(Even though my husband and I are Members). ‍ A friend of mine sent me a note that the botanical gardens have free admission in June for a anyone with Rose in their name. Whoohoo. I brought my aunt Rose and godmother for a day out. She just turned 80, what a nice way to get out. Even on a 95 degree day, the gardens were beautiful. Sun, shade and the inside garden with the butterfly release. They also had educational tables set up. I think there are a handful of volunteers that do a wonderful job. Julie checked us in and was very helpful. This is a great place to walk wonderfully curated gardens. There is beauty in every corner. I'm definitely coming back to use my membership and enjoy the beauty here. (Just maybe not on a 95 degree day again). Hahaha.

It's a super cool shape and all glass on the outside. Near it is another giant piece of public art, a big hand. Parking can be a little difficult around the museum as it's a pretty walkable area, but there are a few pay lots within walking distance. The museum is 4 floors I believe and has constantly rotating exhibits. They don't collect or keep any pieces which makes each visit a new experience. The exhibits are typically interesting and sometimes they feature local artists. I've attended a few events here which are usually pretty cool. They have a large open space perfect for a dance floor, wedding, or any type party of event. They also have a cool gallery hall where they usually set-up the bar. You have to bring in for your own events of course. But another cool thing is that the museum is free and open to all Ohio residents Friday-Sunday!

I'm not a modern art person, but I've seen much better than this. The top of the stairs led to a bizarrely pointless overlook of very little of the interior. The most artsy exhibit had some abstract paintings that looked kind of cool but didn't photograph well. Another floor felt like it was basically a dare to dislike the art, with text framing the artist's identity as if this was very important, but the actual exhibit being childishly unoriginal and aesthetically bankrupt. Maybe future exhibits will be better, but the other reviewers don't give me a ton of confidence about whoever's making creative decisions here. The view of the neighborhood was nice, but I found that I spent barely half an hour trying really hard to get something out of the museum before giving up, and it really wasn't worth the time or money that I spent on it. I've been to my fair share of natural history museums, and while this one is compact, it is very modern and packs a punch! When you enter, you're immediately greeted by a giant dinosaur and that set the tone for the whole visit, I felt like I kept seeing dinosaur bones everywhere! It took me a moment to orient myself to the museum layout, but looking back it's pretty compact and I could've easily wandered and enjoyed most of the museum in a couple hours. I especially enjoyed how interactive the earth section was, and this is silly but sit on those rock-looking cushions - they are SO comfortable! The little planetarium area was also very cool, and I would consider seeing a show in there next time! The dioramas are by far the most beautiful/engaging I've seen, and with between the fish video cave and the outdoor animal area, I felt like I also got a mini trip to the aquarium and the zoo. Overall I had an amazing time and this spot is super baby/toddler friendly! Note: If you have ASTC membership, admission is included! As a non museum member, I'd recommend street parking. It's much cheaper than the flat rate garage fare.

They have a movie theater that shows different short movies (~ 30-45 mins) & a planetarium - sadly we missed the shows for the planetarium... BUT we will be back!! We watched a T-Rex film that I will say, I thought was going to be dumb.... But again was actually so cool! Do not underestimate this museum! Plus Cuyahoga county residents get in for free on the weekends & according to their events page.. they hold SO many fun activities for kids and adults - like yoga! We came to Lorraine Ohio for a girls dance competition, and had an afternoon off. This museum is like no other I've ever visited. We started at the gift shop what an amazing display of artifacts, memorabilia, and Christmas decor, much of it styled out of the 1940s era. While there we had a pleasure of meeting the young lady who played the part of Santa's elf at Higby's department store. She had returned for a reunion weekend with a cast from the movie. The neighborhood looks very much the same the scenes in the movie. The house itself is beautifully restored inside and out. Unlike other museums, this one is extremely interactive. I crawled underneath the kitchen sink and had my kids take photos of me. My granddaughter put Randy's bib around her neck and gobbled away at a dinner plate. Upstairs we rattled around through the bedrooms, the bathroom (the decoder ring was sitting on the sink). I highly recommend this museum!

The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit was a mixed bag for me; some really good and some not so much. I…read morewaited for the price to come down and went on a Tuesday afternoon after the cost had come down to $20 plus a $7 fee. Lets get some of the basics out of the way. The exhibit is located on the East Side of Cleveland in a converted warehouse space near to the Shoreway. The entrance to the parking lot is on E. 72nd street, but you drive around the building and enter on the E.70th Street side. Parking is $5 which you pay for inside. Since the day was nice, I parked on E.72nd and walked around the building. Once inside you check-in and then can either enter the exhibit or look around the lobby/gift shop. There are some cool pieces to take pictures with and some things to see. The exhibit itself is a large rectangular room about 60 foot wide by 200 foot long. The tall walls have been covered with screens onto which the exhibit is projected. There are projections on the floor, including circles 6 foot apart to allow for social distancing. There are a decent number of benches and folding chairs. While I was there the room had a nice sized crowd, but not overly crowded. The sound is excellent, although it may be a bit loud for some. The exhibit itself runs on a continuous loop of about 30 minutes. Once inside you are allowed to stay as long as you like. The projections vary slightly depending on which wall you are looking at so finding the place you want to be and what you want to watch can be challenging. A major issue with the space is that there are two rows of columns running down the space; to try to deal with this they have covered them with mirrored panels. Unfortunately this means that your view is constantly broken up and disrupted and takes you out of the exhibit. The projections and music is very well done. Technically this is an excellent piece of interactive art. How you enjoy this will vary greatly. To make the piece interactive they have taken Van Gogh's works and altered them in a number of ways. Most of the projections are smaller details of the larger pieces; there is almost no time given to the full pieces. They have added animation and movement to the art. They have also changed some of the colors and illumination levels to create action. As interactive art it is entertaining and compelling, as an actual exhibition of Van Gogh's art it falls far short. I had downloaded the Android App which had a good deal of background information and explanations. Unfortunately I found the app hard to use, especially the audio functions. I was listening to the podcast designed to synchronize with the exhibit, it cut out about half way through and was impossible to get back working. The gift shop had quite a nice selection of items, although prices were hard to find and seemed a bit expensive. Overall I was OK with the Immersive Van Gogh, partially because I waited until the prices had reduced significantly and I avoided the parking fee. If I had paid about $70-$80 I would have felt ripped off. The exhibit itself was really well done from a technical standpoint, I just felt that it did not do full credit to the Van Gogh's genius. I also went at a time when the exhibit was not overly crowded; during prime times it could be challenging. The best part of Immersive Van Gogh is that it has introduced the artist and great art to a much wider audience. The exhibit really highlights the details, the colors and the brushwork of the art, it unfortunately de-emphasizes the full works and the compositions that are a major part of what makes these masterpieces. Since a single company runs the exhibit, leases the building and does the ticketing it feels like they are trying to ring out excessive money with the ticketing fee and parking fee in addition to the cost of the tickets. How you feel about the Immersive Van Gogh will depend on how you approach the exhibit. If you are looking for a real exhibit of Van Gogh's work this is probably not for you. If you are looking at a fairly unique multi-media presentation based on Van Gogh's works, you will probably enjoy it. I would suggest going through the app to get some nice background information.

Last month, I finally had the opportunity to visit. It was worth the ticket price and time spent. There are 6 or floors. We started from the lower level and worked our way up. We spent an afternoon there and were able to see most of it. We skipped the interactive floor geared towards younger visitors, and one theater was closed that day. During our visit, there was an exhibit about SNL and on about Women in Rock. Both were great. The permanent installations were great too - lots of memorabilia and music history on display. Heads-up: Currently, there is a lot of construction happening outside for future enhancements to the museum. So some sidewalks are closed and you'll be re-routed if you parked further away and are on foot.
