My family and I stopped by Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd as my husband wanted to check out some guitars. We were dropped off in front of the store. I was surprised by the exterior entrance. It was it's own experience. There are tons of plaques of handprints and signatures of famous musicians and bands. It's really cool and I enjoyed looking at all of them seeing who I could find. When you enter the store you see how big it is. It has several sections with different types of instruments. There is a variety of guitars, a drum section with cymbals and so many other things. As far as service goes we had limited conversations. We just walked in and the person working at the front just kind of looked at us and nodded. One person passing by us did say that if we needed anything or if we had any questions to let him know but that was about it. Overall this Guitar Center visit was okay. I visited Guitar Center Hollywood on June 24 around 5:30 PM looking for a gig bag for my guitalele. My experience with one employee, Miguel in the guitar department, was extremely disappointing. When I asked for help, he quickly brushed me off and insisted there were no bags that would fit my instrument. He seemed completely unwilling to make any effort to check for alternatives. When I asked for his name, he actually hid his name tag in his shirt pocket and questioned why I needed it. When I requested to speak with a manager, he claimed there was no manager available and again questioned why I wanted one. The interaction felt dismissive, unprofessional, and left me feeling disrespected as a customer. Fortunately, security officer Nate took my concerns seriously and contacted a manager, Travis. While it took some time, Travis went into the back and found a mini guitar bag that fits my guitalele perfectly. Ironically, the solution was exactly what Miguel could have found if he had been willing to get up and look. I appreciate Nate and Travis for ultimately resolving the issue, but the behavior I experienced from Miguel was unacceptable. I've gone to this guitar center a few times... You have to be aware of some rules. You need to bring your own headphones or otherwise have a way to listen to music you play without bugging people because it's not like where I used to go in Orange County where no one cared what you did.... It's also the flagship store and you might encounter some really weird things that have nothing to do with the people that worked there like I did. Some random middle-aged dude started popping off at one of the workers had to be escorted out while he cussed out about something that really made no sense. But the employer did a good job and the guy left and was probably yelling at other people later on.... In the end, I ended up with a wonderful piece of gear for a decent price. I love Roland instruments so that's what I got. I loaded it up in an Uber black with help from Josh with the guy to talk to on keyboards and probably all sorts of other stuff that I don't play like guitars.... Phones are a mess. Don't expect proficient customer service. Not enough staff. Ordered my Martin, wrong one came. Had guitar lesson and the drums were so loud in next room, even my teacher had to go tell them to quiet down. Worst staff a store could possibly have all at once. I made a picture frame for a friend who is a guitar player, and I went in looking for a miniature guitar replica to finish his gift. The website said they had a bunch in stock. I asked three different people, and nobody seemed to care. I guess to them it looked like something that wasn't worth helping me with (even though they cost $50). Finally, one girl tells me, "Oh, let me check in the back for you." I said, "OMG, thank you so much. I really appreciate you." She left for 20 minutes, and I wasn't sure if she was actually looking for it or just ghosting me. Still, I didn't leave because I felt bad in case she really was looking for it. Turns out, she was hiding out for a while and then came back with coffee. Zero Fs given that I was still standing there waiting. I just left. I thought about talking to a manager because it was completely disrespectful, especially considering I could have just gone somewhere else. But then again, it's a store where nobody seems to give a f*. I left completely heartbroken, considering I had been driving around everywhere looking for this for his birthday gift, and his birthday was in three hours. The only plus? The store is a vibe. The Guitar Center is an institution! I am not a musician (flirting with taking guitar lessons when I was a pre-teen doesn't count!), but I love music and this place is a world into itself! Lots to see and browse- their Walk of Fame, memorabilia all around, it's a great place to visit! Lately, my husband was looking to replace a small recorder and found a deal on line at the Guitar Center! It was cheaper than the big site (it should not be named) that we were avoiding buying from. So, we placed the order, got it in a few days, no problems! It was great to be able to save some money, get what we needed and support a local business instead of a conglomerate that put so many stores out of business! So, yes, they do sell a lot of items on line as well. Give them a try! read more

Good staff. Everyone seems to be at least friendly and informed enough, a few especially good though. Been by to browse a bit, bought some small things, but then took a new guitar in for a set up. The techs were solid. The setup was great and the turn around was 24 hours (although this likely depends on how busy they are and how much work needs to be done). I would like to start by shouting Vega out from the location off Pico in the Westwood area. I went over there not knowing they closed that location down and he was cool and talked to us for a bit. This Sunset location is awesome. It's huge and has so much selection from every instrument. Everyone that has approached me has been super cool and I spoke to one gentleman about guitar lessons. I actually plan on buying a new guitar soon and picking up some lessons. Highly recommend this place to come see some fun signed guitars or the band handprints from bands as you walk in. I recently spent 3,000 on a Les Paul here. 2 months later I come in and ask a middle aged white bald guy in the room with higher end guitars if I could try out a rickenbacker that was priced at 3500. He asks if I am looking to buy or just play it I said "well I have to try it before I know if I want to buy it". He tells me they've had issues and recently a 12 year old banged a guitar up in there.... I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years!!! I tell him I just spent almost the same amount as the guitar I want to try a few months ago and he still refuses to unlock it for me! He says "I have to be careful with who I give these guitars to". Awesome shop! I went to this store looking to buy a Yamaha FS800J (couldn't buy it on Amazon due to delivery issues). Fortunately they have it in stock. And it's the same price as the one I saw on Amazon. Plus they had the guitar color I wanted. The employees were helpful and friendly, especially the lady in the front desk who gave me guidance based on what I was looking for. I like going to Guitar Center so I can play their guitars at a decent but respectable volume. Cut to 2 days ago my boys and I visited this place and we stopped outside the front of the store to see the Rock Walk of Fame (always fun!). We each picked up a guitar and plugged in. I chose a small but powerful Mesa Boogie amp and got ready to rock on the Brian May Red Special ($849). I was playing the opening riffs for Hammer to Fall and Tie Your Mother Down. I didn't think it was too loud at all but the young lady employee asked me (politely) to turn it down and was doing the same to everyone. I was a little put off by it so that took the wind out my sails and I just stopped. Ugh! I was having fun too! My 2 boys continued walking around and we ended up leaving shortly afterwards. read more

Guitar Center repair shop offers great customer service. I came in at one in the afternoon with an intermittent wiring issue on my acoustic / electric and Zach was there and took care of it in less than 15 minutes. The other repair shops make you wait a week before you can even call them to see if anything's been done on your instrument. Guitar Center charged the fair price of $45 which I was happy about. Their excellent Customer Service is better than other repair shops I've gone to for repairs. GC is my new go-to for service and repairs. read more

I signed my kids up for lessons here - drums and guitar - during an amazing sale where you get one lesson free when you buy 4. 4 half hour lessons came out to $97.50 the first month!!! Our ongoing rate is $130 a month, and my kids cannot get enough. Our son studies guitar with Kyle who is so patient and kind. Our daughter studies drums with Nach, who is wonderfully encouraging and kind! Both instructors cheer our kids on and celebrate their progress each week. Our kids love coming here. The experience was already wonderful, but this week, the team at Guitar Center did something that exceeded our wildest expectations - they bought an entirely new, smaller drum set JUST for my daughter. She's under 5, so she was having trouble fitting on the stool and reaching all of the full size drums. When she walked in to her lesson this week, she found a brand new drum set that was just her size waiting for her in her lesson room. She was OVERJOYED and so grateful! We were so touched at this incredibly kind gesture from the staff and her instructor. Our son's guitar instructor, Kyle, lets him pick a new guitar every single week that he would like to play. He walks our son down to the incredible sales floor (even if you're not a musician, it's worth coming here to see the sales floor - it's the stuff of rock and roll legend) to pick any guitar he would like to play (as long as it's under $1000!) :) Guitar Center has been so good to us that we bought instruments and gear from them for our kids for Christmas. The sales team is so knowledgeable and helpful, and they can guide you to whatever you need (and what you didn't even know you needed) within any budget. Pay attention when buying a pricey item. They use your credit card to buy a gift card first and then run the gift card for the actual purchase. That way if you decide to return it, you only get a store credit. Also no warranty from AMEX since you technically bought a gift card. I had to keep pushing him to please help me because my equipment was acting up do he told me he was going to get someone to help me and left me and my mom waiting for like 30 minutes till i ended up asking a worker who ended up being Maya. This is the flagship store, been coming here for more decades than I would like to admit. The staff here are really great, super friendly and helpful. Even the security guard is fun to talk to! This is part music store and part museum, with a courtyard reminiscent of the Chinese Theatre, paved with the handprints of GOATS. See how your mitts match up to the likes of Chuck Berry or Steve Vai! Once inside you can catch a glimpse of Clapton's "Blackie" Stratocaster or Eddie's Kramer from 5150. There's lots to see here while you shop. They have the standard selection of Guitar Center brands, if you can find it at another GC they likely have it here, this place is huge! I stood in one line with a clearly overwhelmed cashier behind the counter who could not even help the person in front of me and another girl at another counter was just camped out on her phone. I thought she wasn't helping people. She just wasn't paying attention. She clearly saw me several times and decided that her phone was more important. Just like the person at the front counter. And the person in the drum area. What a joke. If I can't even get someone to help me why shouldn't I just order stuff online from Amazon? Yeah I don't know why either. I purchased a vintage 70's Fender Jazz bass at GC San Marco location. I had some conflicting data on the age. They told me to go to the GC Hollywood flagship location and see the wizard himself, Allan Clarke. Wow. I've never met anyone so meticulous and profession in dating a guitar. He disassembled almost the whole guitar and showed me the evidence of its age. He slightly disagreed with the GC posted age of 1974, and opined a date of 1977. Pretty impressive. Extremely Disappointing Experience at Guitar Center Sunset Blvd Before posting any type of negative review, I always try to reach out to the business directly first. I emailed both the store manager and copied the CEO of Guitar Center two weeks ago about this experience and have received no response whatsoever. This lack of follow-up only reinforces my disappointment with this location. I've been a loyal Guitar Center customer for decades, shopping at locations across the US without issue - until my visit to the Sunset Boulevard store. I called ahead to purchase a microphone and was told to ask for a specific employee when I arrived. During our transaction, that employee was constantly on her phone, which was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. When I returned to the recording studio where I was recording, the owner and head engineer immediately noticed the microphone box had been opened. I called the store to ask why I was sold an opened product, and the employee claimed it was "the last one" and had been opened "to make sure the item was in there." This explanation makes absolutely no sense - why would a sealed manufacturer's box need to be opened to verify its contents? To make matters worse, I received the wrong model entirely. Perhaps if the sales associate had been paying attention to the customer instead of her phone, this mistake could have been avoided. I called back and requested to speak with the store manager, and the person who answered said that she was one of the managers, and when I related what happened, her response was simply "What do you want me to do?" - hardly the professional customer service I'd expect from a manager addressing a legitimate complaint. I suspect I was sold a returned or used item in repackaged packaging. I received the wrong product, dealt with distracted staff, and encountered dismissive management. This experience was so poor that I felt compelled to write my first negative review of Guitar Center after decades of being a satisfied customer. The Sunset Boulevard location needs serious improvement in customer service training and management oversight. I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. Somebody is no doubt going to reply to this message with a perfunctory apologies, and my preemptive question is, why didn't you reply to my initial email two weeks ago? read more

Have an old electric guitar (unplayed in 30 years) I wanted to get it back up and running/playable. Took it into repairs at Guitar Center and Nigel really hooked me up! He went above and beyond (there were a lot of little things that were funky due to 30 years!)
