These guys are ROCKSTARS who took OUTSTANDING care of my parents and their belongings!! From the moment I connected with Michael (longtime exec) and Wayne (owner), I knew we were in competent, caring, PROFESSIONAL hands. Such a relief. They understood the nuance of moving older people and the extra care they often need. (Understatement in our case!) Can't describe the overwhelming job it was downsizing my parents after 50 years. They were stressed to the max and in utter disarray when the team arrived. The crew - John, Harry, and Benjamin --was warm, organized, fast, fun to be around, and not a single item went missing, broken, or damaged. They even moved the piano. I cannot rave enough about this company!!! They arrived early, got right to work and were finished in what seemed like a blink of an eye! When they arrived, they each introduced themselves and requested a walk through to get a perfect understanding of what was getting packed and shipped from each room. Throughout the process they would double and triple check at times, to ensure nothing was packed that we weren't moving! The movers showed extreme care with all of our belongings as well as when moving them, and let me tell you, our home was not the easiest to navigate! When we arrived at our new house, they again did a walk through to get an understanding of what boxes went where. What blew me away was when we realized our initial plan for boxes and things needed to change, the movers adapted without so much as a heavy breath of displeasure. Really happy with their service and performance. I had about 8-10 quotes from other moving companies, ranging from internet based moving companies to the large recognized van lines. It got to the point where my parents (where half my my things were stored) told me that they weren't going to let anyone else in the house to help with a quote. So here I was, with 8-10 quotes, and Arpin (Transtar) was the last to get into my parents house. I had to make a choice. My move was in a few weeks.... we were going from Philly to a state down south, so it was a big move. I ruled out the internet based moving lines, despite the fact that they were the nicest and gave me the best price. However, I read really scary reviews where your things end up getting held hostage, movers never showing up, getting bills thousands above your initial quote, etc... so I decided not to take the chance with them. The large recognized national moving lines were fine, but they weren't very nice. They gave me a "take it or leave it" attitude, were pushy and very sale-sy and required a huge deposit of about $2k to "book" with them, so.... That left Transtar/Arpin. The sales guy was actually phenomenal. I don't know what it was about him but he just seemed honest. He wasn't trying to kiss my behind, he gave me a price that was comparable, and he just overall seemed to be down to earth-- and I'm a NY'er (lived there for 17 cumulative years since college) and I *think* I can spot bullsh** but you never know, right? To top it off.... of ALL the moving companies, they didn't require a deposit of a few thousand dollars!! I ended up choosing Transtar/Arpin, but second guessed myself constantly. What if they didn't show up? What if the people who showed up were unprofessional? What if? What IF?? It was driving me crazy. So on the day of the move, they arrived as promised. The driver was the same guy who drove all our stuff to our new place. Half the moving crew was also the same from start to finish. They were super professional and I'm SO glad I chose them. A few things in our boxes broke but it was our own fault for not packing it better. We may move again in a year or two... and I would definitely go with Arpin/Transtar moving again. read more

James and David are excellent movers. They worked fast, were friendly and treated my belongings as if they were their own. I have a peloton bike and I was extremely nervous about anyone touching it, they took excellent care of it and even helped me set it back up. They moved me out of a second story, 2br 2ba apartment into a second story condo in just four hours. My sales man, Michael, was also excellent. He communicated with me through out the entire process and his quote was exact. I will definitely use Transtar for future moves (hopefully not anytime soon lol) and referred both of my parents to them. read more

The day before the move one man was sent to pack he did a good job. The next day the moving crew arrived on time it consisted of four men I was to find out later that only one of them was an experienced mover. They were told to take everything in the house with very few exceptions outside there was a shed and there were a number of items there that were going to be left behind. Despite my simple instructions I was repeatedly asked many many times do we take this do we take that do we take this do we take that. God forbid any of them should write something down I had to repeat the same thing again and again and again take everything. One valuable item was left behind in the basement. I had to drive back there in my personal SUV and have someone help load it into my car as it was very heavy took most of the day. I did my best to check when they were done but I did not see it from the steps where I was standing. Delivery to the new house was an exercise in chaos I told him if it came from the basement it goes back in the basement if it came from the shed it goes in the garage and then I instructed them about which bedroom to put stuff in they did okay with that the basement and garage was repeatedly mixed up and some stuff from the basement and garage ended up in the bedrooms somehow. There was no rhyme or reason or logic to the way the items were placed in the garage and basement it's just a big disorganized mess. Also they were pretty slow and I ended up paying overtime hours. I haven't moved in over 30 years so maybe I just don't have realistic expectations. I would rate them fair at best. 3 stars out of 5. read more

The process of moving is both stressful and such a hassle. Fortunately, I was given a recommendation of a moving company that turned out to be terrific. From the first time we spoke to arrange the on-site review (for the moving quote) and then subsequent conversations arranging the move date were hassle free. When the pack up date arrived.........WOW ! The the driver prepped the house with runners and brought in boxes and wrapping paper............then a crew of four packed our house (over 3,500 sq ft) in less than one day. The following morning the driver arrived with a different crew to load the truck. The truck was loaded and on its way less than 7 hours.This was done professionally and with the utmost CARE. On the other end........less than 72 hours passed (from the time the van departed) and we were completely unloaded into our new home. I highly recommended this moving company! To start someone from the company came out to give us an estimate. He went over everything that needed to be moved, went over the extra charges for certain items that would need special wrapping as far as lamps, mirrors and our big screen TV. We chose to transport the lamps and mirrors ourselves but opted to have them safely wrap and move our TV. He put all the information in his IPad and had a portable printer so printed out our copy right there which I was impressed with. He also went over how the price could be more or less meaning the estimated number of boxes we gave him if it is less than estimated than we would pay less but if it was more they absolutely could accommodate that but the charge would be more which we understood but I appreciated him explaining it. Moving day came and they were on time! The guys came in, went over everything that was going and started to work. They were extremely professional and moved fast. They arrived at 8am and had everything off the truck at our new place by 12 noon! This was the smoothest move I ever made! Also for an extra fee they can PACK EVERYTHING FOR YOU!! To me that was the most stressful part, buying the boxes, packing materials, tape etc and packing it all up....our next move I am definitely paying them to do all of that! 5 STARS!!!! July 8, 2014 We hired these movers to help us pack our household. Rather than remove the bumper from my 6-month old son's crib to pack it, they cut the cloth ties, destroying my property. I would NEVER use this company again. They moved my mattress onto their truck without a protective bag or box, immediately after telling me they'd use both, staining and permanently damaging the sides and corners. A lie to my face. I would NEVER use this company again. They **shattered** a dining chair made of solid wood moving from their truck to their warehouse. And damaged the one specific piece of furniture I explicitly told them was of significant value, denting the sides and corners. I would NEVER use this company again. read more

I used this company four years ago to move. They were professional, on time, and when a issue arrises they problem solved and came up with a solution. So when i moved this time I didn't even bother calling around to get other estimates and schedule Transtar. Unfortunately this time around I was disappointed. The two man crew they sent me was unmotivated and lazy The original quote was for a four hour move which they went over by 1.5 hours and charge me extra for. There was several items left behind that now I have to to figure out how to move. When the truck supposedly was fully pack I ask them what are they going to go with the items left behind. The response I got back was " you have a truck just move it yourself " They claim the original estimate was underestimated. Which became there main excuses. Having been a mover myself in my younger years I made some suggestions that fell on deaf ears. Moving is stressful I needed movers to problem solve not make excuse. I recommend to anyone who is moving to pick your movers carefully and look elsewhere when it comes to transtar. read more

I am writing this review on here, after speaking with the company reps, and I can tell you this is categorically one of the worst moving companies, on par with a local guy with a truck. Some issues we had: 1) They sent the wrong size truck. So at 10pm at night on the 3rd day of packing, they had to unload everything b/c it did not all fit. Driver/foreman told his boss at the beginning of the job, but was told he was wrong. 2) They "wrote down the wrong day" for the delivery on the other side. This was a large interstate move, our very small, toddler and preschooler were sent to my mom's house to manage the move and the whole thing turned into a logistical nightmare. 3) no pads or cardboard put down until we made a fuss. I've never seen that before. and the crew dinged our doorways. most of the guys they sent were not professional movers, just box lifters 4) Left our things in the rain. Enough said. 5) Personalities were really strong and combative/unprofessional; stressful to have people like that in your house. 6) we were a corporate move/which was a whole new level of crazy because there were multiple managers and coordinators involved and they did not all speak to each other. Case in point: We were "homeless" for a week because the coordinator told us that is how long it would take to get our stuff from Philly suburbs to Baltimore suburbs. Afterwards, it turns out that was incorrect and we could have had our things right away. Not a Fan. EDITED 9/4/15: Mmmm. No. I pretty much stayed on the phone with our move coordinator and yet another supervisor in NJ the entire time and they admitted that all the above were inappropriate, but that doesn't change the facts. This company is a disaster, and the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, as response below shows. Pretty important requirement for a company in THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS. Very disappointed! We used Transtar for several moves. The movers seemed experienced. The insurance was not completely explained and they ended up wrecking an expensive modern chair. The chair was stored in their warehouse for several days before delivery. Then, they said because I didn't opt for additional insurance, they only had to pay 60 cents per pound or computed by them ---$60! The chair was worth $3500. Part of this move was paid for by the US government, thus more fully insured! Please ask lots of questions! Customer service had some excuse about government regulations on paying for damaged goods! I would urge anyone reading this review to stay far away from Transtar Systems. I chose Transtar on the recommendation of a colleague who had no issue with them but reading the reviews here I see my experience was not unique. I will start with the good since it is the shortest part of my experience. Patrick's estimate was significantly lower than the final bill I was presented with when my furniture was delivered. I spoke to a representative of Transtar and between us we were able to reach a compromise that was satisfactory to each of us. For that I was grateful. Unfortunately, that was the only part of my transaction that I consider a good experience. The company sent 2 employees to pack on Friday. They arrived early and were polite and competent. They however ran out of supplies before they finished their packing. Patrick had told us a number of items could remain in drawers but the packers said he was wrong. The following day (Saturday) the truck arrived early and 4 employees came into the house to start loading. They had to divide their attention between loading and finishing the packing that had been left incomplete from the prior day. As they were loading their action was more typical of teenagers having fun than adults doing a job. The driver had to tell them to get back to work on numerous occasions. Once 2 of them were arguing so forcefully that my wife told them to take it outside before they came to blows in the house. They were in the house for 12 hours and when they left the inside of the house was a total disaster. There were empty tape rolls, packing material, cut down boxes and remnants of their snacks and lunch all over the floor. I had to hire someone to clean up the mess they left. Transtar delivered the goods the following Wednesday. Again there were 4 employees including one who had been with the truck since it left our old home. There was much less fooling around, in fact they were rushing to finish unloading so they could get to their next delivery. In their haste they failed to check inventory tags with the master inventory list, missing a number of items. They also were careless when they brought items into our house, newly constructed. 2 walls had to be repainted to fix scrapes and scratches they left as they rushed to bring furniture into the house. The biggest problem had to do with what they took out of the old house and failed to deliver to the new one. We had a few boxes located in a closet we would be bringing in our own vehicle. They had been told to leave the boxes where they were but when the truck left, the boxes were gone. I assume they forgot or one of them had not been told and I expected to see the boxes on their arrival. As I stated, they did not arrive. The one box that was most concerning contained a number of valuable items. Passports, birth certificates, social security card, collector stamps and coins, automobile titles. And 6 generations of my wife's antique jewelry. Transtar claimed no knowledge of the items. Their explanation was so illogical as to be funny but we were not laughing. They first claimed the box had never been on the truck since it wasn't on the master inventory list. There were numerous line items described as only 'carton' but they were certain none of those items was the box in question. The next paragraph blamed us since we didn't fill out the excess valuation certificate. If we knew they had put the box on the truck we certainly would have, but why would they expect me to fill out such a form for an item they swore wasn't on the truck. Patrick used the $100k insurance policy they offered as a bonus in his sales presentation. I filed a claim and found the policy covered items damaged in transit but items lost and/or stolen - not so much. Transtar only gave the briefest lip service to the police investigation even though they stated they would offer their full cooperation. Their final word was that if I expected anything from them I would have to take my concerns to court. Stay far away from Transtar. read more

I hired Transtar to do a local move. First let me say that the movers themselves (sub-contractors) were both good, (with one being exceptional), as the move was from an upstairs apartment to another upstairs apartment and he really worked hard getting all of my boxes up and down those stairs and all of my items survived intact. My complaint with this company was with the way the moving costs were estimated, which left me feeling as though I had been purposely mislead. When I initially moved into my apartment I had received a flat rate estimate for the moving job from the company I used at that time, so I made the assumption that the estimate I was receiving from Transtar was the same, and the estimator never explained that it was not. The estimate actually turned out to be a "ball park" hourly rate figure, which was, according to the person I spoke with at the company, dependent upon many factors including the strength, skill and stamina of the movers; traffic, weather or any other conditions that as a client I have no control over, which I was not made aware of until the cost of the job went up because it took an hour longer than the original numbers of hours estimated and I was hit with an additional $115 in fees. My issue with this as a customer who up until a month ago was low-income, has a strict budget and hates surprises, is that the original estimate was fairly priced, so I did not get any other estimates from other moving companies making the decision to go with Transtar on the spot. Had the estimator told me that the real price of the job could be anywhere between 4-6 hours depending on conditions, or estimated the job at the highest possible number of hours instead of the lowest, I would have called other moving companies to get other quotes. After an unpleasant discussion with customer service I paid the bill, (feeling fortunate that I actually could without having to sacrifice a payment on another bill) but I am left feeling that either the estimator either does not know his job, was so sure of his estimate that it never occurred to him the job would run over or deliberately came in low so as to look more competitive. Either way I was the one that paid the price. I am not saying that I would not have ultimately chosen to use Transtar depending on the other quotes, but the way they handled the situation has made certain that I will never use them again. UPDATE: Thank you Bill for so thoughtfully pointing out your policies to me again but here is the problem; the move took a total of 5 hours including travel time. The movers arrived at 9:30 AM and left at 2:30 PM. They worked for 4 hours with a total of 1 hour travel between apartments. Yet I keep being told by your company that somehow it was a 6 hour job which is why I owed you extra money, because rather than look into what went wrong, you keep quoting me policy to explain why you are are right. The paperwork was filled out incorrectly, with the mover putting down the total time without realizing that the travel time slot already had a number in it, but no one on your end is willing to listen or truly look into the matter because you are so certain that the mistake could not possibly be yours, and that I am just a whiny client who begrudges hardworking folks a "water break". The truth is that I was overcharged for the job. read more

i preface this review with the fact that i have moved at least 13 times in the last two decades. out of all of the professional movers i've used, transtar has been the absolute best, bar none. bill miller and his crew were astounding. we underestimated our box count by about 40. bill and co didn't even flinch. they just got it done, super quickly, with NO damage to anything, whatsoever. we had ridiculous items like two crates filled with weights, and a heavy/speed bag set up. ok - so, my husband and i couldn't lift these crates TOGETHER. these guys carried each crate on their own. shortly thereafter, another one trekked on through with our heavy bag (about 100 lbs alone). though i dont advocate for making things super heavy on purpose, it is amazing that these guys can handle what you've got, no questions asked. on top of all of that, everyone somehow maintained a calm, cheerful demeanor. what movers smile when they're carrying a hundred lb bag?! transtar movers! it is almost as if they thrive on the physical activity. i'd never heard of transtar. i'd been using another mover for my last few moves. i picked transtar, on a random recommendation from a friend, and i'm going to go with transtar from here on out. thanks to bill and the rest of the transtar team!! you turned a horrible experience into a fun filled memory. read more

Horrible company, I would not spend one dime with them. The movers that packed up our house were fast, polite and efficient, however lacked organization which led to us not having pieces of our furniture for almost a month, which the company did nothing about. The movers that moved us in simply made my blood boil. They stood around on the truck cracking jokes, playing with our possessions, throwing things to one another. In the first 2 hours they were at our house, they maybe moved in 2 big items and 10 boxes and there were 4 of them. It took them an hour to even open up the truck. When I tried to help them by unloading, they refused to let me on the truck with my own stuff! All my furniture has dings in it now, it took longer than expected for both days, and the owner of the company called to give me a song and dance about how transparent he was and wanted to rectify the situation, but when I asked for money back because of the terrible service, he just kept giving me the same speech. If I ever move again, I would not even consider this company. Everything about moving is stressful, movers shouldn't be. I could have moved myself better than these fools. read more

We used Arpin Van Lines (dba Transtar) to move across country. The price tag was hefty, but less expensive than the big boys. The local rep was very kind, offering up used boxes free of charge, even brought them over. The problem arose with putting in a claim. All movers will damage your goods, its just how they handle the claim that sets the company apart from others. I submitted my claim, and a week or so later received the "ruling" on what they were going to cover and what they were not. Along with the "ruling" was a brochure on how you can arbritrate their decision. The part that angered me was a few things didn't arrive. And it was my "responsibility" to ensure everything was unloaded from a 3000 sq ft home, full basement and 3 car garage with 5 packers/ unloaders. Yet they took no ownership that their inventory list was incorrect. Humm, that was my responsibility too!!! So for a lousy $70 clay pot, I will trash their name on more than several websites... Buyer beware, or at least know what is required during a move of this magnitude! read more

We had the move from hell with Transtar at the end of June. Our estimator was impressive and helpful. The person in their office who handles correcting damage to one's houses and possessions was very helpful. Transtar did allow us to have some used boxes which we thought was helpful. The movers came on time with the President, Wayne, in attendance. Of course, he left to head for another move. Turns out part of his crew had been hurt. We ended up with a crew chief who may have been in training to be a chief who never entered our house--he stayed on the truck. That left us with 5 movers: two who had experience, two who had just started that summer, and one who was just starting and was useless. The move took 14 hours and was estimated for 8 hours and we ended up packing more than we had thought we would and our family moved boxes and breakables the day before that had been in the estimate. This crew damaged our furniture, made holes in our walls from their ineptitude, took apart an armoire because they could not figure out how to get it down the steps (to this day it does not work properly), damaged many walls and massacred a whole door frame while tearing both sides of a leather chair and moving a sofa bed out of one room. They, too, damaged the basement stairwell walls trying to move an elliptical. The move should have been over at 4:00 p.m.; the house was not even empty then and we had no major applicances to move. Upon calling Wayne, who was overseeing another move (the company was obviously short-staffed that day and we got the very short end of the stick) he finally got to our site well after 5. Wayne did get things moving, but the move should have already been completed. In addition, our buyers wanted at walk-thru that night which was impossible due to all the damage and had the potential to put the buy in peril. Transtar did have a man out at around 5:30 a.m. the next day who miraculously repaired damage and matched colors with a special thanks to our daughter-in-law who met him at that ungodly hour to get it completed. When we arrived at our new house around 7 p.m., the same shoddy workmanship continued and a few men from another crew worked for an hour. Our brand new house was damaged just as our beloved previous home had been; while we directed the movers where to put things, they put them where they wanted and left some in the garage and some in our utility room. Two inexperienced young men took over 45 minutes to put together a twin bed frame which needed to be corrected by someone else. They slid our furniture on brand new wood floors and did amazing damage; they didn't cover the front door until they were asked, they did not cover the wood entrance hall and hallway floor until they were asked. We had utter chaos when they left and we could see all the errors of their ways. Then Wayne appeared around 10:00 p.m. and informed us that the moved had taken 14 hours and began to tell us how much that would cost. We were exhausted but knew enough to know we were not paying more than the estimate and probably should have been paying less since we and our family did more than we had planned on. Whoever got the other movers that day who knew what they were doing, were very lucky. Six months later we have just completed having all the damage repaired and our time to coordinate and be present for repairs was never even taken into consideration.
