We walked around this ghost town in a gentle mist on a dark evening in the late fall and it was full of ghosts. It was eerie, empty and awesome. We were alone and nobody was there and nothing was open....that is until we saw the lights on at this taverna. We walked in, no ghosts, but a friendly woman instead. I'm glad we found this place. It was mushroom week, and many funghi specialities were available. We had mushrooms, mushroom pasta with truffle on top, and more mushrooms. One of our best meals in Italia! Nice local wine too. And as the night wore on, more and more people came in and ate dinner. This definitely became the hot spot in this ghost town. Wonderful place. We will definitely come back whenever in the area again. Castell Arquato is amazing. Definitely worth the drive from Milano.

For appetizers, we had a degustation of Parmigiano and a separate plate of local hams. The quality of products was high and we enjoyed a lot (but be aware that it is really more of a degustation so that quantities are small). In the region, you can eat a special type of very greasy ham with fried polenta and this specialty was also part of the degustation, along with normal Parma, and some sausage. For Parmigiano, we were served 4 different types, one with honey, one spicy (surprising texture and taste), and two other different maturation time. So, as you already know, pastas were amazing: we had some mushrooms ones which may sound quite common but they were delicious. It was part of the suggestions of the day. We also had some raviolis filled with ricotta with asparagus and ham: again a quite common recipe but the taste was really really good!

Ordered cured meats with special bread "gnocco fritto", cappellacci (like raviolis, hand made to purposely look irregular in shape), with speck (smoked ham) and radicchio. Just divine. To boost my cholesterol levels, I could not miss baby pig's cheeks marinated in spices. To kill myself good 'n through on my bdy I went for sour cream cheesecake & Malvasia vin santo (a liquorous aged wine). First, despite my last visit here has been 5 years ago, they recognized, remembered, and welcomed me when I arrived! Service has been perfect, location is excellent, the wine list, with 60 pages from all Regions and Countries, can satisfy all preferences.
