Come earlier than we did, especially if you are trying to make the day efficient by visiting the city and as many of the surrounding roman ruins. The pappardelle with mushrooms and sausage was excellent. My dad tried a bit of it and promptly ordered his own. The sauce was just right, flavorful without being too heavy. Being a Brit, I wanted to sit outside (I would have been the only one), but this was no problem and Antonio swiftly laid up a table for me. There is a pleasant view of the Garibaldi Theatre from the front terrace of the restaurant. I was pining for a good tomato salad, and boy did they deliver! So good that I snapped it and the result is in the pics attached. But this was not before I had taken their mixed antipasti - always a good way to judge the mettle of an Italian restaurant; my policy is to order the antipasti misti only to start, and if they are good, I will place an order for mains; if bad, I cash up and go. In this case, I was brought a sumptuous plate of local produce - green and black marinated olives, salami and salsicce, artichoke hearts marinated in lemon and oil, raw mushrooms, roast peppers and courgettes, melanzane grigliate con mozzarella. By the time I'd finished, I could barely manage a small portion of pappardelle with rabbit sauce. Indoors, chef was keen to know how was the food, and Antonio wanted me to see the reproduction mosaics that adorned the ceiling of the restaurant. The toilets were faultless. The funny thing about Italy and Sicily, some of the restaurants can be fickle. The staff are there and could kind of care less about helping a foreigner. Not at Tiffany's. You can tell this is a family restaurant where they care about the artisanship of crafting food for generations. They do this for the love of it. The owner came out and explained everything on the menu to help us. I ended up telling him I wanted his best pizza with meat. Twenty minutes later out came the most perfect sausage and mushroom neapolitan wood fired pizza I have ever had in my life. It literally melted in my mouth. We took the full tasting menu, one of us couldn't eat garlic but this did not represent a problem: Pino simply made 5 different servings for her. Our fault: we didn't mention while booking. Waiters and maitre were kind and polite, chef was charming, willing and helpful. You can't miss La madia if you visit southern sicily.
