I had been playing guitar for a few years before I started with Travis... Practicing every day, following online courses, and watching countless hours of lessons on YouTube. I was making steady progress, could learn at least SOME version of just about any song, and was playing solos out of the basic pentatonic shapes. Then one day I decided to give Travis a try... Within the first 10 minutes he had already corrected 2 bad habits (both my vibrato and bending were a bit out of tune). Easy enough to correct, but it made a world of difference... and more importantly, it would have taken me months, maybe even years to notice on my own. I realized right then and there that I still had a LOT to learn... and I was hooked. At the end of the day, learning the guitar can be hard... but it's night and day easier with the help of a great instructor. Someone who's done it himself, taught it to others, and put in the hard work to become a truly amazing musician. Travis is all of that and more. Part instructor, part coach, and always enthusiastic, I've learned more in 4 months with Travis than I did in all of those years playing alone... all the while having more fun than ever. I'm now playing over chord changes, seeing shapes all over the neck, and making music that ACTUALLY sounds like music. It seems like Travis can play any style... he's taught me some funk, some country, and some jazz... and he's got a great answer to any question you throw at him - no matter how crazy. One more thing I love about working with Travis - he'll help you design a practice plan so you can get the most "bang for your buck," and then get back to the real reason we do this... playing, making, and sharing great music. I have only been taking lessons with Travis for four months. But what I've learned in that four months has been eye opening and super helpful in my understanding the neck of the guitar. He's the first teacher I've had that cut through all the confusion on learning the neck. As Travis likes to call it Street Guitar which is awesome. Plus he's now got me listing to songs and identifying the key it's in with my ear. So on a whim, I wanted to learn to play. Well at least get the basics down. Ask one of three minions, and the youngest (12) was interested. So we sign up. Travis instantly gets us acclimated. Travis is an amazing guitar teacher!! I grew up playing instruments, but it had been a few years since I picked anything up and I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to play the guitar. But I was a little intimidated to get started. Travis is seriously the perfect teacher for beginners or more advanced students. He's so encouraging and patient. Whenever I'm feeling frustrated or discouraged he really breaks it down in a way that makes me excited to learn and want to stick with it. He's an accomplished musician in his own right, but clearly is passionate about teaching. Another thing that sets Travis apart is that he has helped a ton with my songwriting and singing. I sing and write poems, and have always wanted to marry the two and write songs and he has helped me with it so much. And I've learned a bunch of my favorite songs!! Hands down best guitar teacher ever! Travis teaches me all the songs I want to learn and he does it quickly. It's been almost 3 years of Skype lessons with Travis and I look forward to it every week. I'm in NY, he's in LA, and an LA friend recommended him and I'm so glad he did! It's always a great learning experience, but Travis really knows how to make it fun as well which I really appreciate. I started as a complete beginner and didn't even know how to tune a guitar. Within 2 lessons I was playing songs. Within a month I knew how to finger pick. Let's be honest - at 40 learning new things is a little daunting but either I still had it in me all this time or Travis is a miracle worker. I think the latter.
