I've eaten here multiple times. The wait staff is extremely friendly. And their food is just as good. I can tell you that, as a tiramisu connoisseur, they have the BEST homemade tiramisu I've had in the world. I judge an Italian restaurant by its veal parmesan. Trattoria Santo Stefano's is TOP NOTCH... although it goes by the name "Piccata Milanese con spaghetti al pomodoro" here. Their pizza here is also fantastic! I've gotten their "Fegato di vitello alla Veneziana con polenta cremosa" (Veal Liver and Onions) a couple times, and I loved it. But I can tell you that my FAVORITE Gelato in Vienna is served here: "Gelato alla vaniglia con balsamico, mandorle tostate e cialde", which is vanilla gelato with balsamic vinegar swirls, roasted almonds and round wafers. I was starving when I stumbled upon this restaurant. So when I ordered, I just picked the first thing that stood out of the menu to me. I went for their spaghetti, of course. The noddles were cooked to perfection. It left the noodles with the perfect texture. It was bouncy and soft. The flavors were very simple but very delicious. I highly recommend their spaghetti. I also ordered some pizza. The pizza is very much an individual size. It's late enough as a sharing appetizer dish if you order two other dishes for main course. The pizza sauce makes the pizza dough a bit soggy. However, the sauce actually makes the pizza more flavorful and more delicious. The service was great. I do have to mention that the server noticed that we were Americans so he told us to leave him a tip.... This is not America, it is not customary for customers to leave tips in Europe... I felt that he was taking full advantage of us. If we were going to tip him, we would. Of course, we did not end up tipping him because he was trying to swindle us out of money. So Americans beware of this restaurant's ethics. read more

I am coming here very often, because of their Lasagna and their prices. They have the best lasagna I have eaten out of Italy for 8,80 - around the corner of Stephanplatz! The food was decent (no homemade pasta though) but the waiter kept insisting on getting a tip. BEWARE - they charge € 1.60 per person for cover charges that include your napkin, bread, butter & parmesan cheese i f you sit inside. The waiter asked us where we were from and we answered from the USA. Then he asked if in the US we did not leave a tip as well. I told him we do leave a tip but not if we have to pay for silverware and cover: a total of €4.80 for 3 people. We were not charged that fee when going yesterday night to Reinthaler right across the street. Apparently it is legal in Austria to charge the cover fee but only if this is written on the menu or displayed in the restaurant. read more

Excellent service and great quality food. We had the cold antipasto bar which contained numerous selections of cold salads, some seafood, some vegetables, very nice selection. Two of us ordered the Wiener schnitzel special, one the truffle oil pasta. All meals were excellent. We ended with the profiteroles which were uniquely rolled in a chocolate mousse, fantastic! Good selection of wine and beer as well. Our waiter was very nice and very friendly. We would definitely recommend and definitely return. read more

Dinner time. When we entered the restaurant we were approached by a waiter, to wohm we asked for a table. After looking up and down to us for three times without looking us in the eyes, and checking our casual all day tourist outfit (polo shirts, denim trousers and sneakers) he tried to offer us a table in kind of downgraded, second class room they have aside the main room with different furniture, different ambiance, different everything. Checking several free tables in the main room we asked if we could be seated in the main room. After making sure we saw his discontempt with our request he agreed to give us a table in the main room. When we sat down and after that little scene form the waiter, we were surprised to check how casual the other guests were. We wondered if our "problem" was our 8 year old...Really bad way to "welcome" guests and to introduce what should have been a nice experience. Following to the food me and my wife we both asked for fried squid. What can say...it was good they had placed some bread and butter on the table (for which we paid 4.5 € without having asked for it) or otherwise we would have to look for a second meal somewhere else, so much they have spared on the quantity of the food. For the 14€ a dish, the amount of the portion was ridiculously small, adding to the fact the food was at most average on quality and presentation. At the end we decided to leave a 5% tip to our table waiter, just because he had been normally nice (when compared with his first colleague) but appatently that was not enough for him as he nodded sarcastically when he saw he was receiving a 2.5 Eur tip. For us this was already too much for an experience tjat should worth 0€ tip. We regret we were naive enough to even leave a tip. Bad service, below average food for above average prices. After all just another facet of the generalized unwelcoming and unfriendly hosting attitude Viena offers its rather massified tourism. read more

Tried the macaroni with red sauce and pepper and enjoyed it. Maybe considered as more of a kids meal, but it was only 7 euros. The bread they bring you was really good too, however, they didn't inform us it was 4.50 euros to get more and when we requested more they just brought it without informing us. read more

We are Americans and we stopped by this restaurant because everything else was full. It was a very good choice. The food was amazing. The salmon pasta was good as was the risotto and house wines. Christmas Eve dinner here was very lovely in an Italian fare restaurant. Service was excellent! Prices were moderate, with menus posted outside so you can decide before you enter the restaurant. Bread was baguette: fresh, good quality and very typical of french/italian fare (which is why I think other reviews didn't like the bread or thought it was stale). Real butter only was served. I had the Minestrone soup, which was an excellent onion & beef broth with lots of vegetable bits. My sister had a lovely pasta dish (rigatoni?) and I enjoyed a very good lasagna. All food was obviously homemade (made in house) and of very good quality. For dessert, we chose the chocolate torte, which was also very good quality. We couldn't eat everything, so our waiter kindly packed leftovers in an easy to carry, pretty white bag for take away. Excellent experience with service and food! Location is very convenient, also. They are affiliated with a hotel attached but the entrance is on the street. read more

Outstanding food and service. Was craving some Italian food while staying in Vienna and this hit the spot nicely!

Very cozy, nice people, good service. The pizza and wine was very good. If you don't want Schnitzel this a great option.
