I was looking for a local photographer who could do our maternity/holiday and newborn photos. Not only does Dawn have stellar reviews on Yelp, but she's been awarded for her work as well. Her work caught my eye. I love her style and how she's able to capture special moments during a shoot, and not just the staged look. (There's actually a couple photos that make me cry every time I look at it because she perfectly captured our love for each other and growing family!) My husband and I are usually nervous and uncomfortable in front of the camera, but we immediately connected with Dawn and were pretty comfortable with her throughout the session. The session lasted about 30 - 40 minutes at her studio. Originally, we planned to have our maternity holiday photos taken at Lee Farms's Christmas Tree field, but that day was really windy and rainy. Her studio is great. Lots of different backgrounds to choose from, lots of textures. She has a good number of props too! (Allow for a little extra time to find the place because it's in this business area with other businesses around, which made it a little tricky to find - at least at night.) Dawn has a great personality. What I really appreciated most about the photo session was her direction. She would tell us to tilt our heads, look in a certain direction, fix our clothing and hair, etc. The lighting was very soft with that awesomely big light diffuser. If you're looking to book with Dawn, do it. Contact her immediately because she's super busy. She said it takes her about 3 weeks to edit, but we were able to see our session at about 2 weeks (thank you!). The whole process is pretty smooth: contact/book a contract and put down a deposit, pay balance at time of shoot, private link and password via email to view session, make purchases online, separate email sent immediately with digital photos (if you choose this medium). If you decide to order prints, it may take a couple of weeks. We went with the digital full resolution version. We loved all of the photos she presented us, which made it awfully hard to choose the 10 we wanted to keep, so we ended up buying some additional photos. Her work is quality. I adore these photos, but as his third birthday approached, my heart was searching for something different. He's not a "sit and smile" kinda boy. He's wild and colorful.. a rainbow that injects creativity into my life. His personality is hard to put into words, but I can SEE it, and I wanted someone to capture *that*. Before she arrived, she already had a vision in her head.. a couple of times, I heard her talking through the ideas she had thoughtfully written down. I dunno, but the photos represent more than a happy morning with my son.. they encompass our dance and our blurs and the push-and-pull of our hearts and bodies moving together. They are art.
