I just had a bad experience staying here. I'm so sorry but I have to give a one star for this place. 1-paid way too much for the room 2-air conditioner is either on 69 degrees cold or 70 heater and it blows loud cold air all night. Had to block it with furniture and still did not get a good nights sleep. 3-shower whistled so loud it was very annoying and I know all the other rooms could hear it. 4- BIGGEST OF ALL!!!!!!! the blood splatter all over the bathroom door, walls etc. Seriously? I suggested this place to my boyfriend as we were planning for our trip to Thunderhill Raceway in Willows. Finding a place for us to stay is always quite a bit challenging because we have a dog. Primarily, this place caught my attention as I was browsing through hotels.com because it welcomes pets and it's cheap, $32/night. He was a little hesitant because for $32 a night, you would not know what to expect. My expectation was way down at the bottom to be honest but all I cared is they welcome pets. For $32 per night (booked through hotels.com), I'd give this place 4 stars. Clean rooms, comfy and firm bed, HBO channel, hot shower, and offers breakfast. The parking is good and the place is conveniently located near the restaurants and gas stations. But just like most motels, it has a distinct funny smell that literally sticks with you tell you get home. So take a shower if you don't want to carry that smell around with you. The doors make this loud banging noise when you open and close them so try to make less noise as much as you can if you are considerate enough. I don't know why they didn't change the name to Willows' Travelodge yet but that's the new name now. read more

What was I expecting for $40/night? I don't know but I wasn't impressed. Our room had wallpaper peeling off the walls, huge stains on the carpet, and smelled like feet. The wall closest to the sliding glass door was completely covered with mosquitos that snacked on me throughout the night.... Being right next to the freeway, it was loud basically all night. And the motion-sensing lights are SUPER annoying and loud. Also, they make you walk down the street to get the "continental breakfast" from a neighboring hotel, which I'm pretty sure now owns this one, but still, really tacky. Wasn't here long enough to use the shower or anything else but I wouldn't come back. 1.5-2 stars. Oh, and no wifi. read more

I have given this place a pet name - I like to call it the Ghetto Pheasant. It's really not *that* bad, but it's not really that great either. I think it's overpriced for the quality, but it's a decent place to rest your head before a hot day at Thunderhill Raceway. An added bonus is the fact that they allow pets. They also offer a pretty decent continental breakfast in the morning - but nothing to jump for joy about. I would like to stay at the Amerihost, but since they don't allow pets, it's the Ghetto Pheasant for me and my poochy! read more

Of all the motels I've stayed in (for RACES and ROAD TRIPS, ya preverts! And yes, I purposefully spelled preverts that way) this one was better than many. Shower pressure greater than a pee stream of weakly warmed water allowed me to actually rinse the conditioner from my hair- hurray! A bed that didn't feel like I was sleeping directly on the springs and bars under the mattress- hurray! A microwave, refrigerator and air conditioner all in the room that worked- well too- hurray! Two sinks, and a private door that separated the WC from the shower and sinks- hurray! A pool that we didn't get to use, and make-your-own waffles in the morning as part of their free continental breakfast- hurray! An ice machine that cranked out enough ice, bucket after bucket to keep our beverages chilled in 102 degree weather from 6am to 9PM- hurray! read more

Old and run down!! Stayed here before when it was a Best Western, it was nice then. Shower area had dry rot with bath tiles about to fall off, water leaking under bathroom sinks. We were told that breakfest was at another motel down the street ! The weather stripping around the door was missing and the door and frame looked like the it had been forced open before. read more

The hotel is clean. The parking lot is safe. Its within walking distance to all the important stops in town. You get the added bonus of a car show when Ferrari has a track day after a motorcycle day. Amerihost has nicer rooms though. read more

Don't let the new front counter fool you...its Old, Run down, Smelly. We have stayed at many places in the area while using the local race track. We found a few bugs in our bath room, the room was something out of a " Hotel Hell" tv show, it smelled, and the fixtures were broken. Gets two stars cause it was a good value, our room was large ( we had a suite) and its keeps locals employed....I hope the remodeled front end is a sign the rest of the joint will be over hauled next. read more

Ahhh...the Golden Pheasant. My first impression was that the rooms needed a modernization back in 1974. My second impression was Ewww. There have been mice running around in rooms and over people as they slept. The mosquitos are really bad during the spring/summer. The smoking rooms smell worse than an ashtray. And sometimes the pools are icky. There is internet access and even a computer for you to use if you don't have one. There is a decent continental breakfast. It's not the cheapest in the area. Good service is spotty. Overall, not a bad place to stay nor the cheapest. read more

Worst hotel ever! First of all we get there around 8:30 Saturday night and the lobby is shut tight, nobody is there. We ask aroind to find out you have to drive down the street to another hotel to get your key. So we do and then drive around for 20 minute s trying to find our room, which was hard because there is 3 different driveways to get to all the rooms. So we find our room and are unloading our stuff (track stuff) and we noticed the bushes are covered in spiders! These bushes line the walkways to the rooms and just at glance you can see like 15-20 BIG spiders. They are the size of quarters. If you think the spider's are bad don't look down. On the ground, in the garbage cans, all over the outside as re the biggest cockroache's I've ever seen! These suckers are everywhere! My boyfriend says relax, this area of the state has a lot of bugs, they won't be inside. Fair enough right? We go in and right away I see tons of mosquitos on the walls, and tiny little bugs on the tile part. Then we noticed that the back door was open! So these bugs have been going in and out as they please. So I take all our clothes and, well everthing into the bathroom only to find that there are little beetles in the sink! Yeah needless to say we didn't sleep great. Other than the bugs there was a busted out plug by the bed, some weird exposed wires in a box coming from the air conditioner, and spider webs in the lamp shade. The best part was when you flushed the toilet it screamed like some little girls soul was stuck in the drain, and loudly too. Our last trip we stayed at the motel 6 down the street. The customer service wasn't great (why we tried a new place) but now I have a whole new appreciation for them. So we will stick with the motel six from now on... I would really suggest you do to... Oh yeah this place isn't called Travelodge anymore, its like super 6 or something. read more

Recently I attended a big car race event at Thunderhill Raceway, near Willows, CA. All hotels were sold out. More than 2 months prior I had reserved one double room for Thurs-Sun, and 3 double rooms for Fri-Sun at the Travelodge, Willows. I arrived Thursday, and my 6 friends were arriving Friday. When I checked in Thursday night, lobby was sweltering hot, not air conditioned, under construction and stunk of paint. Whatever. Was told that internet access was via a cable they would loan me, but they didn't. I got my card keys, and went around back to my room. The card keys were printed with Baymont Inn graphics, which is the next hotel up the street. On the way to the room, it looked like I was driving through a bombed out ghetto on the way to the room, with broken furniture, mattresses and box springs, drywall and lumber debris strewn all over the sidewalk for much of the way there, right outside many of the rooms. Haven't they heard of a dumpster? When I got in the room--at least it had furniture in it. But the security latch on the door was literally broken off. Comforting, hunh? I needed a shower and sleep, so whatever. The bathroom was dirty--like the shower mat had big mold splotches on it; there were hairs and dirt on the sink counter and the floor, ants crawling up the bathroom wall, and there was what looked like blood smears on the wall above the side of the toilet. Ew....it's getting worse. After a (quick don't-touch-the curtain-or-wall) shower, I called the front desk to get the cable for internet connection, as the CAT-5 cable that I brought didn't let me connect. No answer. I tried from the hotel phone, and from my cell phone. Nope, no-one there. OK, no last email that night. Needed sleep more...The bed pillows were very small, almost square. Seemed kinda strange, but whatever... Got a short nights sleep and headed out early for the track. That night, Friday, when my friends were checking in, or I should say trying to check in, the lobby was closed, locked up tight. No one there. This is maybe 10:30 Friday night. Another couple showed up to check in, too, and after some expressions of frustration, they mentioned that this had happened to them before, and the Baymont Inns lobby had keys for the Travelodge. The group headed to the Baymont Inn, and the night clerk called the owner, who owns not only both the Travelodge and the Baymont Inn, but also the Holiday Inn Express in Willows. My friend got to speak with the owner, a woman possibly named Christine. He was told that there were no rooms. We had the reservation print out with the confirmation numbers; she said that there were no rooms. The reservation stated that without cancellation by 4 pm the day before, my credit card would be charged for one night; Christine said that I wasn't charged; the charges were refunded when they rented out the rooms. We told her that the issue wasn't want the money, we needed the rooms that were guaranteed to us by the reservation. She insisted that there were no rooms, and this debate went back and forth as she tried to dismiss us. This continued until she was told that if she didn't find us rooms, we were going to call the police and charge her with fraud, and she would have to get her-self out of bed and come down to the hotel and face us. After literally 30 minutes of arguing this point with her, she called her network, and found us rooms at the Blue Gum Inn, about 5 miles north. We got there and checked in close to midnight. The Blue Gum Inn is a rustic little place, but the owner/night clerk was there and pleasant to deal with, and the rooms were clean, if a bit dated. A couple of us stayed at the one Travelodge room that I had checked into Thursday night, but the remaining 6 of us had to relocate. The icing on the cake was I met a couple at the track Saturday, who had a room at the Travelodge, and had checked in the afternoon before. The woman had a printed reservation for a smoking king bed room; they gave her a double queen bed room. She insisted that they wanted the king bed room, and after some argument, were given one, and the person behind the counter mentioned that they had a few rooms available because some "guy has too many rooms reserved." That "guy" was ME! And I didn't have too many rooms reserved, I had enough for the group of us that were intending to stay there. To top it all off, I got a phone call Saturday mid-day, in the heat of working on cars, mid race. The person (I didn't catch her name) asked if I still needed the rooms that I had reserved, for Saturday night. These are the rooms that I needed the night before, of course. Since I was busy working on a race car, I told her that I couldn't talk, but I was very upset that she had not honored the reservation that I had made months in advance. She told me to call if I wanted the rooms, and hung up on me. NEVER AGAIN! Stay anywhere other than Travelodge, Baymont Inn, or Holiday Inn Express! read more

Nope, not ever again. I've been staying at this hotel off and on for 15 years or so. When it was the Golden Pheasant, it was adequate and cheap; now, it's just horrible. Long story short, they "sold my room out from under me" and I finally had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back. Terrible room, the place looks like a bad day in Sarajevo, and absolutely abysmal staff. I'm shocked that they're still in business and hope that ownership changes. read more

This place seems to get worse each time I stay there. They recently were dropped by Best Western (to my understanding) and are now becoming Travelodge. I would reccomend staying somewhere else in Willows (read anywhere else) as this just doesnt cut it for me anymore....I would prefer a tent at the racetrack. read more

I've been here a hand full of time when I have trackdays at Thunderhill. Each time I come back it's been getting worse. (maybe that's why it's so cheap) A/C does not work well, and bugs, bugs, bugs! When I got here at night (11pm) the front door area was covered with bugs! It didn't bother me, thinking it's only outside. first step in the room and bugs all over the floor! At least four feet in! Dropped of my stuff, went to the bathroom to turn on the lights, bugs all over the double sink!!! WTF!!! Took one of their towels and cleaned off the counter before I can use it. It believe this problem can be solved pretty easily. Fix the door seals and fix the A/C! This is the last time I'm staying here. Motel 6 will be on my list next time. Newly remodeled. Very clean and the A/C works great. read more

Oh how the mediocre have fallen. I didn't really have high expectations as that I have stayed here before. Seems they were doing some renovations like pitching toilets into the lawn area, painting the fence and not cleaning the pool for what seemed like 3 months. It was on it's way to being the Rusty and Aubry pool scene from the movie Vacation, yes, there was actually a dead bird in it. All the while steps away from the pool they were painting the fence, and these aren't professional painters that wouldn't care about the pool, these were the owners/managers/family/friends. Now, I hate to say this but there is not too much going on in Willows. I do know that they have a fantastic racetrack with events all year long. I would think that you would get a schedule of events and act accordingly, like having rooms ready, pick up the toilets and torn out rooms from the lawn and hallways, or at least clean a pool when you are all booked up and giving peoples reserved rooms away to first come first served. read more

we reserved our room online and when we got there they couldnt find our reservation. I pulled up my confirmation number and booking number on my iphone and the lady said sorry we dont have any rooms. It doesnt matter if you have those numbers. It was 930 at night and we had driven from Oregon. Now we had to find a hotel and we were exhausted. She didnt even appologize. Do not plan on a room at this place even if you have pre-booked! read more
