Many of the holes have you hiking up and down hills that can seriously get pretty steep -- all enshrouded in the woodland of Hummel Park. I've had a few moments here when I felt like I was in one of J.R.R. Tolkien's imaginary worlds, as the surroundings are about as serene as they get in eastern Nebraska. I know Hummel Park has a sinister reputation, but it's undeserved. This place is seriously amazing and the disc golf course is rarely crowded. Plus you'll definitely get a nice workout in if you finish the entire course, Satanic penguins (or whatever) be damned.

There is a look out that you can see over into Omaha downtown and the Epply airfield. There is a trail that goes off the farthest lookout area - I didn't walk it, looks kinda tricky. The new carts were fast and "executive" like compared to other courses. No two holes were alike and several were challenging as far as length and elevation. The only negative I could think of was a dead tree in front of the green on #18. Otherwise, it exceeded expectations.

The park has a great playground with a picnic shelter that can be rented from the city for $25/hr. There are bleachers, a football field and walking lap. I recently rented the shelter for a birthday party and it was perfect! The kids enjoyed the playground. The shelter and porta potty (handicap accessible) were clean.

This park is full of a huge variety of mature trees, which makes for good birdwatching and bug watching, slime mold watching, etc. There is also a playground here, a pavilion, a dog park, a frisbee golf course, and a lagoon. I think the children's pool and tennis center are still here as well, on the south edge of the park. There is a big greenhouse here for growing plants for the city parks but unfortunately it was severely damaged during an intense hail storm this summer. The park is fairly clean though some trash was piled up next to the trash cans since obviously they had not been emptied. Other than that, I don't have any complaints. A lot of Canada geese are sometimes by the lagoon, so if you're afraid of them, don't go over there. No worries! They are little hissing dinosaurs.

Also, we stopped at Tasty Treet at the beginning of the trail for ice cream and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommend trying different sections of this trail or doing the entire trail! Also, many groups do "taco and margarita" rides starting in Council Bluffs, talk with your local bike shop to find out more. There is a small box at the trail asking for a $2.00 donation for adults to maintain the trail. Awesome tree coverage and nature for a fun day out in Iowa.
