I had a very frustrating experience with Whistle Stop RV Resort in Abilene. I did not stay for the full duration of my reservation and was told I would receive a refund. It has now been 3 weeks, and I still have not received anything. I have called multiple times and keep getting different answers -- that it's up to "corporate" or that a check has already been sent, yet nothing has arrived. One staff member (Meagan) was especially rude and dismissive when I tried to get an update, which made the situation even worse. Lisa was the only person who showed kindness and professionalism, but unfortunately she is no longer there. At this point, I am simply asking for the refund that was promised. I hope management takes this seriously and resolves it immediately. read more

My wife and I needed a spot for a quick overnight stay and chose the Whistle Stop RV Resort in Abilene. We were pleasantly surprised with this park. It has very easy access, clean, and very nice amenities. We were a late arrival and had no problem at all checking in since they made it extremely easy. If we every come through Abilene again, we will definitely stay here. read more

Had a long spot which was great. But other people have left their sewer hoses open. Our area stinks. Friends in other row have same stink. Stickers in weed/grass so watch your shoes and pet paws. Fun outdoor games area and very clean for sure. read more

We had a mixed experience at this campground. The woman we spoke with during booking was friendly and professional, and the campground itself was well-kept with respectful, quiet campers. Unfortunately, the location is directly beside the highway, which resulted in significant road noise throughout our stay. The biggest drawback for us was a large 5G cell tower located very close to our campsite. Had we been aware of how close the tower was, we would not have booked, given our personal health concerns regarding these towers. Overall, the staff and grounds were nice, but the highway noise and proximity of the cell tower were major factors that affected our experience. read more

We called and were able to secure a spot for our return home. The day we arrived it was smooth transition. It is a lovely well kept park.

Average rating for the following reasons: 1. Pricey, so everything should work properly 2. WIFI was nonexistent at our spot, even though the resort says that it has WIFI. You have to be close enough to the router to have WIFI. 3. Lights on the tennis/pickleball court did not work, so couldn't play in the evening after the temperature cooled down, because it was too dark. 4. Someone put a heavy swing at one end of the pickleball court, which made it a danger to play. 5. Our air conditioner kept blowing a fuse each time we turned it on. We finally had to give up, even though the temperature in our rig was as hot as it was outside (over 100 degrees) read more

Real nice RV park. Always enjoy our stays here. We're here for our West Texas Chapter, Heartland Owners Club rally. This event has been held here for about 3 years running. All in all, we really like Whistle Stop RV Resort. Some of what I like about this place: - Easy on/off from I-20 - Nearby shopping and movie theater - Good AT&T and Verizon cell service (cell tower on property) - Friendly staff - Well stocked camp store - Super nice clubhouse with full kitchen and restrooms - Fitness room - Covered Picnic area - Horseshoe pits - Outdoor pool (closed at the moment) - Other outdoor games area (Pickleball, volleyball and more) - Nice deep back-in sites - Nice, very long pull-through sites - Concrete patios on some sites - Firepits and chairs on some sites - Dog Park - Bathhouses - Included WiFi - Included Cable TV Some of what I don't care so much about: - Dusty gravel roads (paved interior roads are super expensive, so I understand why the gravel) - Wind! Dusty dusty dusty!!! White rock the owners know, kicks up dust no matter how slow you go. Many signs saying slow no dust 10 mph. Abilene is known for being a windy city. Add a dusty rock choice for all roads and areas in the RV park and you're asking for disaster. No attempt to water small grass spots. I'm very familiar with West Texas and how dry it is and other climate challenges. Bathroom codes were wrong. Our premium site was of course laden in dust. The site came with a table and 4 chairs. A grill and fire ring were provided. The fire ring was not cleaned. There was trash in the ring including a beer can. The table and chair set was very dusty. The grill was dusty, and the fire ring was dusty. Even with windy days and dusty rocks around the site, if the owners had hosed the area down a few hours before arrival, it would have been welcoming. The worn out faded chair cushion needed to be trashed. The dried up weed grass had not been trimmed. They did not prepare for our visit and that was disappointing. A paved entrance and roads in the park would have helped tremendously!! read more

Currently staying here very clean and spacious. It is a little bit more expensive than others in the area but I feel like it's worth it long term. The roads and parking spots are gravel and very close to level. read more

Beautiful clean park with welcoming staff. Wide gravel spaces with concrete pad and acrylic table. Spacious dog area with seats for owner. Dog wash area also available. Easy on and off ramps for I 20 close. Yet not that noisy. Did not hear any planes or trains. Best night's sleep in days! Will definitely be back! read more

What a pleasant surprise this campground was. The staff are incredibly organized and thorough (I liked the folder with all the information in it!). Yes, there are a lot of rules - but nothing ridiculous and if that is what it takes to have a nice, clean, and safe campground, it's a great trade off. They really have thought about the little details that make a stay nice. Let's talk about the showers... what a great layout and I didn't realize how much of a difference that big counter would make! Now I'm spoiled and so disappointed with other campground bathrooms when they don't have a nice big counter to set my stuff on. Also, I truly would love to know what they use to clean their showers because those things looked brand new! My husband appreciated the high shower head. We had a nice pull through site that was level. The whole campground was very clean. read more

Excellent place to stop for a night or stay a while We didn't use any of the ammenities but they had a nice swimming pool and the office had a store. We got a premium site that was on an end and was a pull through which was excellent, just the right size for our trailer. The office was super nice, they were so efficient with our reservation. We came in late and we got a text with all the information we needed and a folder was in the office foyer for us to pick up when we arrived. It even had the path for us to drive to pull into our site the easiest way. Super nice attention to detail. We were so tired we stayed a second night. After 3800 miles of driving throughout the Midwest searching for a restroom compliant with ADA disabled access, what a tremendous challenge. We had several folks answering the phone and had no clue what I was talking about. For those who may not know, ADA stands for "Americans with disability act" passed by the Carter administration. I was surprised how buttoned up the whistle stop RV resort is with respect to ADA compliance and more importantly a sensitivity towards those with disabilities. This is a true BIG rig friendly park. The staff is very friendly and the park is well taken care of with large level spaces with a nice green yard between every space. In addition the full hook ups with cable and WiFi. The streets and spaces may be gravel but they are well compacted and wide for easy maneuvering. The Whistle Stop RV Resort is conveniently located with easy access to Highway 20 in beautiful Abilene Texas. There is a movie theater near by as well as a Super Walmart. You want more Whistle stop RV Resort has it including a nice play area for kids as well as fenced area for the furry four legged family members. More you ask, how about clean bathrooms, a laundry facility and even a small convenience store. Yes friend The Whistle Stop RV Resort has it all at very fare pricing. read more

Yearly visitor since this park first opened. Wonderful staff and facilities. Always pleasant and helpful during check-in with advice about the local area if needed. Actually 4.5 now and would be a 5 if sites were concrete or asphalt rather than gravel but still not bad or big problem. Just a personal preference. read more

Definitely not a resort. Concrete and white powdery sand everywhere. No trees or plants. Grass is dead. Guess I will not consult the Good Sam Trailer Life book anymore. This is not a 10/10/10 park in my opinion. Also did not come up in rv gps. read more

This place is so on point. Very spacious with nice sized spots. The place was very clean and everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed the pool and just sitting outside in the evening. Great access to I-20 and restaurants and shopping. Absolutely would stay here again if we were coming through Abilene! read more

Wonderful stay, wide open space so satellite can be used. Clean sites, wonderful bathroom/shower units our dog Kimber enjoyed being chased in the dog run area. After looking around, it's sad our stay will just be an overnighter. Pool looks great and they do have entertainment options to play. We have been traveling through some of the southern states. We always try to make our reservations at least a couple of days in advance so we can get a pull- thru. That way we don't need to disconnect our car and can be on the road. We called this place 2 days in advance for a pull thru and they said they had one. When we got here they said they have no reservation for us. We showed them our phone history to show they were the only place we call that day. They did not care, they said they could NOT give us a pull thru spot but can give us a back in, which meant we had to disconnect. We looked all night and they had plenty of pull thru spots. We will never come back and not recommend them either. They put us in the worst spot clear in the back. Also their roads are terrible they bring this like white mud or dirt into your motor home. read more

The campground was very convenient. Close to the city And right off the exit. Very clean and quiet.

Although we had a really really bad week last week we were very blessed to have stayed where we did. Not only did the 2 separate tow truck drivers recommend this place but the police woman who came to our accident also did. The Whistle Stop RV campground went above and beyond for us! When we arrived unannounced with the tow truck the office manager Amy Solesbee was so sweet, caring and empathetic to my distraught state of mind. The office was closed but she opened up for me and put us in a beautiful spot. The best surprise of all was being told that the pool was open - considering what we just went through this was the exact distraction that we needed! The campground was so pleasant, the pool so nice, management so kind and guests so friendly that we never felt the need to leave. Not only did it make a bad week a little better to deal with, I also walked away with a new friend If you are ever planning on Abilene, TX (or unplanned) I can't recommend this place enough! read more

This was a great RV campground. The only thing missing is mature trees but as this looks to be a new campground I guess they just have to grow with time. The rest rooms were the best and by far the nicest I've ever been in at a campground. read more

We stayed here for 7 days for my grandson's rodeo. I can't say enough good things about this RV stop. Very clean and well kept. The restrooms were spotless. The laundry room was clean and easy to use. Great dog area for my dog and even a pet wash. The pool was clean and refreshing. My grandson loved playing pickle ball. They have Bocci ball and A Tether ball . There is a playground. It was very spacious. Not a lot of trees but that is fine with me cause we like to use our Satelite dish. The WiFi was good. The staff was very friendly and left easy to use after hours check in for us. Loved the Great Danes that live there. We will definitely stay here again next year!! read more

Office was clean and staff so friendly. The sites are roomy and level. The bath house is closed due to COVID, but the laundry was open. The washers and dryers were clean. One washer wasn't working, but they refunded our money. Clothes dried the first time. Only thing is no trees so no shade. Just checked in and from the looks it's a new park that will lovingly come to life in a few years. Grass and trees are laid in, nice community building and bathhouses, easy getting in the spaces and the staff is more than cordial. It has an easy access off the freeway and to the frontage road. Really nice place! Quiet, friendly staff, CLEAN everything! Private full bathrooms are a real treat! They have a little store with things you might need in a pinch and a small playground area for the kids. Dog friendly! Only two small things: gravel sites are a slight nuisance, and their laundry facilities only take quarters but there are no ATMs or change machines. You can buy quarters in the office but it doesn't say that anywhere and they were closed when I went to do laundry (Christmas Eve) so it wouldn't have helped me anyway. I ended up finding a nice laundromat about ten minutes away that does everything digitally so it's not a deal breaker...just a SMALL bone of contention. Still the nicest place in this area to stay that I have seen and we are happy to be calling this place home for the next 6 months! read more

This is a great camp ground. It is clean and well maintained. The people are very friendly. The showers had great water pressure and were exceptionally clean. We decided to stay an extra night. They have a little store for your Forgotten items and Moose their dog greets you warmly at the door read more

Moving from California to Tennessee and had the pleasure of spending a night at Whistle Stop halfway through our trek. Clean, long/wide pull thrus, nice amenities (loved the little dog park) and amazing customer service. Friendly and accommodating. Coffee and donuts in the office with the folks there = hospitality. Drove from San Diego to Abilene to drop our daughter off for college. After 1000 miles, we saw a number of RV parks....this was by far the best. Super reasonable , clean facilities, extremely friendly staff. Brand new Movie theatre right across the way and just a stone throw away from ACU. We also ran into some bad luck and couldn't open the door to our RV...my husband spent hours to trying fix it (while climbing in and out of the drivers side window ). Locksmith couldn't fix it either. Manager drove by and had it fixed in 5 minutes Would definitely stay here again!!! read more

We stayed at Whistle Stop RV Resort last Night 10-27-18. Beautiful campground. They were having their Harvest Festival here last night. There were bunches of kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes. It was really neat to see. This is a newer campground, but a lot of pull through sites, full hook-up, Wi-Fi, cable etc... really liked it here in Abilene TX. read more

Drove from San Diego to Austin, Waco to Abilene. Got the last spot. Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. Just took a shower and they are 5 star bathrooms. Super shower heat and pressure. Bathroom also had a heater in it, above and beyond. Large drive through sites, any class A, even with tow would fit with room. Standard hook ups, good quality RCCB's. Sites have larger trees on the outskirts of the park and small saplings in between sites. There is a pool, but it's raining right now, so Can't review that. Also a laundromat on site. Will come back here if they are not fully booked when I next come back this way. Soon. Oh! don't pontificate, book the site now or you might miss out on a good site. read more
