This was my second trip here. The first it was the destination, the second was a side quest. I didn't realize how close it is from Elephant Rocks State Park and Johnson Shut-ins!! The store is so cute! The mix of nostalgic candy, rare finds, antiques, ice cream, coffee, and bulk items can be overwelming, but in a positive way. It is almost like a candy / treat store and a museum all in one. On this trip, I got some coffee sample packets for my husband's Easter basket, a frappe for each of us, and a couple of candies for the household. The shop is bursting with products, so the aisles are a bit tight for passing people stopped to check out the fun products. Step back in time when you step into this mercantile. It's one of those places you just have to stop at if you're in the area. There's so much to see here. When we visited, it was decorated for Christmas, giving it a cozy, vintage holiday vibe. The shelves were filled with childhood candies (even candy cigarettes). They also have an impressive selection of coffees from around the world -- and the prices are refreshingly reasonable. The handmade ice cream bar is a must-try. We ordered an ice cream flight with five samples, perfect for sharing since we couldn't decide on just one of the many delicious flavors. The assortment of chocolates looked amazing too. Upstairs, you can stroll through a collection of antiques that add even more charm to the place. Ice cream, coffee, candy, and antiques, do you really need anything else? This place is beautifully decorated and even has special holiday decorations up during the Christmas season. The ice cream is the main reason I went and I was not disappointed! They had about 20 different unique flavors and this ice cream is amazing! I chose the option with 5 mini scoops so I could try out a few different flavors. My sister had a coffee that she really enjoyed too. The staff are all very friendly and make you feel right at home. This place make me happy immediately upon entering. On November 8th, they were playing old school Christmas music. They had every candy I could name. There was a latte bar and an ice cream shop with flavors like Pumpkin Cheesecake and OREO fudge. There were also rows and nooks filled with trinkets to buy. The ice cream tastes homemade homemade. I loved the Oreo. My pal loved the Gooey Butter Cookie ice cream! If you are anywhere near Caledonia, stop in here! And if you're nearby the weekend before Thanksgiving, they do a "Chocolate Walk" with all of the adorable little shops and prizes. read more

Walking into Old Village Mercantile is taking a step back in time in the best way possible. We have been coming here for years and have never had something we don't like. Their homemade ice cream is amazing- they come up with different flavors based on the season. Their coffee and drink bar is equally as good. The candy and sweets selection is top notch, and we've even found some candies from our childhood here. We tell people all the time to make a stop at Old Village Mercantile. Hidden gem! I was passing through town on my way to some southern MO cemeteries and stopped to see if the Mercantile was open. It was. Didn't know what to expect. It's a big building. Bigger than Oleson's Mercantile on Little House. Picture a 100 year old store. Interior has not been changed, or what was once changed has been changed back to its charming old self. Positively took my breath away when I walked in. I was like Belle seeing Beast's library for the first time. Except this was full of candy and antiques. I never would have expected this dream of a place to be open in 2016. Go to Caledonia to see it. read more

Fantastic step back in time store. We came across the store a few years ago, but could not remember where it was. We found it again, May 2021. It is a quaint little candy and antique store that whisks you back in time as soon as you walk in. There are nostalgic candies that bring back childhood memories and knick-knacks and antiques that remind you of a gentler, more quiet times. The ice cream counter offers custom-made ice cream and treats that put other ice cream outlets to shame. All the associates were polite and friendly. The owner even engaged the customers. This is such a fun place. It's an old fashioned candy store with an ice cream bar, gourmet coffee and antique shop all rolled up into one. You can find all the candy from your childhood - Pop Rocks, licorice laces, and even (gasp) candy cigarettes. Plus some great "by the pound selections" including my personal favorite, cayenne dark chocolate covered almonds. And plenty of modern selections, too. There is literally a treat for every sweet tooth. The shop has so much character and between the candy, ice cream and antiques, I never feel like I have enough time when I visit -- nor does my daughter. If you visit, give yourself enough time to visit the other antique shops in Caledonia. It's a fun day trip. read more

When leaving Johnson's Shut Ins, we overheard people talking about this "awesome old fashioned candy store" nearby. Luckily, we found it on our way home. This was such a unique store with so many antiques to see, and so much nostalgia. Also, the candy selection brought back a lot of childhood memories. Don't forget to peruse the second floor where you could easily spend an hour looking at all the items. I usually prefer other treats over ice cream, but we did decide to try the ice cream since it was a warm summer day. I have to say it was probably the best ice cream I've had. The staff were all extremely friendly. This will definitely be a place I visit every time I go to Johnson's Shut Ins or Elephant Rocks. read more

This place is just magical. I've been visiting for years and it never gets less exciting. They carry something for everyone, with almost everything being locally sourced or made. The aura is incredible, like going back in time. I love the coffee bar, their iced coffees are wonderful. I also love the coffee grounds available for purchase, I always stock up when I come. Neat store with lots of goodies. They have pretty much every kind of candy and I love finding stuff I grew up eating. However, the latte I had was awful. It tasted like it was made with coffee and not an actual shot of espresso. The flavor was weak and slightly metallic. It didn't taste any better than the poor attempt I made in my own kitchen with brewed espresso. They have a nice selection of treats but when it comes to coffee, I'll stick with an actual coffee shop. read more

We pass by here all the time on the way to our property. We have stopped in several times and just fell in love with the place as it is almost lost in time. Now they have added a homemade ice cream bar. As a self described butter pecan connoisseur, I can honestly say their butter pecan was the best by far I've ever had. I will be stopping off more frequently for my waffle cone and 2 scoops of their delicious butter pecan. read more
