As a young performer hailing from Canada, my professional career began with Professor Musial. At the age of 17, I was introduced to him as a performer. At the time, I was involved in writing, drumming and performing for theatrical productions whilst aspiring to become a pop star. David saw my potential to do more than that, and decided to take me through artist development. He began working through the basics of piano with me to develop my skills as a producer. Then, began working with me on the schematics/basics of synth modules and digital synth production. I was inspired. I started working in the studio for many hours a week, making plenty of mistakes, yet, professor Musial had the patience to guide me, and to harness my inspiration. Professor Musial also has so many interesting connections, providing me with other mentors for guitar, drums, stage coaches etc. I was able to bring all of my thoughts to life because of professor Musial through his dedicated love of synthestration. I was able to write and assist in producing four albums of music, which are currently available on iTunes. His recording facilities and connections, are unbelievable. Skyroom studios is a state of the art facility, which provides artists with all of tools needed to create on a "radio-ready level" and is an atmospheric home for all types of performers. It is beautifully decorated, with the some of the best recording gear in the music industry. Aside from the more material aspects, David, is truly one of the most incredibly dedicated and multifaceted instructors I've ever met. Never stopping until all of his clients have learned, created, and have brought their aspirations further than their original thoughts of fruition. As a 26 year old performer, I truly believe that none of my achievements would have been possible without this man. I have had the opportunity to perform in multiple Off-Broadway theaters, tour the nation entertaining with my own music including the Pentagon, perform at Carnegie Hall, in some of the fanciest nightclubs in Manhattan, produce/arrange/perform at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, etc. Needless to say, that this is all, in fact, because of Professor David Musial. Like most of you reading these guitar lesson reviews, I had an acoustic guitar in my apartment,…read morecollecting dust and figured I'd learn how to play SOME day. Once I decided to try a lesson, I didn't want to sign up for a class that treats adults like, "Why did you wait THIS long?" and "Enjoy your lessons to play 'Mary had a Little Lamb" and "Old McDonald." Something I read on the Williamsburg School of Music (WSM) webpage (and Timeout Magazine's recommendation) made me give WSM a shot. I've been extremely happy with the classes. Just to jump forward a bit, I'm eleven months invested and I'm learning to play "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "And She Was" ... am I great? Phfft, no! But, I'm learning these songs on my own and I'm getting there. I enrolled in the Beginning and Intermediate Guitar classes. I was fortunate to have Craig, Dodi, and Shane as my teachers. Each one was VERY different and the differences kinda freaked me out at first, but, I learned so much. One of the teachers ran the beginning class with a lot of structure. The song we'd learn for the day was printed out and the chord progressions made sense. You'd start with the C chord, then the G chord, then the A minor, then... and so on. The pace wasn't too fast; it made sense. Oh, I should mention here, the song selections were from Johnny Cash, the Rolling Stones, and some fun others (I don't want to give away everything); but, we avoided the dreaded "Mary had a Little Lamb" songs... which I REALLY appreciated. My next teacher (for Intermediate) kinda took what you knew and threw some challenges in there. No music was printed... what do you want to play? Well, let's start there... and let's try these barre chord things. My last teacher wasn't a huge fan of playing covers. He preferred to create, so, we tried all types of randomness. He also, which I really appreciated, allowed me to practice on an electric guitar and I just geeked out. He also played drums while I played... which was awesome! In summary, if anyone is still reading this review (I know it's long), for any adult learner that wants to learn how to play and wants to learn how to play fun songs, you should really give WSM a chance. Lastly, if I can give one piece of advice, if you're a student, you should practice... it really does help to move the class along.

I was getting married in a few months, and my now-wife, who is a former singer and musical theater performer, had the idea to put together a small concert of our friends the night before the wedding. We needed a place to practice, and spoke to Craig at the Williamsburg School of Music to see if he could help. He did a lot more than help. First off, we were able to arrange to use his space for rehearsals. The place was spotless, and all of the equipment was new and (as far as I could tell) very top notch. The soundproofing is solid and I couldn't hear a thing from other rooms (I know this because while the talented people practiced, I walked around and/or ordered pizza.) I would have been completely satisfied with all of the above, except for the fact that we didn't have a drummer for the performance itself. Craig actually offered to join us! He learned 9 songs over the course of a few weeks, and literally ended up performing at our wedding concert. He was the consummate professional and our friends loved working with him. I couldn't have had a better overall experience. It doesn't hurt that it's in a really fun neighborhood with lots of food/drink options. When the missus and I start having baby Yelpers, I will definitely send them to WSM for lessons.

They studied with two other teachers before Peter, one of whom was extremely laid back and never corrected technique. The other had taught for decades and was a little jaded, intent only on training a small army of concert pianists whom he expected to compete on the concert circuit. Peter strikes the perfect between those two extremes. Although he is very serious as an instructor (no back-slapping, no joke-telling), our children love him and are very responsive to his patient, precise teaching style. He assigns challenging (but not dishearteningly challenging) music that actually sounds good. As a result, our kids actually want to practice and learn new songs -- not because they want his praise or ours, and not because we crack a whip over their heads -- but because they genuinely enjoy making beautiful music. Peter is quite well decorated as a concert pianist (https://riversidemusicstudios.com/music-teacher-nyc/peter-fancovic/) and is probably ridiculously overqualified for the job in that respect. Sometimes that's inversely related to a teacher's patience for children. Not so in this case. We couldn't be happier with either Peter or RMS.

I am an adult piano student and have been taking lessons at Riverside Music Studios for 3 years…read morenow. It has been a very positive experience for me, and I can highly recommend RMS for any adult student. The studios seem to be very well run, in all this time there was not a single scheduling issue nor billing problem, in fact they are always very accommodating in terms of rescheduling lessons. The studio space itself is very pleasant, nicely decorated, and the pianos are all in good working order (they have baby grand pianos in every room). But most importantly, I think it is a privilege to be able to work with such wonderful teachers -- over the years I studied with Sergey Deytch and now with Dmitri, and I also had a few substitute lessons with other instructors, and they are all extremely good at what they do -- not just accomplished musicians but also excellent teachers. This obviously does not just happen, clearly the way they select and train their teachers plays a major role here and I do appreciate that. She taught my older daughter and have been teaching my younger daughter for the past 6+ years.
