On 8/14/26 Jovanna Zeller, CEO of the company came out for an estimate on trimming back a tree in my yard. She told me what all she could have her crew do and after about and hour and a half, I agreed to have the crew out to work a full day, for $5820.00. Jovanna said she would be back to direct the start of my work and the office would call with a schedule. The sevices was subsequently scheduled for 8/21/26. The crew arrived that morning precisely at 8 a.m. The crew worked until noon and informed me they were going to lunch, from which they returned at 1 p.m. During the course of the morning, I had asked the crew if they could cut down a small tree, approximately 6" in diameter, that was growing right next to a pet's grave in my back yard. The crew was shocked when I said "grave" but relaxed when I explained it was my beloved Rottweiler there, and to please take care not to disturb the grave. At this time, I also pointed out that there were two more graves beside a palm tree they were to trim. I said they were very obvious and were directly adjacent to the date palm on the outside of my pool cage. The crew assured me they would be careful. At 2 p.m. Dave, the crew chief, informed me that they were finished and he would show me around. It is to be noted that I have had several strokes, have a partially paralyzed leg, and walk with a cane. Dave started walking me around my house and they had indeed cleared around it. When we reached the back yard however, I asked what had happed to my Rottweiler's grave as all that was where the grave had been was dirt. Dave brushed it off as it just being under some dirt and I could just rake the dirt off. We continued around the house and I was distracted when we neared the area of the other graves and did not know their fate until later. I signed off on the work and the crew left. I did think I may have been overcharged because the crew was only at my home working for about 4 hours and 45 minutes. Due to a personal situation of extreme importance, I was busy and frequently away from home for the majority of the next week. During the week however, I received an email invoice for the service I received and was surprised to see a 203.00 surcharge on the bill if I chose to pay by debit card. I did call the office and Dorothy verified the charge. I forwarded information to Dorothy that a business may charge a customer a bank surcharge for paying by credit card but not a debit card. Dorothy called and said the company was indeed allowed to pass on the surcharge to debit cards because they were backed up by credit card companies. I told her she was wrong but I would then have to go to the bank to get a certified check as my online bank did not have checks. Before this could occur, I finally had a rainfree afternoon at home to slowly inspect all the work that was done. During my walk, I discovered the other two pet graves had been completely obliterated, a palm tree in my front yard had been knocked over and pushed out of the ground. My beautiful date palm had been trimmed not to the recommended imaginary line from 3 to 9 but so severly there was only a few fronds protruding from the top of the palm. There was also a great deal of debris left all over my yard making walking very difficult and my plans of future mowing put at risk as mowing would make projectiles of all the debris. I called Jovanna hoping to have her come out and see the mistakes that had been made and to hopefully lower the charge maybe 200.00 to help defray the cost of me hiring yet another company who could reconfigure the three pet graves and rake up the debris. I was never able to make my case with Jovanna as she went into a complete defensive mode and was very loud and disrespectful to me, causing me to simply hang up on her. Just a few minutes later, Jovanna appeared at my door, telling me she was going to have me arrested for theft of services and she was calling her crews to have them dump a truckload of logs and several truckloads of mulch in my driveway thereby trapping an elderly, handicapped stroke patient in the yard. I had never during all of this stated that I would not be paying for the service. I merely hoped as an owner and manager, she would acknowledge the mistakes and offer a token discount to defray the cost of repairs. Instead I was frightened the situation would escalate as Jovanna had brought a crew member with her and after her threats, I was uncertain of her intentions towards me. I ended up calling the Sheriff's Office and deputies arrived and trespassed Jovanna, and Miller Tree Care from my property. At the behest of the deputy, and the sudden decision by Jovanna that she could now accept my debit card payment without the surcharge, I paid the full charge of 5820.00 for slighty over a half day's work and multiple areas of damage. I would warn others to beware of this company and can certainly not recommend them at all. read more

Got an estimate for three trees that are on the ground and wanted them cut and moved to the front of the road for the country to pick up. They didn't have to haul it off, cut them down and I hope your sitting down for this, the quote was for 11,000 dollars. I guess they were hoping for a not so smart person or old person to take advantage of. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Juan and his crew did the best job of taking care of our yard. We had a tree that had half of it died, a lot of dead branches, branches that were hitting the garage, and a big pile of tree stuff the last owner left. They cleaned up everything. Very polite. Just a pleasure to have the work done. It took them all day but in the end our yard is great to look at. And no more branches to hit my head on while mowing. read more

They did a great job on a very large Magnolia tree and cleaned up afterwards. The truck did leave deep groves in the yard and they spent a minute trying to raise the grass back up. A few more minutes would've helped. The truck leaked oil on the yard in 2 big spots and reason for 4 stars. I emailed them about it and they thanked me for letting them know. I just hope the grass doesn't die as I'm not sure they would replace it. Time will tell read more

Tree Care by Robert Miller quoted $3,800 to remove two oak trees, grind stumps, and haul off all debris. And, based on my referral, my neighbor also received a quote for $2,200 to do her smaller job. One month later, the crew arrived, and upon their arrival, the "team lead" told me there was no way they could do my job for $3,800, informing me that the original estimator frequently misquotes jobs and that mine would now cost $7,000 and take 2-days to complete. I called the home office, talked to office manager, explained the situation, and was told the daughter of the owner would call me back. To this day, nobody ever called me back. And as for my neighbors job, they completed the work in under 2-hours. Classic "bait-and-switch". Pretty obvious they used me to get her job, make an usurious amount of money, and toss me aside. Subsequent to this, I found a great company to do my job for $2,850 and it is a one-day job. Robert Millers unethical business practices are shameful and they need to recognize one basic thing of business: Do something good and someone may say something good about your company, treat someone with disrespect, and that person will tell everyone about you. I will never work with this company ever again and will do all I can to share my experience with people, recommending the other company I did business with. read more

ONE STAR REVIEW I had five very large trees with big limbs that overhung my home that were going be a real problem if we were to have any storms in the near future. After hearing an ad on a local radio station I called Robert Miller Tree care. Their representative came a few days later and gave me a price which I felt was reasonable. The rep said that once I approved the estimate that their crew would be in touch to schedule the job. I approved the estimate but it took 30 days for them to set up a date to do the job. When the crew finally came to do the job and had unloaded their equipment, the foreman said "there is no way that I can do this job for the price that was agreed on" and he just told his men to reload and leave. So I called the office and asked them "what is going on"? The lady that runs the company said that they could not honor the price that they had given me. She suggested that their representative come back for another look and I could negotiate with him about possibly forfeiting his commission (?). After about a week the rep came back, looked at the job again and said that he would talk to the owner and then let me know something the next day. When I called them back they told me that the job would be $1500 higher than the original bid and it could possibly be another 30 days until they could schedule the job again. I told them I was very unhappy that they were not going to honor their reps price. The owner of the company actually told me that their rep had underbid some other jobs and that they were going to have to eat those jobs. She went on to tell me about the high cost of workmens' comp insurance, labor costs, fuel costs etc and I told her that I had also owned several businesses in my life, was very aware of the cost to operate a business, BUT always honored my prices as they were stated to my customers. (At that point I told her that just maybe she should revisit her relationship with her sales representative (estimator)). A few days later my wife happened to see one of Griffin's Tree Care trucks with their phone number on the highway. I called that evening and Joe Griffin himself came out the next day and gave me a price that was substantially lower than the first companies original price. During that conversation Mr Griffin noticed that the largest tree that I was concerned about had a couple of large branches which overhung my house and said they could do that one first and then come back to do the others (which did not present an immediate problem) later. His crew actually came two days later on a "Saturday", removed the worrisome limbs, cleaned up the debris that they had cut and said they would be back ASAP. They returned just 6 days later and removed the rest of the trees, cleaned up all of the brush, limbs, stumps etc. I would like to also add that before even starting they put down large mats on my lawn so that their machinery would not tear up the sod. Joe Griffin's crew did an excellent job of felling the trees without damaging my home, adjacent buildings, fences and shrubberies and honored his original price. I feel that speaks volumes about Joe Griffin, his company, equipment and employees. As for Robert Miller Tree Care service, after this experience, I WOULD NOT LET THEM TRIM A CRISTMAS TREE! We had some big trees removed and some smaller trees trimmed out so it took them all day and they were very efficient and nice and cleaned up the debris really well afterwards. The work done in the yard was okay, not as detail-oriented as I would have expected given the high quality they say they strive to provide. The customer service, however, was absolutely atrocious. Despite having proof that I had spoken with their staff (Dorothy) and left a message regarding the completion of the job and delay in payment (13 days; we had a family emergency forcing us to go out of state during the covid-19 pandemic the day before job was done, returned 5/11 and check sent in via mail a day later). They denied having any record of these conversations on their "EXCELLENT phone system" and "industry-specific software program," the owner, Mrs. J. Zellers was uninformed within her own business: stating I was never in contact, again, despite having proof of contact. She was immediately aggressive and rude; she accused me of absconding on payment and made a thinly veiled threat regarding a lawsuit. If there was a lower score to give than one, I would gladly give this company that score. I wanted them to come look at my Dad's oak tree and give me a rate that they would charge to do some light pruning. My Dad is 87 years old and lives alone with eldercare and me flying to Florida several times a year to help. These people visited him, when he was alone. He has about one third of an acre of property with two trees and mostly grass. I do most of the horticultural work, when I'm there. Hence, all they needed to do was look at the tree. They went all around the property wanting to prune the other tree, our bushes, put down mulch and finally prune the tree that I wanted from them in the first place. They left my Dad an estimated bill of $2,700 which is what they called a discount. Somehow, I don't think my Dad's age helped with this estimate. We never asked for anything but that they look at the one tree. When I confronted them with their greedy behaviors and asked for the price on the one oak tree, they wanted a whopping $500. That's the most expensive pruning that I've had quoted to me. I live in California, where prices are high. I can get three people to prune many of my trees for a whole day at a $700 rate. These people are clearly out to take your money. I hope they don't make a habit of preying on the elderly. read more

The work done by this company was NOT acceptable, and their treatment of us as customers was downright appalling. We are in our mid 60's, yet the young head of the crew, Jeff, who he said is married to the owner, freely called us "fucking liberals" because we were annoyed that they drove over a gopher tortoise den while haphazardly whizzing around in their Bobcat whic was not supposed to be on our prpperty at all. Jeff began the day by telling us rudely and repeatedly that their job estimator "lied" when he told us that they would not be using motorized equipment on our job. They then proceeded to drive their equipment every single place they did work, running tracks all over our lawn, spewing limerock off our driveway, and leaving high piles of machine-pushed debris even though their estimator had told us all logs and brush would be carried into the woods. In working on our large live oak, they were to cut only one large branch, and we carefully went over this with the estimator and Jeff, but they cut TWO large branches, and there's no fixing that once it's done. Once you sign a contract with Robert Miller Tree Care, the young punks move in and do whatever they want and act like the land is owned by THEM, not you. They don't know how to respect another human being, so how could they possibly know how to treat a customer? They don't have a clue, and they don't care. read more

Afterwards the business called me and left a message that I never listened to saying the date they were going to come out. I did not agree to a date to have it done since it was almost $1,000. They came out while I was at work and did the work regardless of my consent. When I called up asking for them to rectify the situation, they called the cops on me. Theft of services because I asked them to reduce the cost since I didn't have time to get other companies estimates. The job itself was done haphazardly. They a tree up front beautifully but in the back they didn't pull out the brush entirely but just trimmed it down. Make sure you are home to check their work. read more

I'd like to share a post about a special company I worked with in the area recently. I reached out to 'Tree Care by Robert Miller' to take care of a large tree limb, I had growing onto my roof prior to Ian hitting this week. The owners sent me their consultant out early today to see if there was anything they could do for me before the storm. Mitch Melvin was our sales consultant and real life hero. He let us know that the tree would in fact cause damage, but he didn't have the staff to support my job today. When he realized I was on my own he made it his business to help me and would not leave until he got it down. I am from NYC, that kindness is not common to me. Not only is the nasty tree limb off of my house, but just in time for the storm. The owner did me a huge favor getting me squeezed after hearing my desperation and Mitch SAVED the day. Thank you to Junior (who came to my door and introduced himself before they started...so polite) and his crew, who all did a fantastic job today! I had a gigantic tree removed. It was hanging over my home and garage and my electric lines ran through it. I needed it removed because it got so big the roots cracked my driveway. Having a friend back home who was a distributor for (tree) equipment sales, parts, etc. and held Arborist training classes, upon arrival for the job we immediately noticed that this trained Arborist team is properly equipped with Arborist Equipment & Gear. Very impressed with the owner and his crew, their work performance, their additional trimming (which we were not charged for) and their clean up. After previously experiencing a (bad bad choice) another local company that charges 1/2 of the 'going rate' we had hired last year, we were extremely pleased with this wonderful top notch crew. I have used this company twice to trim a Sabal Palm. Both times, I emphatically told them I only wanted the completely brown fronds trimmed. I told them I did NOT want green fronds trimmed. Every article you will read says to absolutely NOT cut any green fronds and to use a disinfected sharp pruning saw, NOT a chain saw. Both times, the same trimmer cut dozens of green fronds WITH a chain saw to the point the ground was littered with them. The foreman or whatever he was, claimed to be a certified arborist and argued with me about the green fronds. By that time, it was too late. They seem to just want to get the job over with ASAP. Last time I called them, I also had them trim three boxwood bushes in front of my screen room and a large overgrown bush in the back of my house. The "arborist" did the work himself. I specifically told him to take extreme care not to cut my screen room screens. He had all four bushes trimmed in about five minutes. After they were gone, I noticed three slits he cut in my screens!! The bush in the back looked so bad when he was done with it, I had to cut it back myself with a handsaw to just start it growing again from scratch. Needless to say, I won't be calling these "experts" ever again. read more

Beware what the contractor says, counts and promises compared to what you will really get. Now I do understand that the contractor under bid the job we hired them for, but should that really be my problem? Also had a problem of how the man writing the contract counts and the foreman on the job counts trees, the do not mesh. I strongly suggest marking every tree that you are discussing while doing your estimate. Also you will need to stay on top of what is being done EXACTLY to what you were promised. We were to have 24 trees cut down and the rest of the trees trimmed and any dead limbs cut. The main tree in my front yard was not done well at all, the limbs I wanted cur back not to be over hanging the drive way were not done and a lot of dead limbs left in the tree. Two days after the job was done I had dead limbs in my yard after a storm. Because of the difference between the count of trees and the work we were promised the foreman got snippy with us and said there was other work he wasn't going to do, which he did end up doing any way but at that point I had already been on the phone with the company owner and the man who had written the contract and I was just finished with trying to get done what we were told. I would not hire this company again and would suggest them to anyone else. read more
