However, the décor certainly has seen better days, and you will find a classier JDW option about 7 minutes away, at The Standing Order. Of course, the menu (with very minor variations) and drjnks selection is the usual, and the prices are highly competitive - you simply won't find a cheaper cocktail or real ale than anywhere else but at a Spoon. However, a real ale I had when I visited in February had already gone bad (very notable vinegary smell and taste).. That shouldn't happen - casks of real ale once opened wiil start to go bad after 3 days. The food is solid if unexciting, which you've also come to expect from JDW. All in all, not the best JDW option in Derby.

The staff are all lovely and even when busy they will share a laugh and a joke. If going for a meal I love to sit in the booths at the back as it is more private and away from the hubbub of the rst of the pub. If going for an evening with the girls or just a quick coffee I love to sit on the comfy sofas at the front of the bar. Only thing against this is that it is nearer the doors and with people going in and out to smoke, can get a bit draughty. The food is great and still very cheap even in this climate. The beer and wine is also cheap compared to most pubs and the coffee is delicious. I love all the great pictures on the wall of historic Derby and the Bookcase full of dusty old books at the back of the bar gives it great character. The only negative I have is that the toilets are all a hike up the stairs - but this seems to be an issue with most Wetherspoon pubs.

The décor is more stylish than the one you will find in other Spoons, though still easily recognizable. The food of course is the same that you will find in other JDW pubs, with very minor variations (e.g. the selection of small plates is smaller here than e.g at The Babington Arms, also in Derby). The drinks selection is huge and the prices competitive (try and find a real ale from UKP 2,75 at any pub that isn't a Spoon!), and that of course attracts a certain clientèle, especially on weekend nights. If you can accept that, it's a highly recommendable place for inexpensive drinks and (usually reliable) food.

The whole meal went perfect with my cordial (non-alcoholic spritzer, essentially). Our waiter was doing double duty by handling food and bar orders, and he was great. If in Derby again, I would visit again!

When we have been there with our society (20 people) we mostly struggled to find a place for all of us although the Pub has plenty of seating capacity. Of the three pubs in Buxton we visited that day, this was my least favourite, it just lacked the charm and traditional features of the others and looked far too 'chainy' for my taste.

The Plaza is part of the J.D. Wetherspoons franchise, so one should know what to expect. This particular pub had a nice exterior at the front with searing and an amazing beer garden at the back. It was fairly open inside and had a higher mezzanine area. We arrived shortly after 10am and there were only a handful of people in, but steadily got busier within the hour. Plus, a few locals treating themselves to a mid morning beer (read into that what you will!) I had my heart set on Eggs Benedict and a coffee and I was not disappointed. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the breakfast. We didn't have to wait long for the food, and the poached eggs came on a generous serving of cured Wiltshire ham and a toasted muffin (the bread!) covered in hollandaise sauce, and a side of salad. The eggs were poached to perfection and I was very happy with the ham. The sauce had a strong taste to it, but I'm not complaining. Overall a great combo. The coffee was Lavazza, and fairly decent. The best part was the price. Two dishes with drinks and change from a tenner. Great start to a Sunday morning! I've had breakfast here twice before, and as I recall, was relatively satisfied then. Staff are friendly. Exceptional value. Food is not awesome but is tasty and excellent value. Interior is fairly impressive a little art Deco. I was expecting Weatherspoons to be full of teenagers and was plesantly surpirsed for it to be quiet although lots of people in there. A great budget night out.

We did have dessert one of the times we went as they have some interesting items... for example the peach and raspberry trifle slice. Really it is a cake, nice, but not really what I was expecting when 'trifle' is in the title.
