We asked our cab driver today for a dinner place that he would go to and he sent us here saying 'it won't be formal but you will eat very well'. He wasn't wrong. We made a reservation for 8pm. There were plenty of people inside despite the pouring rain when we arrived. I had already noticed on their website two dishes they were known for and of course I had to order those. Gnocchi allá Val varaita (gnocchi in a cheese sauce made from two kinds of cheese) and whatever their translation of 'mixed fried Piedmontese' is. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be fried seafood and they brought me two giant fried cheese balls but that's fine it was delicious none the less. We also got grilled mixed veggies and gnocchi with ragu(meat sauce). All items were excellent. Note that gnocchi is very filling so plan accordingly. Staff was very nice, but they were very busy. Service was super quick we got our gnocchi within 5-7 min of ordering. The whole meal from the time we sat down to the time we paid took 50 minutes. This a home cooking kind of place. No frills, just good food. Pretty sure the dishes were plastic but bread and crostini for your meal are plentiful. They have plenty of 'fancy' wine for 12-18€ per bottle, house wine is poured from a giant unmarked jug into a pitcher and brought to your table that way. There are families having dinner and groups of older, locals as well some single older men. All walks of life came in there and I can see why, for the food. read more
