Apparently the owner was formerly with an extremely well-known auction house, and he possesses a vast wealth of knowledge on the subject matter. The staff is very friendly and more than willing to assist. During the short time that we visited, I saw a walking tour explaining the history of the bookstore/area and a few people discussing the topic of the day. I enjoyed perusing old editions of Life magazine and enjoyed the plenty of seating that was available. If you're ever in Ossining, don't hesitate to stop into Hudson Valley Books. I'm sure, that you'll find something worth purchasing.

I ended up leaving with three books: two for me, both from Irish authors I'd never heard of that I'm absolutely loving so far, and one for a friend's sick two year old and her daughter LOVED it - it was a really cool book about the seasons that opened into a globe and had great illustrations. I'd been in some time ago but don't remember the selection this good. Nice mix of new and well-priced used. Example, I paid under $10 for a Promo copy of Elvis Costello Blood and Chocolate in very nice, VG+/E condition. Good Jazz selections as well. They also had a nice selection of bootlegs which you don't see very often. They sell books and clothing which for me usually means it's not a serious store, but Main Steet Beat is the exception. Great staff well laid out and popular, the store has a nice vibe plus Nyack is a fun town to visit with great restaurants and a rich history.
