I was on vacation for two weeks in Truro cape cod and 5 days into my family vacation my 2001 4 runner started to have issues with acceleration especially up hills. Several local mechanics indicated that it was an transmission issue but they didn't work on it. The closest place I could take it to was transmission specialist in Yarmouth. I spoke to Bob and he graciously and patiently listened to my plight and the symptoms of my problem. I was able to get my car to the shop and I was told what the issue was ..., it was not the worse case scenario and he told me to my relief that they would work on it and call me the next day. Honesty goes a long way. I was hearing some strange noises when accelerating in my Jeep and thought it could be a transmission issue. I was in the Yarmouth area and found Transmission Specialists on Yelp. I called and asked if I could take my car in for an assessment even though I did not have an appointment. To my surprise, Bob told me to bring it right in. Upon my arrival, Bob introduced himself and said he would take a look at my car. He drove it around for a good bit of time and then put it on a lift to take a closer look. After a thoroughly examining my Jeep, he came back in and told me it was NOT a transmission issue and that it was probably and engine mount problem. That's honesty and professionalism for you! He didn't charge me anything for this. As a consumer, I felt compelled to write a positive review for this place. If I do have transmission problems, then this would be the place I would bring my car. Even with my limited experience with Transmission Specialists, I highly recommend. read more

I had these guys look at my Ford Ranger for a transmission issue. They told me I did NOT have to replace the transmission. Instead, they performed a transmission service or something and now it runs fine. They did an overall inspection on the vehicle as well and pointed out a muffler problem waiting to happen. They referred me to a muffler shop. Transmission Specialists (Tom and Bob) are real professionals that provided honest service that is rare in todays culture and economy. read more

We were in Yarmouth MA visiting for a week. While there our transmission died. We luckily limped into Bob Newton's Transmission Specialists on a Monday. Bob immediately asked us our names and where we were from and said "I'm Bob". Before we even got down to business. Our car got repaired by Thursday and the cost seemed quite fair from all our research. Luckily for us we were staying directly across the street. Bob gave us an Enterprise rental car phone number and we got a car, continued with our vacation while Bob and his team worked on our car. Had some transmission work done here a couple of weeks ago and can say that i have been nothing but pleased. My drivetrain light came on intermittently and although I already had an idea of what the problem was I wanted to be certain before buying parts to replace myself. I stoped by the local ford dealership in the hope of getting a quick diagnostic, but they wanted at least 180$ just to look at it and offered an appointment 5 days out. I swung by transmission specialists under recommendation of a gentlemen at autozone and the yelp reviews. What luck! Bob was an extremely nice and professional gentleman. He diagnosed the problem for free and offered me an estimate that was beyond reasonable. I usually do most of my own car repairs, but the price he offered included only a couple hundred dollars in labor for a job that would have taken me at least a couple of days in my driveway with a jack. I have been driving the car daily and it has been awesome! The transmission has been super smooth! It will definitely be my first stop next time I need some repairs done that I can't handle myself! read more
