I have had several family members at Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg. My grandmother was there first she became a LT resident she thrived there, the last 3 years of her life she was happy, they would keep her involved in the activities and she loved joking and playing tricks on the nurses & staff and joking with them. My mother had several stays, for rehab and for Respite, she loved it there and her last stay there when she was discharged from the hospital she requested to go back because she knew there was nothing more that could be done for her and she said that the staff were like family to her and wanted to go there, the CNA's all the staff went to above and beyond to make her comfortable the last days of her life they were so supportive as she passed. Lastly my brother was also a rehab patient and the staff worked endlessly with him to rehab him although his Cancer decided to take over. But while he was there everyone treated him with dignity and respect during his stay. Remember all Healthcare facilities & hospitals have their issues just like any business. I find if you have an issue or concern, they cannot fix it if you do not let them aware. I recommend them 1000%. read more

I wish I could give this a zero score . This is the worst facility I have ever encountered. My mom passed away under their 'care'. She was in respiratory distress most of the day until I got there after work and insisted a ambulance be called . Some of the nursing staff was extremely confrontational and the therapy department was a complete waste of space . Find another facility . Trust me on this one . Don't live with regrets like I am now . read more

I give the staff a 5, they were so good with my mother. She was not always the most cooperative person in the world, but they knew how to settle her down. My mother had been there on several occasions for rehab, each stay the staff were awesome with her. They treated her with such kindness and respect even though she herself was not always so respectful. My mother never hesitated when it was recommended for her to return for rehab, I even had her there for respite and again she never hesitated. She called it "home away from home". She spent her last days on this earth there and the staff were so supported to me and my family till they end, they were so gentle with her and attentive provided comfort to her so that she did not suffer in the end. The building is a little out dated, but a pretty building does not mean anything if the care is not good. If I was to say anything negative, it would be that a little more thought could go into the meals, other than that I would say I highly recommend this facility. read more

My 77 year old father was in this facility in 2018 for sub acute rehab and they were fantastic!!! He was there for a month, and they took every safety precaution w him to assure his safety and health was first. He arrived at Transitions after spending 7 days at the hospital for the flu. When he got to transitions, they practically quarantined him to keep the other patients safe from the flu. Anyone who entered his room, including staff/visitors had to wear gowns, masks, etc. The place was very clean and nicely decorated. They have craft rooms, a large multi-purpose room for church, with a piano, plus a tv for guests to watch together if desired, and a big dining room as well. My dad had a tv and phone in his room, and a huge window as well, and he could control the air conditioning/heat in his room also. They gave him physical therapy about 1-2 hours a day/ at least 5 days a week, then set up in home therapy and nurses after his release. He lost 8 pounds(which was needed) and they got his blood sugar controlled to a "T". He said the food wasn't too bad, and they brought him snacks, drinks sandwiches etc whenever he asked. Plus you can take food,drinks etc for them, and the staff will mark it and refrigerate it if necessary. They are the ones who actually got my dad to quit smoking too, after 60 years of it. They talked to him about quitting, then got him on the patch, and hes been a non smoker for 15 months now. I just can't say enough good about the facility. I know people have different experiences, and his was great, along with others we know that were there. I did my research first, before putting him in there, and my family Dr's nurse recommended them. I have no regrets what so ever, and would do it all again, but my father was only there for rehab and not a permanent resident, so maybe that made the difference. Just do your homework first. Ask around and even check places out in person, because it's your loved one and you want to know what kind of facility your putting them in. But I would recommend Transitions for sure if it's just for physical rehab. but I can't comment about a permanent care stay, because I don't know. read more

I would rather give a zero,the only plus is the Doctor of residence.I worried about the personal safety of my mother everyday she was there. I would come everyday and find her wet or in feces,no water except very warm,and oxygen was given at night at home but they never had her on it. My first impression was bad,as the night nurse came take her to the bathroom,,who is a male,became irate and nasty when my Mom did not want a male for personal care. He was rude and out of line and excuses were made for him after I filed a complaint,saying it was a personality dispute,lol! Hate to think what would have happened without an advocate present. I was there for 4 hrs and there was never a nurse to take her to the bathroom or ask if she needed anything. I changed her out of dirty clothes,cleaned her up,opened the unopened toothpaste and toothbrush,although she had been there for 4 days,and brushed her unbrushed hair. These people have no business working with a population that totally depends on them!!! If you need to find a place to feel safe for your loved ones ,go to the Brethren Home in New Oxford,you will never regret that choice....this choice is NOT the one!!! Deb S. read more
