Although the system said they had a copy, they couldn't find it. Well, these folks searched up and down till they did and then called me back. That's A+ customer service. When I stopped by the shop was adorable. I hadn't known they do coffee as well and so had to enjoy a latte while I was there. But the central location is convenient, and offers a great selection of design, gardening, fashion, photography, and art books. Will you find the super rare or esoteric here? Probably not. But if you enjoy a good general browse, you will not be disappointed in the array of new releases, classic fiction, etc. While I absolutely prefer and rely on independent book sellers who are genuine cognoscenti, I don't expect that from the employees of a big chain. In all my visits to the store I have always been treated well. You do not get the kind of kid-glove or deeply informed assistance you might at The Strand, Rizzoli, Argosy, Three Lives & Company, etc. True, but B & N is convenient to us suburbanites. As long as you accept the baseline that you will find mostly mainstream publication products here, you won't be disappointed. As to value, the pricing is typical. But even at specialty and rare shops today it is difficult to find a bargain, everyone seems to use the internet to ascertain book values and prices. We stop in B & N frequently.
