it saddens me to see products from Israel; Dorot herbs & Eden cheese. I am one of tens of thousands of citizens around the world boycotting Israel for its human rights violations, impunity with regard to international law and the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.. Avoid this location during the week after work or between 10 and 2 on the weekends. However, if you get there early in the morning on Sat or Sun you practically have the store to yourself which is perfect. The vegetables and fruit are good. Cheese selection is fair. And you can get decent wine at decent prices. Other than that, the Trader Joe's hype is pretty much just that, hype. read more

Of course, I love Trader Joe's and its offerings at every location including this one. The service is great as always and I do enjoy shopping here overall. However my only complains with this particular TJs is the setup. The layout of this Trader Joe's is a bit cramped and confusing. I think the low ceilings make it feel a bit claustrophobic and it gets extremely crowded during rush times such as Sunday afternoons. The system for check out lines is also confusing and the lines get long and wind through the store as a result. I think they could do a better job with the queue setup so that the lines don't flow right into the product aisles. Go on off peak times for a better shopping experience. read more

I LOVE TJs. This store is such a better bargain then Whole Foods. TJs brand of goods are excellent. Their brand of frozen pizzas are a great deal. They also carry one of my favorite brands of wine, Nerello Bastardo. It's a great red wine for less then $10. And they have a great selection of plants and flowers. I love the desserts and the whole bean coffee (I go for the dark, bold roasts of beans). I could go on and on about all the products I adore but I'll stop.
