We were warmly welcomed by a hostess this morning who explained how all of the meats and veggies…read moreand the eggs are all produced by their local farm that is 15 miles from here and the bread is all homemade here too. And the coffee is also roasted locally. So yeah, this was a pretty neat stop in very rural Missouri as we're headed across on US-60 from the one side to the next. After seated, we took a look at the menu. Options for both of us were easy. Mrs. K. is a connoisseur of French Toast. As she doesn't eat meat, this is her usual "go to" for breakfast so that was her easy choice at The Ranch House this morning. Me, I'm on keto so I was able to have their three-egg omelet with all the veggies plus added steak sausage. Coffee arrived first and it was excellent. Just a simple drop, it was rich and hot and perfection. A little bit later, breakfast arrived. I very much enjoyed the omelet as it was tasty. I could really taste the eggs in here today. Yum! Mrs. K. said "This is the best French Toast that I have ever had" and that's really saying something as she's enjoyed dozens if not a couple hundred portions across my Yelp career. Wow. Breakfast was around $40 with tip. And afterward, we wandered around the small town of Van Buren for a bit. A truly lovely stop. [Review 669 of 2026 - 523 in Missouri - 25850 overall]

Not many choices for breakfast in Van Buren but this is a good choice. Hostess was very friendly…read moreand seated our group quickly. Service was good but a little slow. Beef bacon was a little disappointing (way overcooked) and the biscuits and gravy didn't seem particularly 'homemade.' The coffee however was GREAT! There was also a gift shop so it made it a nice decor. Overall a pretty good experience.

This was my second trip here. The first it was the destination, the second was a side quest. I…read moredidn't realize how close it is from Elephant Rocks State Park and Johnson Shut-ins!! The store is so cute! The mix of nostalgic candy, rare finds, antiques, ice cream, coffee, and bulk items can be overwelming, but in a positive way. It is almost like a candy / treat store and a museum all in one. On this trip, I got some coffee sample packets for my husband's Easter basket, a frappe for each of us, and a couple of candies for the household. The shop is bursting with products, so the aisles are a bit tight for passing people stopped to check out the fun products. Caledonia is a charming little village with shops, eats, and several outdoor adventures in the area.

When we visited, it was decorated for Christmas, giving it a cozy, vintage holiday vibe. The shelves were filled with childhood candies (even candy cigarettes). They also have an impressive selection of coffees from around the world -- and the prices are refreshingly reasonable. The handmade ice cream bar is a must-try. We ordered an ice cream flight with five samples, perfect for sharing since we couldn't decide on just one of the many delicious flavors. The assortment of chocolates looked amazing too. Upstairs, you can stroll through a collection of antiques that add even more charm to the place. We really enjoyed our visit -- it's a place that makes you slow down, take it all in, and maybe leave with a few extra treats you didn't plan on.
