Recently stayed at the Travelodge London Central City Road. Here are my notes: * Room Size: Some of the rooms are quite small, but asking for a room at the front of the building is a good hack--those rooms tend to be larger due to the shape of the building. * Breakfast Deal: If you book through certain websites, you'll get complimentary breakfast, which is definitely worth it. The breakfast spread was surprisingly good. * Old but updated: The hotel is definitely on the older side and could use a remodel. While the rooms themselves are updated and comfortable, the hallways have that kind of worn, dated vibe. * IMPORTANT: There's no air-conditioning! I would not stay here in the warmer months. * Location: It's close to the tube and the Elizabeth line, making it super convenient to get around. Plus, you can easily walk to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Overall, your experience at Travelodge London Central City Road may vary, but it's a decent budget-friendly option. read more

Understand that Travelodge are budget hotels. Expect that going in. Hotels in London are expensive especially within city center, but you will find Travelodge to have locations all around the city and have prices that are very affordable in comparison to others. Just don't expect posh. I knew this and why my rating is fairly high. This is a great location with nearby Shoreditch area. It is an easy to find location on a main road with a bus stop literally outside the hotel. The Old Street tube station is a .02 miles way so about a 4-5 minute walk and the Moorgate tube station .03 miles away so about 6 minute walk. The Tower of London and Tower Bridge is a mile away and so is the Millennium Bridge. Brick Lane and Shoreditch area are all within less than a mile and all walkable if you are willing and able. This place is perfect for younger travelers with transport very accessible to go anywhere else in London, or as mentioned if you want to stay within the area and walk around to explore Shoreditch with it's art and bars and such are all around. We had booked a "family" room which had a single/twin bed and a king bed. You can request another single bed.They were more like a deluxe cot honestly but well cushioned and I didn't feel any discomfort. So you can fit 3 adults on the king bed comfortably and a person in the single pull out bed/cot. With this setup the room itself was still spacious. If you request 2 of those pull out beds it would be a tight fit in the room but still manageable. Shower is very strong at least in our room and you certainly will not complain about the pressure. Despite being a "family" room they dont provide enough towels. There is no AC so if it is a hot, this will be a turn off, but it was cold during our stay so this wasn't relevant. If you are sensitive to noise ask for a room away from the main street. It can get noisy if you are facing the main street. The reason for my 1 star deduction is wifi is horrible. It is 2017 and it should be at least free for paying guest and with good speed.You do have free wifi but only for a limited time until you have to wait a period of time until you can get another free usage. Of course unless you pay. Speed isn't that great. The area seemed safe, and they lock the entrance only being able to enter with your keycard or to ring the front desk staff. I walked around at night and had no issues or reason to fear. There is bar on the main floor and you can purchase breakfast or dinner in the hotel. If not there is a Tesco express a few steps outside and same goes for a Sainsbury. Early check in is available if you pay, but they do have a storage for your luggage so I was able to drop off our luggage and start exploring until check in. That is a huge plus for any traveler. So overall its a great value, and before you criticize it, just remember how much you paid. It is pretty good for the price except that the WIFI should be free and faster. read more

It's pretty good value for money. The rooms are spacious but best described as functional and clean. You could ask for more but you would have to pay more. Shower is good and powerful. The bar is good and open late, and does have food available as well. A reasonable choice and again it is nothing to write home about but it's nice to have a hot meal if you arrive late in the evening. read more

Travelodge - Hotels Near Me - London, XGL

This is a decent Travelodge in a great location in the City. I had an important interview in the City, so was looking for a reliable hotel in a good location to spend the night before the interview. Everything about this hotel seemed perfect for my needs. Staff were welcoming as I arrived. The check-in process was quick and efficient. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. All good in that regard. Sadly, I had essentially no view from my window. I just saw other rooms in the hotel and scaffolding. The television had a range of channels, but the signal was ridiculously blurry in all cases. I would have damaged my eyesight to watch for too long! Shower was good- hot and high pressure. Unfortunately, noise was a problem. I was kept awake by thumping music at night, and then woken by builders in the morning. The building will of course only be a temporary problem, but I would be concerned about the loud music if I had to stay again before an important meeting or interview. I chose the unlimited breakfast option for £8. This was fine, nothing special. All the usual fried breakfast ingredients, cereals, coffee, juice. It made for a good start to the day. All in all, a decent hotel in a superb location. I think it's too expensive for what it is, but I do realise that London in general is an expensive place to stay. May well be back. P.S. Please provide free Wi-Fi! It's ridiculous that I have to pay for Wi-Fi connection in a hotel in this day and age. Block streaming and high bandwidth resources if you like, but don't charge me to check my emails. read more

If you're traveling with a handicapped person I do not recommend. My mother uses a breathing machine to sleep and there is no plugs next to the bed on any of the first four floors. I even called ahead to make sure she would have appropriate arrangements and informed them when I would be arriving. However my handicapped room was given away even though I pre paid for my room. You're also required to pay for Wi-Fi that does not work. read more

Stayed 4 nights at the Travelodge City Road. The hotel itself is located along City Road which is pretty busy street. It is pretty close to Old Street Station (take exit 4 and then it is less than 5 minutes walk) but it is also walkable from Liverpool Street Station (which may be more convenient depending on how one arrives. I like the location but if you wish to be very close to all the sights it is not perfect. We were however to a large extent after the nightlife of nearby Hoxton and Shoreditch and for that is a good location. We had a family room which is supposed to sleep 3 but there was actually room to sleep 4. The bed was comfortable however the foldout sofa was a bit too hard. The room had a TV with a few channels (a bit irritating that the channels were in a random order which meant a lot of zapping on the remote) and there was also a water kettle. From what I understood it was possible to borrow hair dryer and other stuff from the front desk. The room was clean and I was actually surprised that the changed towels and linen every day. One thing that I was expecting in the room was shower gel and shampoo but there was only soap but the bathroom had a bath tub. The front desk staff were not rude however they were not exactly friendly and helpful either. They were a bit difficult about providing each of us our own key card to the room and they were not very knowledgeable about the area or London in general. The value is however great. We paid £19 per room and night and at it is pretty unbeatable at that price. Do not expect something special - it is a basic budget hotel but is clean and reasonably comfortable. Do try to get a room facing the back (away from City Road) as I heard a few other guests complaining about noise - we did however not hear anything. read more

Cheap and does the job, that's the short version . Long version: it's summer and there is no air con. Note from the hotel in the room to keep curtains closed and as few lights as possible on while the sun hits the window. The first room I was given did not have any hand wash liquid and the sink was blocked, so they immediately changed me to a new room. In the second room I had to open the bin's cover with my hand as the "step-on-lever" did not work. Glad I had brought my own shampoo and body wash. Wifi worked fine during lunch time / afternoon but in the night it was struggling. I actually had to revert to my mobile to talk on Skype. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Their coffee machine is much better than other places I have been. Would I go back? If I needed to save money and it wasn't for a long time yes! We paid £138 for 2 nights - it's well worth watching the Travelodge for special deals; sometimes we've paid a lot less than that. The room was fairly comfortable (especially the bed) but there was a space under the window where there is usually a sofa. That meant there was just one chair to sit on, or the bed. No curtains but a good quality roller blind. Also an en suite and tea/coffee making facilities (as in all the Travelodges). We found the restaurant was spacious, quiet and comfortable and reasonable value for London. The barman, Igor, was very friendly and helpful. read more

Right, well, it's a hotel on City Road in London and it cost me £88.25 per night, including full hot breakfast, so how good did I expect it to be? Let's start with the good bits My online reservation worked fine, which is always a good sign. The reception area is a little spartan. Just a check-in desk and a couple of vending machines. It's a decent size space as well. I'd have thought a sofa or something would have added a little warmth to the place. Anyway, the lifts were clean and tidy, although one was out of order for almost my entire stay. I took the stairs once and they were very nice, as stairs go. The room continued the Spartan theme with white walls and white ceiling decorated with a TFT telly and a double bed. There was an open wardrobe bit and a shelf along one wall acting as a table, upon which sat a folorn looking kettle and a small tray of drink making ingredients. And that was it. No pictures, no adornment, just a white box with a bed. The bed itself was very comfortable mind, and the sheets were lovely and clean with that just laundered smell. I really can't find fault with the cleanliness in this place. The bathroom was actually a shower room, with a powerful and hot shower, a flushing toilet (all mod cons!!) and a sink. No complimentary toiletries except a small sliver of soap, which popped out of my hands while washing and dissapeared down the bog. Oh well, there wasn't much to begin with, however, it was never replaced in the three days I was there. It seems that the small sliver is all your going to get so don't flush it down the crapper, for God's sake! The restaurant was interesting. The breakfast was buffet style, with the usual options of a tediously slow toast it yourself machine that always had a queue of about 4 people waiting, a fruit juice machine with two options, apple and orange, a hot drinks machine (which I didn't try, there was gallons of the stuff at the course location anyway) and cold delights such as fruit and cereals. I'm not one for cereals so I headed straight for the hot foodstuffs. Bacon, nice. Sausage, suprisingly decent. Beans, cooked instead of the usual little bullets in tomato sauce. Tomatoes, out of a tin no thanks. Egg, scrambled, adequate. The evening meal was a different experience. I went to the bar and ordered a pint, which was duly poured. Whilst musing over the menu I was informed that I would need a table number. So, I took my fresh pint and placed it on a table, returning moments later to the bar and ordered my food. Is that all? enquired the bartender. I replied in the affirmative. No drink? he asked Ummm, no, you poured me a pint about 30 seconds ago. I wasn't THAT thirsty! Honestly, this guy had the memory of a goldfish. I visited again the next night and recieved exactly the same treatment. I ordered a pint, went and found a table (in a room of about 80 tables, and three other diners, so it didn't take long), returned and was asked if I wanted something to drink. Now I'm not sure if he had terminal memory loss, or just didn't give a damn. I suspect it was the latter. Anyway, the food was passable, the beer was cold and beery. Nothing special. So, for less than £90 a night B&B it seemed better value than some of the hotels others on the course stayed at. It had no soul or feeling, and was very impersonal, but as a warm, clean and quiet place to sleep, it fitted the bill very nicely. I would certainly use it again, if only to see the barman. Liked the hotel, nice and clean room. Only stayed 1 night. Would recommend asking for a room at the back as the main road is noisy. The bar/cafe is nice touch. We had the breakfast which was nice. We manage to book a family room for 2 nights for £58 online, this was exceptional value. The hotel was easy to find and about 5 minutes walk from the nearest tube station. The staff at the hotel were polite and helpful. The room itself was clean and tidy with a double bed and a sofa that converted into a bed with a pull out bed underneath. The room had tea and coffee making facilities provided as well as a TV with freeview channels. We didn't opt for the breakfast as we felt this didn't offer very good value for money, there is a Marks and Spencer on route to the tube so we were able to pick up any food we wanted from here. On the first night we were too tired to venture out to eat so we had pizzas from the restaurant downstairs, this was a big mistake they were overly greasy and tasted of very little. To sum up I would say that this hotel offered great value for money in a convenient location and it was clean and tidy (although I would stay away from the pizza) read more

A well located travelodge, it's clean and the bed is comfy and the shower is decent. Didn't try the food so can't comment, we did stay in the bar tip 3 am and they weren't making a move to kick us out which was cool. Drinks prices were average. The big no no for me was that in this day and age there was no hair dryer!!!! So I went and bought one from the Argos down the road. Staff were really pleasant and I felt safe staying there, would stay again I just need to remember my new travel hair dryer! read more

Horrible Internet, Horrible Service I check in and get my card-key. I go up to my room. The card-key doesn't work. I go back to the front desk. They have someone come upstairs with me and the key "magically" works. I was one of 5 people in a 10 minute period who had this problem. The issue is that the card codes take a few minutes to propagate to the rooms. The front desk could have just said, "wait a few minutes before heading to the room." I paid for Internet. Not some free Internet. I connect my firewall to the wifi and connect my computer to my firewall. The Internet works for about 2 minutes and then stops working. I try to connect again and no dice. It seems that once I started using my VPN to connect through the connection, it goes rejected. I went downstairs to talk to the manager. The desk clerk said, "oh, your Internet is limited to two devices, how many devices did you connect?" I replied that I connected a single device and asked for the manager. The clerk told me to call tech support. My response: get the manager or I go upstairs, get my stuff, and check out. The manager had to process my refund and she was telling me about their outsourced tech support. I said, "I don't have time for tech support. Either your Internet works or it doesn't. If the toilet didn't work, you wouldn't put me on toilet tech support, you'd either move my room or have a plumber fix it." read more

This is a soulless but comfortable place to stay. For London the prices are good value and the breakfast is especially good value. If all you want is a bed for the night you couldn't do better than stay here - if you want some character and warmth stay somewhere else. read more
