A couple days ago I had occasion to be in Abilene, TX, not really by choice as I was lost and…read moretrying to get back home to Arizona, but I did hear the wonderful old song "Abilene" by George Hamilton IV (from 1963!) on SiriusXM as I was driving aimlessly about Texas, a rather large state ("It's like a whole other country!"). My cell phone was not working, and I was rather rattled as I was an older woman traveling alone and these days that seems a bit scary, especially when you don't have a way to call 911 from the road. Also no one sells maps anymore. :( This extremely friendly, smiley, helpful young woman working in the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau was my angel in disguise. She gave me a Texas map -- for free! (they're ginormous like the state) -- and also an Abilene map and even highlighted it and gave me written directions to their local Verizon store so that I could try to get my phone working again. She even let me call home to tell my hubby that I was all right and where I was at and headed. Thank you, lovely person, in "Abilene, prettiest town I've ever seen/Women there don't treat you mean/in Abilene, my Abilene"! Forever indebted, Joan

Old enough that the gold door fixtures to the rooms were significantly scratched and tarnished. When you drive up under the carport the dead shrubbery set the tone. Not only that, cigarette butts, and a carport that hadn't be blown off and smelled a bit like an ashtray. The door to the room,115, looked pretty dirty. Lots of smudges and hand prints. Bathroom was pretty dirty in the corners, missing tile in the bathroom, posted pics on the booking.com website where we booked the property for the night. Dead cricket in the corner of entry to the room. Just saying, the owners of the property might want to give the facility some love and spruce it up. Throughout our 18 day trip we end up staying at multiple Holiday Inn Express properties. By far, this one really needs some owner and property management love to come up to the standard of the other Holiday Inn Express properties we stayed at.

I had a small spider and ants in my bathroom on day 1, told front desk and they didn't offer to move me just offered to spray. Came back to clean smelling room but ants still found in bathroom. Then at night, found a giant cricket in bathroom. Call front desk and was told no other rooms available, all sold out and nothing they can do.

We used to go to the great bar every week for happy hour, and their trivia game. It was a blast! Then I quit drinking. We used to go to the restaurant at least 3 times a month, but then COVID shut down the buffet. I loved the Sunday Prime Rib and Shrimp buffet! So sad. Well, fast forward to now. I'm trying to make reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet. I've tried to contact this person 5 days in a row. She will not return my call. She's not there when I go to the hotel. Is it worth the trouble? This experience has put a bad taste in my mouth. MCM, you can do better!
